Likely in the October's Mac event, if not then the Sprint (March) Mac event. Apple has done either one historically.
Not sure we'll go as long between M1 Pro/Max to M2 Pro/Max as we did M1 to M2. That would be interesting if that came to pass. Perhaps other Mac products will be midnight as well, like the Mac Pro?

As per Midnight, it will depend on how well it sells right now or maybe Apple makes it a MBA color exclusive. Who knows. As per the event, the two dates stated are usual dates for Mac releases.

Silver. I wanted SG when I bought my 2020 Air but they didn't have it in stock so I settled for Silver. I'd love Midnight but if it chips and shows marks it would kill me, so I'd go with silver for a third time to be safe.

Midnight if I didn’t care about how it would look down the line…

Always silver if durability is a concern

Can anyone show a photo of what they are talking about with Space gray "chipping" or "looking faded where I rest my hands"

Not space grey but the USB-C ports are already chipping in this midnight MBA during the hands on - You can see it in this screenshot from MKBHD’s video.

They all probably chip but it’s going to be quite visible on the darker colours ie midnight or space grey

Also, it’s gonna be a fingerprint magnet… I voted midnight but now I’m not sure…

Midnight looks terrible and will gunk up instantly. Not a fan of the blue tone at all because it doesn't look like an intentional royal dark blue, instead it looks like it can't decide if it's black or blue -- akin to cheap black dye. Given how thin and small the Air is I think Silver is the best way to go, very classic and timeless. I like Space Grey on my 16" because it makes your eye think the footprint is smaller.

That's the way I'll probably go with all future Apple devices: Spacey Grey on my 16" and iPhone, Silver for everything else (iPad, Apple Watch, Air, etc.)

Why would a color of the same material have less durability? Just wipe it off with a bit of water and a microfiber cloth. I have a spritz bottle meant for eyeglasses that I replaced with distilled water and I clean my Macs daily and they always look brand new.

I'm referring to the durability of the finish and how it will look

Darker colors like black/dark blue/etc all have a tendency to get slightly nicked here and there and the silver coming through really becomes obvious on the dark colors. It happens a lot on device edges and around ports where plugging in/out causes a touch of wear and tear

Just not something I love personally

Oh I see what you mean. Yeah that can be a problem if another color is coming through. That would drive me insane.
