White iPhone 4 Delays Due to Glass Painting Issues?

I really wanted a white iphone but I couldn't wait. I did find a cool case on ebay though its white on the back clear on the sides and has the apple logo on the back. They have a few colors other than white too but they are all an ugly neonish color. Heres a link to one on

I think that if they were to release it tomorrow it would make sense as I think that would make it so it will mirror the iPhone 4 black pre-order date to shipping date gap (I think) - if the shipping date is July 31st of course for the white.

Any one have anymore live pics of the white version apart from the wwdc ones?

In all honestly, I've never heard of another hardware manufacturer that adheres to such scrutiny, which is probably why lots of my previous smartphones were built with such variety in quality control.

It's a weird quality, though. They are willing to sacrifice certain things that sometimes defy reason, like 3G on the first iPhone.
 
Printing white on a translucent material, such as glass or poly, is an insanely hard thing to accomplish. I do not blame Apple for being picky on this.

Our company has to deal with this on a daily basis and it is a complete headache.

Plus if there was any uneven coating of the white or it wasn't as crisp as some would like the backlash would be as great or greater than the whole reception issue.

I just wish Apple wouldn't have said anything about a white iPhone 4 at this point....
 
Doesn't surprise me

It doesn't surprise me that they are having manufacturing problems. But I wouldn't bet it all on the screen printing. I live and work and China in factories, I like to call it baby sitting. I've seen my fair share of playing games.

Half the time the problems aren't even related to the products. Most factories never test anything, inks are out of date, applied in a hot room, don't dry evenly, employees stop and complain about something, nothing ships on time etc. The phones are probably sitting packaged ready to go but someone hasn't greased the right fingers yet. That's the way the world works.

Anywho, besides that I just checked with my Apple hook up in South China. 6200RMB for the Iphone 4, 915USD for one of these bad boys. For that price I better damn well have a white one.
 
Apple has to be this anal about things, if any "flaw" shows up in any of their products people flip out and cry about it. Every other company can get away with varying production quality because their designs are already not as precise in the first place.
 
i wonder if apple just made a clear iphone.. not white not black just see through iphone .. would it sell?? i think that would be cool since theres no paint it should be quicker to produce??:p

Thank you, just about exactly what I was about to say.

Just wait a few weeks if you want a white iPhone so badly. If this report is true and Apple had rushed it out and then a small percentage of people had off-white phones or yellow-tinted phones or pink-tinted phones there would be all manner of complaints.

It's just a shame there wasn't more real-world testing of the iPhone 4's antenna, but then when they tried that it got stolen... !!

I'm far from being an Apple fanboy lately but seriously, this is not worth getting too annoyed about in my opinion. Try waiting for a new Mac Pro, now that is a wait. ;)

That "anal" quality is why - antenna performance issues aside - Apple builds the finest consumer products in the world. Those tolerances and demands for perfection often result in cutting edge processes that can backfire. But I'll take that any day over a bland status quo that follows... rather than leads.

Its sad when even Apple's defenders repeat the meme about 'antenna problems'.
The antenna is great. The design trade-off that went for a superior external antenna with a well marked weak spot was just too much for the haters to understand.
Seriously, those folks don't need a 'walled garden', they need a padded playpen.
 
Is it bad that I'll be refreshing the Apple website every night around 3am? (I'm EST) because I'll be doing that from now on to make sure I get an order in before AT&T crashes again phaha.:rolleyes:
 
thats cool. by xmas 2010 they have figured out all the antenna, color, screen tint and whatnot issues and I can upgrade. iOS4 in upgraded apps will be very stable by then as well.:)

looking forward to a white iphone 4 for xmas.:)
 
Dear apple, just give me a pre-order date so I can give you my money please. Enough teasing, I love the white iPhone I've been holding out for it. Just please take my money already!!!! I'm sold...I love it...when can I buy it!!!!

who says? why does the fact that they are perfectionists on the color mean they don't expend the same, or more, energy on ALL aspects of the product?
 
forgive my ignorance, but can AT&T customers order phones from an Apple store as an upgrade? I have been waiting on the white one to come out and AT&T will not allow preorders at this time. Thanks
