That "anal" quality is why - antenna performance issues aside - Apple builds the finest consumer products in the world. Those tolerances and demands for perfection often result in cutting edge processes that can backfire. But I'll take that any day over a bland status quo that follows... rather than leads.

I'm in Canada and I've been hitting the refresh button on the iphone store page for months knowing that it won't be realistically released until sometime this week :eek:

it's not the white iphone. he swapped out the back on the black model with a white replacement back. looks great though

OIC. Fooled me. I'm crazy about having a White Front more than the back since it will be in a case covering the back. Have my iPhone 4 Zagg Invisible Shield. Have my iPhone 4 silicon case. Looking forward to getting a free better case with my White order. Sure hope we can place our orders sometime this week. The suspense is killing me.

Yes because it is impossible for a company to work on more than one problem at a time. Particularly when they have the audacity to let the paint applying company work out the problem and they shamefully sit there and be the judge of it. God help us!
 
Interesting... By the way, how does the glass stay where it is? I mean... There's glass, then there's paint on it, and the painted glass is glued to the inside of the iPhone or what? I know it slides on and off if we remove the two screws at the bottom, but then the glass must be glued onto some latches that allow for the sliding and the latching. Is glue really that reliable? Especially that it's stuck onto a painted surface?

Oh and about the topic yeah... The white iPhone looks amazing and I hope there won't be coloring issues with it!
 
....Apple is "anal" about everything they do...which why the antennagate thing was so implausable and WTF'd to them....do you really think they didn't thoroughly tested the antenna backwards and forwards, left and right hands, etc before sending it out? Of course they tested it....which is why SJ was a bit snippy to the pseudo-tech media for overblowing this issue....

....so do you really think they want to go thru this again with the white paint...a la hairline cube cracks? don't think so

I beleive the issue is that to get it as White white as apple wants, they need to apply more paint - which makes the paint thicker which leaves less room for the digitizer screen. If they use less paint, it won't be as opaque and true White. That's the issue. More paint= better white but the overall thickness may be out of spec. - causing issues for further assembly of components.

And who the hell could possibly vote this NEGATIVE? This is PERFECTIONISM, people...I am glad Apple does that instead of settling for inferior or "easier" solutions like the rest of the market...this is why they continue to push the outside of the IT envelope!

Painted glass?

I wonder why the designers decided to go with painted glass. Glass (even the hi-tech version) can be easily and homogeneously colored.

I hope I am overlooking some evident drawback linked to the dyed glass, otherwise I would be forced to admit that Apple's choice is not the best one! A paint is potentially even less scratch-resistant than glass...
