White or Black? Pros and Cons

My iPods smudge like nobody's business. And that polished metal is better for lifting prints than even the black plastic is...

But it's part of the ownership experience. Like owning a black car. Sure, they show dirt very easily (much, MUCH more easily than a white car), and smudges and fingerprints stick out like a sore thumb.

But when they're clean and all polished up, they're gorgeous.

Fingerprints take but a moment to clean from an iPhone, so I wouldn't worry so. And if you keep it in a case, it's not an issue, is it?

White will probably tend to look cleaner for longer given the same handling
as a black iPhone. Scratches will be seen more easily on the black, but I doubt that the black is more susceptible to scratching, if the material is the same.

You're fooling yourself if you believe otherwise. It will be more common than the Razr.

Razrs are 0-99 bucks.

iPhone is 199-499 bucks and you need a +30 plan added on.

I think it's not going to be as common. Maybe 2 years down the road it will. When the cost is down and people can renew their plans. By then I'll be on a new phone though :D

I am going to try and get a white one because every dook nozzle will have a black one.
Which will make the white ones cooler. They will be in shorter supply and the cool people that don't have to follow along with the majority will have them.. making everyone else envious.

White is definitely going to be the cool color to get.

You really think people will think your iPhone with a white back is cooler than an iPhone with a black back? Wow... I hope you realize that the iPhone will quickly become more commonplace than the Razr. It's like having a pink or black Razr rather than having a silver one. It's not cooler at all.

Black:
Pros: Higher vertical jump and look good wearing white.
Con... Oh... iPhones.

While black will feel hotter to the touch, it's a good conductor of heat. That means it is pulling the heat away from the inside faster than the white one. Although it'll have the oposite effect in the sun. It'll pull more heat in faster than the white one will.

It's science.

Please tell me you're joking.

Black attracts heat when in the sun because it is absorbing all wavelengths of light, whereas white reflects all wavelengths of light.

Black does not help radiate heat better. If you believe that you don't know anything about thermodynamics. The biggest things contributing to radiating heat is the material that you are trying to radiate the heat with. Copper is a much better heat conductor than Aluminum, which is why the best heatsinks are made out of copper. If color of the metal affected it's heat dispersion, you would see heatsinks painted that color all the time. More than likely the plastic the back of the new iPhone is made out of will probably insulate more than the aluminum of the original.

I agree, somewhat.

Its tough to compare a black car and a black iPhone. A vehicle is not nearly "handled" as much as a phone is. With that said, the black iPhone will definitely show everything more than the white. In the end, people who don't baby their electronics would probably fair better with the white version.

i think the white look retro. So if the white is feminine that pretty much means all of apples old products are feminine, lol. I am a guy and will get a white one.

if the whites had white on the screen [art id go for it. however it does not so ithink the black is more attractive.

i think white on the screen would look like crap, when it is off there will be a black box on the front of your phone outlined in white.

i am going to see what the people in line in front of me get. make a choice after seeing both first hand

NO NO NO!!!

There is so much wrong with what you are saying!!!!

Black adsorbs more electromagnetic radiation than white, heat from the inside of the phone is transferred via conduction to the case and the color of the case will not effect the transfer of heat through conduction!!

Yea... Alread discussed. :D And isn't heat from inside transfered by conduction because it's connected? Not certain... but I'm pretty certain.

If you don't want to be a dook nozzle, whatever that is, don't get an iPhone at all. After Friday the iPhone will be the new Razr.

The white one reminds me of something. Can't put my finger on it.

I don't get this.. the iPhone isn't cheap, it's just cheaper. It is affordable to the average person but is it reasonable? Only the people who're really into phones and some very rich kids will get it imo. It'll be more popular yes, but not the everyone phone.

The RAZR attained it's "iconic" status at the point it was still costing $250+ WITH an agreement. However, the RAZR was available form pretty much every provider and, as you said, didn't require a data plan.

Does not matter. Im getting a solid case anyways. It wont show the phone.

Given the popularity of opaque silicone covers for the 1st iPhone, I can't see why people are so hyped up on black vs. white for the 3G. Seems most people will put it in a case and rarely see the color. Same goes for all the fingerprint worrying.
