White or Black

I ordered a white one, mainly because I don't like the cliche of black tech devices. Given the chance I've always gone for the non-black devices. Just my personality, I don't wear black clothes, either.

I currently have a black iPad but also had a white iPhone 4 which I sold and here's the reason:

The white devices themselves are beautiful. There's no doubt about that, especially the iPhone. BUT here are the two issues I couldn't get over. The white bezel looks painted on and raised. By raised, I mean you can tell the bezel and glass is above the actual display. This was especially evident with brightness lowered. It just didn't feel right. I always felt like the bezel was supposed to be black and that the white was painted on. Number two- the white bezel is almost transluscent around the areas closest to the display. You can see a gray ghosting around the display perimeter. Also, the white is not a crisp pure white. Like someone already mentioned, if your pages are white, it simply accentuates that the white border is a bit off white- especially in incandescent lighting.

Anyway, there's my opinion- the black is a much more cohesive device and just feels right. The white always feels like a novelty of some sort and you will never forget that it is white- the bezel becomes a feature of attention and you cannot forget it subconsciously.

I got black. I've always had black and just think it looks better. I like my stuff understated. I like the simplicity and sleekness of black. I have looked at the white iPhones and kind of like them, but still prefer black.

I had the original iPad, got a white iPad 2, and ordered a black iPad 3. I really liked the white iPad 2 at first - loved the way it didn't show finger prints as easily, but it really did get distracting when watching video. I absolutely love my white iPhone, but I think I'll stick with black iPads from now on.

I ordered white just like my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. To me there is no difference in contrast and I don't find the white to be distracting. If anything the white makes the image on the screen stand out even more. Plus IMO the white is much more stylish as well as being different from the norm of mainly black electronic devices out there. It doesn't get any dirtier then the black and white is pure white unlike what some other people say. Lastly it matches with my white iPhone 4S.

I ordered white. I know it may not be as practical as black, but I've had a black iPad 1 and iPad 2 so I kind of want a change up. Also, for some reason every time I saw someone with a white iPad 2 I was really jealous of it...

You know, white isn't anymore unique when half of iPad buyers are choosing the same color. Just a thought.

You're just jealous. And how did you come up with half? I would venture to say its more close to a 70/30 split with the larger portion being the black one.

What do I have to be jealous of?

I'm just saying, there are only two color options...and neither are really "unique" colors in the first place. People think they are more individual with a white iPad, when in fact they're just the same as millions of others.

Neither is more unique than the other.

I went for the black because its my first pad and I wanted to see how the black worked out first. Someone wrote that televisions have black borders for a reason and that pretty much put it in concrete for me.

picked black because it seems like a solid black glass panel when its on standby

The white model sold out the first on the pre-order. Seems like white is very popular now. Probably due to all the promotional material featuring the white one.

Did they have the same quantity of black vs white available initially? That may be the reason the white sold out, perhaps fewer were manufactured.

That statement only makes the white model seem more prevalent as it's in higher demand. As I said, neither one is more unique than the other.

I went for white but wish I chose black. Might have to return a march 16th delivery. damn!

I have been changing my mind everyday. Originally wanted white with a green smart cover. But now I'm leaning towards black..

White without a doubt.

Apple devices are all about white. White iPads stand out from a myriad of Android/Crackberry/TouchPad tablets, that are all black. White iPads are perfectly distinctively Apple.

And all this talk about video somehow being inferior on white iPads is nonsense. I have watched probably over a hundred of movies on my white iPad 2, and trust me - it's just fine.
