Add me to the list that decided to go with the AppleCare+ after my launch day purchase due to the 'accidental' coverage. Also, I think that Apple will be less forgiving now with those that don't have it. It used to be that sometimes a nice genius would take care of you anyway even though it was for something that shouldn't have been covered. I don't think they're going to do that much anymore when there is now the option to purchase coverage for that. Plus wouldnt be fair to those that did pay for it.

so i got the applecare protection plan at target with the purchase of the new iPad and it costed $91.
I dropped and cracked the screen already but didn't put the protection screen on it yet.. what should i do.
i don't know if it's the ac+ one either... help please

See what type of coverage you have on your registered iPad

Then call apple or visit an apple store genius for repair or replacement if you have the proper coverage

well thanks,
it says iPad on the box of the ac protection plan.
do i just open it and register it and see what happens... i don't want to do that and in the end lose out on $100 dollars if they don't repair/replace it for a deductible.

If i use it professionally like my Mac Pro or MacAir...yes. Buy the care.
It has saved me plenty of grief when I burned out the motherboard on the Macpro and when the cat spilled water on my MacAir.

iPhone, iPad....no way. Toys.
Save your money.

No, applecare is a waste of money that takes advantage of paranoia.

My #1 rule for buying electronics is to NEVER buy extended warranties.

What a crock of dung - If it costs well over $900 to fix your laptop, let's see if you are smart enough to tell yourself it's paranoia then...

Extended warranties for automobiles are a no no because those aren't even serviced like they use to be - back 15 years ago, an extended warranty on a car really meant warranty. Nowadays, you are lucky to get an oil change done properly by the service dept.

$2499 laptop + tax, I did not hesitate to drop $249 on a 3 year AC plan.
$850+ ipad 3, dropping $99 + tax and getting 2 accidental claims (liquid and accidental) is better than paying $299 + tax on a new replacement two times a year.

also, if you have kids, this is a no brainer. Kids + liquid + iPad = !@#$

I've been debating it since I placed my order for my iPad3. I still have my original iPad in perfect working order, never dropped, still in flawless condition and its been around the world twice, never bothered with AC for it.

I'm still waiting for Apple to ship my iPad so I have some time to think about it some more.

The new iPad is the first Apple product Ive ever bought Applecare for. Thank god I did too. Wife dropped it and cracked the screen the very next day.

$50 later we were back in business.

I know, after every product launch theres the obligitory "is applecare worth it".

Unfortunately this will have to be it :)

I wasn't able to use my AMEX on this purchase so im not covered by my card after the original warranty runs out. Trying to decide if Applecare is actually worth it. Its probably cause i have a new toy in my hand that makes me want applecare so theres probably some bias in my justification.

So who objectively thinks that applecare for the new ipad is worth it?

I used my Amex for my iPad...can you elaborate on what kind of warranty/coverage it provides? (I'm using blue cashback)

And no I didn't get AppleCare. I know I probably should have but it's hard to justify the cost after spending so much upfront on this new toy  I just tell myself that I'm going to be super careful...

So the AppleCare and the (+) plus protection plan are the same?

I've been on the fence about buying AppleCare+. I'm always that OCD type when it comes too expensive electronics, but I would like to have the peace of mind of letting my friends or family use it without worrying. Most likely going to break down and buy it tomorrow after I get out of class.

So the AppleCare and the (+) plus protection plan are the same?
No, I believe you can only purchase AppleCare+ now...for the iPhone and iPad anyways. Regular AppleCare isn't even an option; AppleCare+ is the better way to go anyways since it covers accidental damage. I just left the + out in my post.

Regular applecare is an option according to the call I made to apple the other day, it was offered to me. I just think that apple is not advertising it and I don't know who wouldn't spend the extra money for + (accidental damage coverage)

When I called and asked for applecare, he asked "Do you want Applecare for $69 or Applecare+ for $99 which adds accidental damage coverage on top of applecare coverage? YMMV

No

Applcare for Ipad extends the warranty and support

Applecare+ extends warranty, support and adds accidental damage coverage. The $50 this person paid is the $49 deductible you have to pay when you damage your ipad and request a replacement when covered under applecare+

I plan to. i have this feeling that in about a year and a half, apple will see an uptick in "accidentally broken" ipads.

Maybe I missed it here but there is an important figure not mentioned in this thread:

Apple's out of waranty replacement of the ipad (short of it being in pieces, lost or stolen) is $299.

So anyone factoring in 899/799/699/599/499 in their calculations is way off.

I bought the AC+ for the extended customer service of all things not accidental. Perhaps its a loss, but as a poster above said...I am fearless about using this thing, something I was not with the ipad 1.

----------

Then he deserves it. Same goes with me. If I break my new toy in 2 months I deserve the loss of the toy. Simple as that.

I'll do it cause no one else will...That's a stupid statement!

How does my statement sound anything like yours? I said if I break it I deserve the consequences. Nothing to do with anyone else...

I bought AppleCare+... but not until 'after the fact.'

Call it what you will... I took it in and they told me $290 to replace my broken 3 for a new one... I was still within the 30 days so I called 1-800-MY-APPLE and added it to my iPad with no issues.

Don't mean to spark a debate, but I did it!

I just did it also!!! Called them up and within five minutes everything was done. Just waiting on my email confirmation tho. Now I need to return it the ac protection plan for iPad baq to target. Hopefully they'll exchange my broken iPad now
