How about if you drop it and it shatters in 2 months?

IPad and iPhone are pretty objects that love to be touched and don't like falling on the ground.

What are you going to do when your spouse, neighbor , friend, or child drops it.

We have had our share of glasses, plates, picture frames taking a tumble in our house.

Cheap insurance to save a friendship.

I did not.

The part that was scary to me was that AppleCare + only covered two accidental repairs. There are other plans available on the market that offer unlimited repairs for less up front money - www.ismartwarranty.com. That's what I'd go with, especially if breaking it is a real possibility.

iSmart doesn't appear to be all that superior. From what I can tell they limit repairs to the Glass, LCD, Battery, Back case, volume button, USB port and power ribbon - and there's a $75 charge per repair. So if the device fails in some other way in year two, you're out of luck. I'm always leery of 3rd party warranty sites that make it difficult to determine what it will actually cost to submit a device for repair.

iPad is meant to be touched, carried everywhere, passed to friends for "oh! Look at this!" moments. AppleCare + means I am very comfortable doing these things.

The full value of the insurance lies in the fact that I won't hesistate to carry it with me daily, a device I use every single day gives me a lot more for my money than an iPad that lives on my coffee table because I'm wary of breaking it.

I did not buy AppleCare on my iPad, nor on my previous 3 iPhones. The cost of the insurance v the cost of the product is just not justifiable. Without AppleCare on these last 4 purchases, I've saved more than it would cost to buy a new device. I don't baby my electronics either... they're meant to be carried around and used.

I do put AppleCare on my computers since I need them fully functional for three years, and I have needed repairs done in the past. The cost, especially with the student discount, is much more reasonable when compared to the cost of the machine.

Otterbox defender series = no apple care, owned defender on every iPad dropped plenty of times. Fully protected.

Don't let them use it. Make them buy their own or go to their local Apple store and check it out.

$100 initially then $50 for brand new iPad should anything happen(accidental and liquid)
Sounds good to me
And I'll be able to sell it for more in a year by just getting a new one and selling as new

Otherwise please look at the huge AppleCare+ thread that's already been in discussion for a few weeks now

lol wut? Lets say original iPad price $499 + Apple care $100 + cost of new one $150. You aren't going to make up the difference of $250 just because its "new"

Since my iPad won't be moved around much, I did not get the Apple Care.

I'm an optimist, I'd like to think I won't drop it. When my boy plays with it I make sure he is on a soft surface, usually on a bed.

Just hope it doesn't meet the ground after it was the bed:cool:

I got it because I don't want to use a case, want it naked and proud:D

I bought it. Normally only buy AppleCare for my MBP's, not iPhones or iPads, but iPad 3 has a huge battery pack and I'm finding I charge this iPad considerably more frequently so I'm covered if and when I need a replacement battery AND I know I could afford a replacement iPad if mine gets damaged. Highly unlikely since I had no problems/damage with iPad 1 or 2 but I spent just short of $900 for new iPad before Applecare and this way I have peace of mind.:)

I passed because after the original 1 year is up, I will most likely just buy the new version if anything happens to my 3.

Completely agree. The constant worry is eliminated, and frees the iPad to be taken and used everywhere.

I did

The one time I didn't buy Applecare for an iMac I paid for it and then some. So, yep, I got my Applecare.

Plus if I sell it, Apple are pretty good about refunding the balance if you're nice.

Bought it because of the accidental damage coverage. A colleague dropped his iPad 2 and shattered the screen - the repair at a non-Apple shop cost over $200. I'm more of a klutz than my friend so the money seems well-spent.

Or you could get a decent case which you prolly would want anyway and pocket the 100+ which makes way more sense to me.

Hmm...pretty sure most everyone has either handled or seen an iPad by now. I can't recall the last time someone was like "IS THAT AN IPAD!!!". They are pretty mainstream plus a 50.00 deductable seems like a waste.

Companies don't sell warranty's unless it is a good deal for them. Since it is a good deal for them, that means it is a bad deal for me.

In case of consumer electronics, you are better off putting $100 in a bank somewhere, and in the off chance you need it, you pull it out. Be your own insurance company.

That's just my opinion as someone who can afford to replace a device, or could live without it. I can't afford to pay $100,000 to someone if I crash into their car and kill someone; hence I have insurance to cover me. I can afford $800 at the worst case.

I have to agree with this guy. If Applecare was used by that many people to recover damaged devices, they'd eventually raise the price or stop offering it. The fact that they don't says they're making a killing off of it.

Yes, I'm sure everyone knows about iPad, you'd be surprised though at the number of average people who haven't had the chance to actually sit down & really play with one, particularly the newest model.

You don't want AppleCare, you don't have to buy it, choice is wonderful isn't it?

Passed on Applecare. If it blows up after the one year warranty, I'll buy another one.

Agreed. I'll probably get AC whenever I get the new rMBP since that will cost a pretty penny. If something goes ill with the iPad after a year, I'll deal with it then. Besides, my credit card covers me so me not worried.
