I use portrait as well. It's the way I've used it for 2 years, no need to change now.

Yes. I agree with you. There was an extensive thread (over 5 pages) about this the other day but it has no doubt been buried beyond belief by now.

If theres a way to disable it by jailbreaking then ill jailbreak
Yup, there is. This, VoIP, and WinterBoard (now that the phone actually has enough power - CPU+RAM - to run it) are the reasons I plan to jailbreak the instant it's available for the 3GS.

I use portrait myself. But I think it's just a matter of what you're used to - this is due to the neural programming which has taken place via repetition of movement.

Theoretically, portrait will be faster, as mentioned you don't have to move as great a distance.. but you also have to consider that having sausage fingers will inevitably produce a greater number of mistakes in portrait. Perhaps we should be comparing finger size!

landscape wherever i can. i have skinny fingers but prefer the size.
plus i like longer lines as opposed to more vertical space.

Wirelessly posted (iPod touch 32GB: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

I hate the landscape keyboard 'cos it hides nearly all the screen.

Portrait for life.

I think it is just because I am used to it. I also use only 1 thumb , and I'm pretty damn fast. People are always impressed. ha

+1

I type faster with one thumb walking down the street than I do with two in landscape even sitting still. I can understand the appeal of landscape in theory, but I hardly use it.

They incorporated the landscape feature too late as I've gotten used to portrait mode. I do switch over from time to time though.

Same here! :)

The one thing I don't like as much about landscape is that it shows a much smaller portion of the screen where you're typing.

Other than that it's great and I'm glad Apple finally included it.

I really like the landscape keyboard, it's great for laying in bed and typing with two hands. In fact, I kinda wish you could rotate everything into landscape. For instance, 3g coverage is poor at this side of the house, so I went to switch to wif. No problem, but the home screen and settings menu is only portrait. Would be great to have the option for either way.

I downloaded BiteSMS a while ago for the quickreply, and used landscape a few times for the novelty, but I'd always hated the landscape keyboard in Safari.

Now I LOVE the landscape keyboard for texting. I can type very, very fast on both keyboards using 2 thumbs (took me about 5 months to be able to use 2 thumbs, but got there in the end). And I do mean fast, friends remark on it.

I'm hating the new "feature" in 3.0 where if you type a long text the text box grows until it fills the whole screen and you can't see the previous texts  Well thought through Apple.
