Upgrading from my 13 Pro Max allowed me the following benefits:
  • 12gb RAM (fantastic to not run out of memory and have to reload apps, but also as a buffer for long term performance so future iOS updates don’t cause planned obsolescence)
I had the 16 Pro last year, now have the 17 Pro and anyone would be able to tell the difference the extra RAM makes in not having to reload apps. It feels more like using a Mac: apps are intact when you switch back to them.

The 16 Pro performed like this before Apple released its first AI stuff. But running these things locally takes a lot of RAM. So I got the 17 Pro. I realize Apple Intelligence may not amount to much, but I wanted to give it a try (next year hopefully they'll be ready) with the most capable device.

I got the orange, which is completely out of character for me (I'd have ordered black if it were an option) and I don't mind carrying one kinda crazy looking thing. I'd never wear bright colors in clothing; this child's toy color device can be my flair.

17PM in Orange here - switched from 15 pro and really enjoying going back to bigger screen. Thankfully no wifi issues so far. I also bought an orange Beats case and returned it - looked like a traffic cone to me. Ended up with a Zagg kickstand case.

The 17 Pro is working for me. Coming from a 14PM the smaller screen is a step back but the lighter weight and size works better. Can't have everything;) Seems a much smoother experience. Liking the TechWoven case which should give enough protection. Seriously considered the Air but cameras were the decider -maybe the next gen Air when it has a 2nd camera and potentially Carbon Lithium battery.

I was perfectly happy with my black Air, until I discovered a tiny scratch on the back, exactly on the edge on the opposite side of the cam. Don’t know where it came from, handled that phone like an egg. Never experienced this with my Pros, which I used without a case also.
Long story short - returned it, but will get a new one. Think of getting the white one instead, cause I can’t stand scratches as well as cases.
Anyone else discovered the black Airs backside to be this vulnerable?!

Have had a black Air for a few days and like you I’m not using a case. I’m very careful with my phones but am definitely keeping an eye on the back after people have been reporting easy damage. The state of the phones in stores hasn’t filled me with confidence either.

I wish apple went with the glass backs from the 15/16 pros which were brilliant. My 15 pro has been immaculate for 2 years and never worried about it but the air does feel more fragile. Whether that reflects reality or is just in my head remains to be seen, but with apple waxing lyrical about how tough these phones are I’m so far not convinced.

Coming from a 14 Pro Max i can say that i am very happy with my upgrade. Screen brighter, phone is lighter, screen is bigger, thought my 14 Pro Max was plenty fast, but this one is snappy, USB-C finally!!

Better cameras, longer battery life, camera button, action button, new selfie camera, faster charging, Apple Intelligence, vapour chamber, Wifi 7, Bluetooth 6 and much more. Im good for next 3 years.

See you guys on iPhone 20 launch or iPhone fold.

Love the camera on my 17PM. Hard to see any real leaps in performance from my 16PM. I got the silver but case it anyway. Afraid I would have regretted a color. Would have picked space black.

Very happy with the iPhone 17 Pro. I spent a year being not happy with the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iOS 18, after being quite happy with the 15 Pro Max and iOS 17. For a while I was even looking at Swappa, thinking about upgrading backwards by buying another iPhone 15 that was still on iOS 17.

I "buy" (rent?) iPhones with the iPhone Upgrade Program but was going to skip this year. I'm not sure why I decided to go ahead, but it's been a good decision. I had a lot of reservations about aluminum (takes me back to the 6...) and iOS 26.

In spite of the major design and materials changes, the iPhone 17 Pro feels like a mature, balanced phone. I could take or leave iOS 26 but considering we aren't even at the .1 release I think that's pretty good; many years have not been like that.

One thing I'm really liking is going back to a non-Pro Max phone this year for the first time in five or six years. I moved to PM phones because of the bigger battery and better cameras. This year, the regular Pro has the same runtime as last year's Pro Max, which was fine for me, and the cameras are the same in both the Pro and Pro Max. I don't miss the bigger display and I do like downsizing the dimensions of the phone.

Overall, quite happy with the 17 Pro.

This is EXACTLY how I have been with my 15 Pro Max which is why I decided on getting my Air. In the week I have been using my new Air, I have not had ANY regret in getting my new iPhone. In fact, I have a deeper appreciation with every passing day as I am loving just how strong this iPhone is and how thin and light it is. I love the titanium frame this iPhone has and as far as I am concerned, still look at this iPhone as a premium iPhone which works perfectly for my use. :)
Not disagreeing at all, but narrating a different choice...I so badly wanted to buy an Air and almost did, but I took a look back at the photos over the last several years and a huge percentage of them were taken with the slightly-too-long 5x. Even thinking of the iPhone cameras as a P&S, I thought it was very likely that I would miss having an optical telephoto, and the tele camera/lens in the 17 Pro is more useful than the 16 Pro. I had ordered an Air but decided to cancel and order a 17 Pro.

Gotta say that I still have some Air-lust. It's a beautiful phone in a whole lot of ways - size, design, materials, ergonomics. For myself personally speaking, I just couldn't give up an optical tele.

I'm still be happy with my iPhone 11, about two years old, after update to iOS 18 the battery last longer. More than all day battery life. 🤣

I completely understand where you are coming from. I thought about the camera system as well but realized if I really wanted to take serious pictures, I have my Nikon D850 and various lenses to use for that task. I primarily use my iPhones for point and shoot photography, not serious photography so getting the new Air, for me, was the perfect option.

I realize not everyone is in the same position as I am regarding camera setup so getting an iPhone Air might not be a good option for them. :apple:

I upgrade every year, so I went to a Cosmic Orange 17 Pro Max from my Space Black 16 Pro Max.

I was incredibly disappointed when I realized there was no black option this year, but that will most certainly come back next year.

Regardless, I still fell in love with the Cosmic Orange. Other than that, the iPhone has felt like an actual upgrade for the first time in quite a while. The last time I really felt the upgrade was my 12 Pro -> 13 Pro Max - but even then, it was just size, battery, and display (ProMotion and smaller notch). However, this year, the 17 Pro Max just feels new.

It checked off a lot of boxes for me with new features this year and I have genuinely been enjoying this iPhone so far!

Probably millions of users not posting on these forums.

(I’m still waiting on mine to be shipped, but I believe I’ll be happy with my Pro Max)

Enjoying my Air 512 Gold, coming from 15PM.

Don't know if I'll ever miss the better camera(s), but until now, I couldn't be happier.

Using it with AC+ as case, it's at least as stunning as the X ages ago.

I am very, very happy with my 17 pro 🧡. Was a bit fiddly to sync my watch 8, but in the end the phone accepted the old newcomer. Upgraded from a 12 pro, so the learning curve was HUGE! and I don’t regret it a single second!

I used the phone without a case for a couple of days, but was handling it like a raw egg, so went hunting for a usable cover. Apple original covers for the pro in orange/siena are not available in my country at the moment. Delivery times vary between 2 to 4 weeks. So I got myself the clear case from Native Union. Satisfied so far, although the bulky protection around the camera keeps it from charging in my old Photoframe magsafe charger. But that one dates back to the iPhone X so it’s due to be replaced anyways.

What really fascinates me is the camera!!! Took some pitures of the northern nightsky and am stunned! The camerasidebutton makes it possible to start the camera while lying facedown. (yes, I know you can take pictures remotely with the watch, but that’s not the same. Will give it another try soon) I really am in awe! 😲
