Apple has provided those who don't like the remote an option though. Not like Apple to provide such things, but you can pair or match any remote you prefer to an Apple TV, and many modern universal remotes have codes for the ATV (the ATV hardware has an IR sensor) so everyone should have their needs met.
I got a remote included with my Vizio TV. Same with my Samsung TVs. Does anyone really care that much over an included remote that's easily replaceable if it doesn't serve one's needs or am I missing something here? No one forces you to use the remote that comes with an Apple TV. Don't like it? Find one you do and pair it up!
Seems to be a very simple thing, really. I tended to use whatever app I used on my Galaxy S5 to control my entire entertainment center including the Apple TV for a while. I've also paired up Spectrum remotes, Time warner remotes, and some Wally World ones. All work fine.
