I just want there to be hope that if I exchange mine the next one won't have it. I'm going to exchange mine anyway since 16GB isn't enough for me (want 64GB, which will make it even more of an expensive premium toy). But if all have light leakage I might just return it for a refund and wait and see if later batches have better QC or if I should just go with another tablet.

Mine didn't have any light leakage. It was perfect in that respect. But it had the murky left side with yellow and the perfect right side.

I'd say, it's one or the other and a whole heap of good ones.

My 128 GB space gray Verizon model does not have any dead pixels or bending issues as others have described. It does have some back light bleeding, but this doesn't bother me nearly as much as the other issues. Hopefully this gives others some hope that not all models are having problems.

Mine seems ok

I guess if it doesn't jump right out at you, your good

Of course I don't tend to go over mine with a magnifying glass.

Just tested for color tint and dead pixel as well as light bleed. At full brightness there's light bleed, naturally, that would be used outdoors and you'd NEVER notice it. At any reasonable light level that doesn't burn your retinas indoors, the blacks are great. No banding, that I can see, not one dead pixel on the bwrgb test...no cosmetic defects.

Perfectly fine to me

Any tablet set to outdoor mode full brightness is going to show some bleed, it's not abnormal and unrealistic to expect otherwise IMO. If you're watching a movie at full brightness in a dim room, you'd notice it, you'd also be crazy to do that.

White is uniform. Multitouch is perfect.

Not a single flaw. First ipad I've bought which didn't need an exchange. And I'm also on my fourth iPhone 5.

The only issue I now have is, would I rather have bought the retina mini......

...That's your CMOS on your camera at work. It's not black when the display is turned on. It's 'lit' by a backlight. Something that'll confuse a CMOS sensor and is completely irrelevant to what you'll 'see' in real world usage...

I guessed the electronics had to be seeing something my eye could not perceive. Thanks for the explanation, it was bugging me.

I am definitely pleased with this screen, it's a keeper to my eyes, even if my phone's camera sees it differently.

I've got one that's perfectly fine! Definitely worried I wouldn't since I went through 4 different units when I first got the iPad 3...

Mine looks pretty much perfect no issues, although it didn't come with a sim tool literally just a plain packet no cut outs. Bought it sealed from an Apple store aswell. Strange as hell!

GEEZE, anal much? No offense, but really?
Seem completely reasonable to me - I did exactly the the same thing. The iPad is all about the screen and so it has got to be perfect. I am less bothered about the back but I still checked it.

Mine's all good, which is a relief after reading some of the horror stories here.

Mine is perfect as well - I do want to get the mini retina instead because I prefer the size but those that like this bigger size, I can't see why there would be any complaints. My partner has the 3rd generation and the air is so much nicer to use.

I got a perfect 16gb wifi today. No light leakage, no heat, not pink or yellow tinge. All things i had with iPad 3 and 4's. Might buy a lottery ticket lol :)

No problems here. I'm really loving this, it is fantastic.

Me too. I was a little nervous reading some of the issues here but that just goes to show ya that the percentage of troubled units is dwarfed by the percentage of good ones.

The battery life so far has been just stupid good. I mean, mine isn't even using the battery.....I think it's using the heat from my breath to run itself. :D

Did a trade in at Best Buy today. Received $291.00 for my old iPhone 4 and my beat-up iPad 2. Bought a 32GB white WiFi only model. It's perfect in every way...what a speed difference! Love it:)

It seems that the more negative reviews than positive.
In fear forward to my Air.

That always happens on forums though. You tend to get a large number of problem posts because those are the posts that get attention. I'm sure the users are having trouble, not doubting that. But, the forums get boring quickly if every thread just keeps saying how wonderful their new iPad is.

I suspect of the millions and millions of iPad airs sold are just fine and the percentage of truly bad ones is small. If that weren't true and there really was some major epidemic of a problem, it'd be headline news everywhere.

How do I check for all these? Just got the Air 2 days ago.

Who got a perfectly fine iPad Air?

Dead pixel samples can be grabbed here

http://www.theipadguide.com/content/ipad-dead-pixel-test-how/7171269

There are instructions but basically:
Download the colored squares and then view them full screen in photos. You can use the black one to test for light bleed (be realistic, don't set it to 100% brightness in a black bathroom) and the while one to test for tint.

Hope that helps
