I got mine yesterday, as soon as I turned it on, I noticed a grey shadow on left side, from top to bottom, as start screen is bright pure white, I am not sure if this is normal background pic, I didn't see any issues after I started using it. but later I found a small dent at back, this I cannot live with, I exchanged one today, not opened yet, hope this one is perfect. No hassel at apple store, they didn't even look at returned one.

FedEx just delivered my iPad Air wifi 128GB about 45 minutes ago. I was excited but also just a bit apprehensive as I started it up, but I am happy and apparently fortunate to report no issues at all with my iPad. Cosmetically there were no faults, and the screen is uniform, no discolorations or gradients to report.

How about light leakage?

Oh I see what you mean. I have not checked it under those particular circumstances. Allow me some time to re-create this test and I will post my findings.

Thanks I would appreciate it. My screen looks amazing otherwise (great upgrade from iPad 1 for sure). It's just when the corners are dark that the light bleeding is noticeable. It's when watching movies I see them, something I will be doing a lot.

Okay I lied. It was only when I downloaded a black background and locked myself in the closet that I realized I have light bleeding. Curiously, in the same area as yours. Otherwise the screen is really nice, so I can live with the bleeding.

I was the same way, as I was opening it, all I could think of was about what I've been reading here.

My iPad 2 had a bit of light bleed and I watched a lot of movies on it. Not sure how bad in relation to yours, but when I first had it, I noticed it, but after a month or so, I totally forgot about it and only in the last few days did I remember it even had light bleed (2 and a half years later). I can honestly say it's been a non issue. I can even post a photo when I get home tonight for a comparison if you want (and I remember!).

Unless you watch movies in a totally dark environment I reckon you might be okay. And usually in a totally dark space you wouldn't have the brightness at full.

Anyway, for what it's worth, that's been my situation with light bleed on an ipad. A bit of light bleed is a million times better than an uneven tinted screen in my opinion.

Unfortunately, that's what I do. Watch movies in dark environments with 50 to 100% brightness, depending on the movie. But I do agree, it's not as bad as the other issue some people are having with theirs as those you mentioned. I'd take this issue over those any day. Just wish there was no light bleeding on my new 500 dollar plus premium toy that I plan to use a lot for the next 2-3 years.. I just want there to be hope that if I exchange mine the next one won't have it. I'm going to exchange mine anyway since 16GB isn't enough for me (want 64GB, which will make it even more of an expensive premium toy). But if all have light leakage I might just return it for a refund and wait and see if later batches have better QC or if I should just go with another tablet.

Taking a picture of my iPad in the dark, with a black screen, actually revealed to me that, looking closely at the picture, I DO have discoloration, slight pink on one side and slight green on the other.

The strange thing is, looking at it with a white screen, I don't see it. And even looking at it with the naked eye on a black screen, I couldn't see it. But when I took a picture of it in the dark, I could clearly see pink and green sides in the picture and in the screen of my iPhone.

This is very strange to me, but considering that it is (inexplicably) not apparent to me by naked eye, I am going to keep it.

I still don't get why I can only see it in a picture, that's just strange.

This happened to me as well. Can it be some sort of effect caused by the camera?

Went from a ipad 3 to a 128gb air, it has exceeded every expectation. Can't put it down, so far my favorite gadget purchase ever and I had colecovision.

Colecovision! Lady Bug!!!

Oh man, why don't some of those old games get ported to the ipad. Lady Bug would be great... or am I guessing remember my teenage years a bit too fondly???

Perfect !

Mine was good. Did inspection no dents or marks. looked at screen under all the solid colors no dead pixels. Minor light bleed bottom left but i don't care, cant notice it much.

I finally got home and gave it a full inspection under my bright lamps looking for damage or dings. I ran a series of color pattern tests checking for lint, abnormal light bleed, dead pixels, or banding along the left side some folks have said they had. It checked out perfectly fine. Same for the gyroscope.

I can finally enjoy it in peace really happy w/ my purchase. Good luck guys!!

GEEZE, anal much? No offense, but really?

I'm on my 4th Air and this one has 2 dead pixels. Every one I've tried had this issue. Good thing with this one is that 1 is in the top left corner and the other is way off to the right side, so I will not see them in 99.9% of my usage or when the screen is not solid white. I bought from Best Buy and don't want to be banned from returning anything (I asked and that does happen after a certain number of exchanges) so I will regrettably keep this one. I'll just enjoy it and if it still bothers me down the road I'll sell it and re-buy until I get a perfect one. Never had this bad of a pixel problem before. I HATE dead pixels, I hate them.

Mines my first and it's perfect, sublime even. If I was to criticise anything it would be that the screen does feel slightly plasticky, but the light weight more than makes up for that, and it looks amazing.

When iOS gets more multi-tasking the one gig of RAM will probably let it down somewhat, but so glad not to have waited for next years.

I've seen this mentioned a couple of times. 'Plasticky?' I don't get what that means. I've owned every iPad so far and the Air, to me, feels as durable and sturdy as ANY previously owned models....including the '4's' that we use for our business and the 'mini'. How do you mean 'plasticky'? I'm trying to be serious, because MAN, I can't believe how well built, fast and bright this thing is. Extremely happy with our purchase of the Air.

LoL...I was a Zaxxon fan...or was it Xaxxon? My younger brother got the Coleco, we couldn't adford the Atari 2600 when I was 'of age' to game;)
Had a buddy with it though...Donkey Kong, wow....doesn't seem that long ago! I'm with you on the Air...it would be cool in Nintendo would quit with the hardware and start licensing their software to iOS. Or maybe both. Course that most certainly would spell the demise of their handheld units, if not the Wii

Will keep my 4, unless air speeds up!

Huh? That isn't one I've heard yet...my Air is definitely and noticeably faster than my '4'. As all professionally written reviews have mentioned...Apple didn't embellish the performance of this bad boy. It's hands down the fastest tablet I've ever had the chance to use. Feels like a real computer. In tablet form

Just curious....and not just you rojct20....but why the responses from folks WITH issues and returns? The thread is titled 'who got a perfectly fine air?' Aren't there plenty of threads for those of you with weird tints, light bleeds and other complaints to participate in? Funny, reading comprehension these days....or the absolute weird need to respond to a thread with the exact opposite of what the OP's question is. Why?

My iPad Air is flawless, screen itself couldn't be better. My only complaint is the new glass front, feels so cheap coming from an iPad 3. Seriously feels like a piece of plastic.

Again...I don't understand this 'complaint'. It's definitely lighter than the 3/4 but it's incredibly sturdy and the panel feels NO different to me in comparison to the original, 2 and a few 4s we have (for our business). I'm profoundly happy with the 'feel'. To me, it's amazing as I was infatuated with the design and form factor of the mini. We've had one since launch, black...and still perfectly functional without any breaks, dings, scratches or other issues. We only use a Smart Cover on it and it goes everywhere with us (& is often used by our 8 year old son). Those concerned about the build quality shouldn't be. It's extremely solid. Especially for what they were able to accomplish with the power, speed, display, smaller and faster charging battery yet 'gaining' battery life! That's an awesome feat. Anyone that hasn't read Anand's review ought to. It's pretty amazing what Apple has done this time around...boy only with the Air, but the 5s and upcoming mini as well

@OP

Wish I could say I did. But mine has light bleeding on two corners very noticeable when watching movies. Could all of you with perfect iPads post a picture of your iPad screen taken in a dark room with black color on the entire screen (just so the camera picks it up) showing there's no light bleeding? I'd appreciate it!

LoL. Are you serious? That's funny.

That's your CMOS on your camera at work. It's not black when the display is turned on. It's 'lit' by a backlight. Something that'll confuse a CMOS sensor and is completely irrelevant to what you'll 'see' in real world usage.

Don't. Go. Looking if you're HAPPY! There are bound to be a couple bad 'Apples'. Regardless of how nice it is to have the perfect one, which I'm sure is close to 99%+ with their quality control issues last year on the iPhone 5---there's still bound to be 1 or 2 bad samples for every 1,000, 10,000 or per million. The COOLEST thing is you bought an Apple. They'll make it Right for you, no questions asked. And for a C note, two year coverage on your iPad, no matter what you do to it. Incredible post purchase support

IMHO, easily the best piece of mobile computing technology in history. It's a prize and I, for one, am glad to be enjoying this time and age of technology. I'm envious of those on the board in their teens, 20s and 30s. You'll be living in an interesting world over the next century. Look at what we've done in a hundred years, and imagine the next hundred (if we don't screw things up too bad first;))
