Nada, so far.

I do baby it and clean it practically everyday. Over time, I'll probably be less cautious and probably even take it off the bumper.

I don't mind light, light blemishes if seen in certain light. What I mind the most is cracks and it shattering on me. Nothing stays pristine forever in this life. My cousin has a 3G (naked) and you could see shattered lines on the bottom left. You could see the liquid crystals shift if you hold it a certain way.

How on earth does anyone already have scratches on the front of their iPhone 4? Isn't the screen supposed to be even stronger than the older iPhones?

I have owned a 3GS for a year now, and have never put a single screen protector on the phone. Anytime it's being used it's bare naked, and I don't have a single scratch on the screen.

Just remember that aesthetic damage is not the same thing as actual material durability.

So, yeah, the iPhone 4 is more durable than the 3GS by design, but it can still be scratched, knocked and muffed up.

I'm typing this on my iPhone at the beach and still no scratches!

Tho my sister's seems to have a lemon battery....

I was just at the apple store and was surprised that most of the demo phones were in good condition. One of them did however have quite a few scratches on the front.

I have a deep scratch on the front of mine, really bad and shows up at most angles. If I run my fingernail along the glass it will catch in the ridge of the scratch.

I was careful about handling and using the phone so I have no idea how it got marked so easily.

I'm tempted to take it into an Apple Store but i'm on holiday in California and it is a UK sim-free model.

So the iPhone 4 is more durable according to you, but people seem to be getting scratched screens left right?

I don't know how, the front screen is pretty damn durable, it's the back glass thats scratching like crazy for everyone.

i figured leaving the original protectors on and not taking the phone outside the house till my IS came was good enough.. :)

My buddy did the same thing... for some reason that drives me nuts. The first thing I did when I opened up my box was tear off the plastic sheets and threw the phone in my pocket (where it belongs).

You are wrong my friend. I dropped my 3G (without a case) so many damn times and the thing just kept on ticking. Because the edge of the glass is exposed on the iPhone 4, there's no chance it's more durable.

I treat my iPhone 4 like my Macbook Pro: Whatever you do, don't drop it!

Now, as far as craftsmanship goes... iPhone 4 hands down smokes it's predecessors; just as the Macbook Pro vs. Macbook (the plastic one).

Take it to Apple, they might replace it just by default, if it was scratched out of the box. And if it's 10% on $200, then go for it, maybe not if it's on $600.

i actually was deciding if i should do that or not. two things stopped me, i've had the phone since the 23rd so i figured they may say it was my fault and two, i put the wrapsol (wet install) on the front and the back. i figured it would be a hassle to contact them to send me out another and then wait a few extra days.

but there also was the thought that apple won't probably replace it just cause of a scratch. but still, kinda sucks.

don't pick at your iphone 4. What I mean is, cut your finger nails so they aint sharp and gonna slice into the hard unbreakable Iphone 4 shell. Don't touch the glass it could break, if you do touch the glass put a soft glove on before touching the screen. Take a golf club, saw off the handle and some how connect it to the bottom of your Iphone 4, this way you don't touch it and lose signal and have a handy handle for your phone.

your right. gotta stop stressing. its just a phone right? :D

Put mine in a silicon case from day 1. Few days ago I had a holster mishap and it took a 4 foot dive onto the pavement. Thank God for the silicon. Not a single scratch.

What the hell good is a cell phone if you don't take it out of the house. Get a clue dude, it's a phone for chrissake

so true. have to ask though, do you have scratches on your phone and have a case on it?

I was going to start a new thread, but I decided to get on this one since I searched and this is close enough.

Today I noticed my first scratch and it is on the damn glass on top of the camera lense. I am not sure how it got there, but I noticed it by looking closely. No, it is not the LED flash that I am talking about, it is the glass/plastic on top of the lens for the camera. Has anyone else noticed scratches on there?

Anyone?

Agreed. I've never used a case, and I don't get scratches.

Because the glass on an iP4 is going to be just as easy to scratch today as it will be in 5 years. Saying anything about 'already' having scratches makes absolutely no sense at all. It's like saying 'How do you already have a nail in your new tire?' Are you any less likely to run over a nail they day you buy the tires than you are 40k miles later?

I have heard of this a few times. It really doesn't affect anything.

Thanks.

My wife has never had a screen protector on her iPhones and no scratches even though they rattle around in her purse. We'll see if the 4 holds up (both front and back).

Noticed front scratches in center of screen after a couple days of what seemed to be the coating and not the glass. It was only in my empty pocket or hand. The phone may have come with them and I just didn't notice. Went to apple and said it came this way and they swapped it. The new one came with a chip/defect on the underside of the glass and they swapped it again. The latest one seems to be holding up. I'm hoping it stays that way until my screen protector arrives. I'm wondering if there is an issue with the coating scratching on some phones rather than the glass. My 3gs is pristine after on year with no protector.
