That's why I won't buy the new MBP. The black keys, hinge and bezel (not to mention the lack of a matte screen option) kill the looks, in my opinion, and there are not enough technical enhancements to make up the difference. That's why I'm very happy with my early 2008 MBP. I'll keep hoping they offer better choices in the future. As someone said, if they can make iPods in rainbow colors, why not offer different color options for keyboards, hinges and bezels? I personally prefer the all-aluminum look. Much classier, in my opinion.

I concur, I love the look of the older MBP.

When it was first introduced, I was like, "WTF have they done?", but since then, I've fallen in love with the design. And whenever I see a classic MBP, to me it just looks too plain, and Dell-ish..

The keys and bazel give it a nice contrast.

I like the design, but I think it is a bit too contrasty (is that even a word ). The classic MBPs with their monotonous silver design look boring next to the unibodies, but I think the contrast between the black and the silver on the unibodies is a bit glaring.

The perfect design, in my opinion, would be the current unibody design, but with the black on the keys and bezel replaced by a shade of gray that is a touch or two darker than the silver body. :apple:

Yeah, the all-silver MBP looks antiquated and plain next to the UMBP. Don't know about "Dell-ish", though... if there was ever a look strongly associated with Dell, it's the Inspiron 6000 series with black keys on silver...

So my initial reaction when I saw the UMBP was more along the lines of "Huh? Is Dell's 4 year old color scheme suddenly high fashion now?" Then I remembered that the Inspiron 6000 is probably a ripoff of this...

They tried to hybridize the iPhone & Tibook design and it just didn't quite work right for me and instead came off looking like all other generic PCs even though the build quality is better.

They should just extended the MBA/MBP 17" design across the line

EDIT: For the record i did have a UMB but returned it due to the terrible screen. Also my sister has a UMBP and my brother has a UMB. In other words i'm well acquainted with both machines and still have 'meh' feelings about them

This is kind of a pointless question. I mean, most people are going to defend what they have. Except for the few that dont care if they have the "best" model or not.

i have the old MBP design and do not like the new one

it is ok, but i don't think i would pay 1000-2000 for it
i do not like the black around the monitor, it bothers me

I think the keyboard looks better, but I don't really like typing on them. I feel like they are finger oil magnets and will start looking shiny in no time. Thus, I got a keyboard cover (very thin unlike the iskin) to protect it. Now I am more fond of the keyboard.

yah, some called the old keys "cheap painted plastic" but they sure worked well.

Haha, i had an inspiron 6000 17" before i got my pro. No comparison on style. I never understood the whole white trim deal. That computer is what completely burned me on windows/dell.

My sentiments exactly! My 15" has turned me off Dell forever, even with the stolen styling.

As for the current macbooks, they are beautiful! People keep saying they look like generic PC's, thats true, until you get closer than 20 feet away

i can see a uni from like 500 ft away, usually b/c the glare or sun being reflected at me.

Wow, so many people prefer the new design. When it first came out, everyone was like wtf. Apple designs grow on you. Same thing happened with the Aluminum iMac. I thought they looked weird, but now the white ones look cheap. Leave it to Apple to entice you into buying the latest and the greatest!

I have a 17" matte MBP that is a the old style and a UMB. I prefer the new design, but I like them both.

for those of you who have their black keys pretty worned down (shiny) I guess you can always take out the white keys off the apple keyboards (wired or bluetooth) and put them on your laptops. Of course the bad part is the lettering is not transparent.

i like the black bezel.
i don't like the fact that the black keys will become shiny over time so i use an external keyboard when possible.
i know it's meant to be used and that kind of thing happens..it's really not too big of a deal.

Have the last old-style model. Would far prefer the new look and feel. Just not having to clean in the rim by the ugly plastic rim would be a big plus, not to mention way easier to clean the display, again without a rim.

I would also probably go for the MB now though - not a fan of the look of the speaker grilles on the MBPs then or now, and not a user of FireWire - got an external HD with it just so as to have -something- to use it with, and it locks up Finder half the time if plugged in like that, but works fine via USB - off-topic irony :).

I would say the black plastic MB was better looking again, and yes something in black and metal would be pretty cool. For now, having the black and the grey is more interesting than grey and more grey in the older MBPs.

I preferred the unibody look when it came out, but expanding to other design changes in the Mac line-up, I still think the G4 lamp iMac was better looking than the designs that have come since.

Has anyone done this? I would love to see pics!

I have seen a MBA with the white keys from a bluetooth apple keyboard and it looked awesome.

Am I the only one that yearns for the old, greenish-beige color scheme from the Apple ][e would make a comeback?

Iiiiiiiiiii don't think so, no. In Mac circles, beige is a derogatory term for Windows PC (even though PCs stopped being "beige" about 10 years ago, not too long after the last beige Mac G3).

I don't mind the black keys and black bezels that much. It is the size of the bezel surrounding the screen that bothers me. I like the slim bezel around the 15" powerbooks.

Yeah, I strongly dislike the black keys and phat black ugly bezel. And that damn glassy screen

= Totally SUCKS
