Dranix, that's a very close-minded statement. It's clear that many people prefer using the Pencil for navigation. It doesn't make them anymore right or wrong than you.

No it just shows they should have gotten a Note instead of a iPad. I don't want that stylus crap on my iPP - As a drawing and writing tool it is great but please no navigation with it.

More features and optimizations for the iPad Pro and the Pencil.

Can you give some examples? I am sincerely interested. I have the iPP and find it to do almost all I had wanted, and could think of very few changes to iOS specific for the iPP which would make me happier. One of the ones noted above, the ability to take notes on webpages (or documents right throughout the OS) and export to pdf is one that comes to mind. But its certainly not something that makes me think its rushed to market.

Edit: just saw someone else also asked this question and that you responded.

What if there was an option to turn it off? As some have said, it helps keep the screen clean and can be useful for certain navigation tasks in certain apps.

Sorry, but that is your opinion. Others may have their own and dismissing others opinions on something that could be "toggled" in settings makes no sense.

I use the pencil for navigation all the time, much better than picking it up and putting it down. Keeps the screen clean and is more precise than a finger.
It is completely crazy that the ability to use the pencil for navigation would be removed. I will not update to 9.3 if this is indeed the case. Since getting the iPP and pencil, I would say that 90% of the pencil use is in navigation, and 8% taking notes and 2% drawing. So in 9.3 the pencil will go from a device I use all the time, to one I pick up a few times a week. Great idea Apple!

I like using the apple pencil as a stylus for navigation as well as writing notes. I won't update unless I can still use that feature.

Some of you guys are finding it hard to comprehend the concept of 'personal choice' as we all like the option to do things differently than the next man. That's life, no explanations needed, no reasoning behind it, it happens. Accept it. don't even question it! :)

I doubt Apple include/exclude things by accident, intended or not, but they've given the people another choice. Advertised or not. They've opened the door...and closed it again.

Lets hope it re-opens now or sometime in the near future :)

I re-iterate!

Nothing to do with missing fingers. Just have the on/off choice for heavens sake. All parties are then catered for and happy! please have considerations for other's opinions other than your own as law. there are options people!

In my favorite app procreate, the pencil does not navigate well. It misses inputs all the time. So I just changed my habits and use my fingers to select brushes. I won't miss pencil navigation much. Since the pencil is just an accessory that is not integrated into the tablet design or for factor, I only pull it out to draw or paint. It's cumbersome to use all the time. But it does suck apple limits choice. But this is nothing new right? I thought most felt this was a feature? Streamlined workflows. User friendly.

They tried this crap with the rotate lock into a mute button. Thankfully they got the message and allowed the choice in settings. IPP users should make it well known up front they want to keep the ability to use the pencil for navigation.

Yeah I've been doing the same in all the drawings apps I use. It just seemed more natural to treat the Pencil strictly as a drawing tool, like a real pencil.

So have we all sent e-mails to complain about this? I have sent one already to apple beta and the tim cook one.

I think this was Jone Ives idea as he mentions in an interview that the Pencil was only for drawing and not a stylus. I to have contacted Apple about this dum idea.

cool thats a smart decision. consumers like choice.
Consumers do indeed like choices, but Apple has built a very lucrative business model on the fact that having lots of choices doesn't necessarily equate to a good user experience. In this case I think they're making the right decision, but I don't think that we're seeing a radical shift in iOS ideology; at least, I hope we're not.

agreed! i know im a more outlier in my use case and form factor wishes, compared to most users. i still hope apple diversifies more in the future and goes after the wintab user market. but im pretty happy with the competition so if they never do ill be ok. its a great time, we have so many solid choices for all users.

i still think allot of the appeal of apple is the "sexiness" of the devices. i work in advertising i know how important this factor is in successful product sales. They really are marketing genius. i cant say i see much difference between OSX and windows anymore. they both work well for me. However, iOS definitely is geared for a quality, average user experience that get users to invest into an ecosystem that is hard to leave. it does this very well! thats why i like mine so much for leisure time :) this is smart, as niche products dont make huge money.
