Any reason I not to use HDMI over USB-C for a monitor? Maybe I'll buy a new cable to free up an extra port. I'm not using a huge 8k monitor or anything like that
I tried both. Surprisingly, HDMI is giving me a better image. USB-C (to Display Port) was looking a bit washed out. And now I have a free USB-C port, so that's a nice bonus.

I'll be interested in the answers to your question. I have two monitors. These days, one of them is usually connected to the company laptop for my WFH setup. I think I can remember the days when they were both always connected to my rMBP. Sigh.

I have one monitor connected to the Mini, HDMI-to-HDMI. Now, it's not a fancy 4K or widescreen high-end monitor, but still. It works fine. To run dual monitors, I bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter for the second monitor. I tried it this morning, switching the monitor from the HDMI port to the Thunderbolt port with the adapter. My monitor worked just fine with it, but i noticed that after an hour or so the adapter/HDMI connection area was quite warm to the touch. Hmm. I disconnected it and returned to the HDMI-to-HDMI setup.

BTW both my monitors are this model: Asus Designo MX259HS 25” Monitor 1080P IPS. I've had them for a few years and that model is probably discontinued. Just wanted to share the information, as context for my report on how they are working with the new Mini.

Just wondering, how many of those having keyboard and mouse disconnects have used that device with another mac before it was paired to the M1 ? Esp if they still own the older mac ?
Is it still known on that old machine ?

That's a good point. I disconnected and deleted those peripherals from my old MBP in the bluetooth settings, before setting up the Mini. I'm having an occasional brief drop of the good old Apple magic mouse (or whatever it's called) but that's the extent of instability. The Apple trackpad and keyboard have been solid.

I've ordered a new Apple BT mouse, and will use the old one with the Air (I'm more of a mouse than trackpad person, too many years of old school desktop computer work, lol). I hope the new mouse will be even more stable than this one.

My monitor runs at 4K. I can always get that resolution through HDMI. But that way the frequency is limited to 30 hz, even though my monitor is supposedly capable of 60 hz through HDMI.

UPDATE: I figured it out. My LG monitor has a buried setting called "Ultra HD Deep Color". I turned that on and voila! -- 4k 60 hz over HDMI. It looks really good, better than DP.
Funny I have the same monitor. No clue why you have to enable to Enable Ultra Deep Color in order to enable 60hz through HDMI. But once you do that it works great! No issues with my M1 Mac mini.

I had that issue with my 2018 mini, but I kept thinking it was a problem with my Magic Trackpad. So the issue isn't new.

I had some wake from sleep issues (Mac not driving the display after sleep), but it's been solid since for the last five days I'd say.

M1, 16gb, 256SSD. Apple Thunderbolt monitor, USB 3 hub in the TB ports. Hub has 3 external drives, printer, keyboard. Another hub plugged into the TB monitor (USB 2 ports) for slow stuff. All is working.

One gotcha. When I plugged the Logitec Mouse dongle into the USB 3 hub, I got l line of pink dots on the screen that would come and go. Moved it to the USB 2 hub, worked. Go figure.

Fast machine.

I used the same keyboard/mouse with my 2016 MBP. Never had issues with that machine. Deleted the old profiles before setting up fresh with the MM. It's also worth noting that I have yet to experience a single issue with the mouse, it's only the keyboard

Just another FCPX update. I finally got the mini's fan to kick in. I'm working on a video that so far has nine HD video tracks stacked atop each other. The fans kicked in just for the initial processing of the last track I added. After that it was silent, and the video plays back perfectly.

Have a base M1 with a Magic Mouse 2 and Apple BT keyboard. No issues with anything, use my apple watch to unlock which works fine as well. Have a 2012 and 2018 mini as well so nothing any different from those. I did set this up as a new machine and did not transfer anything over.

I've had zero issues with mine (base model) - HDMI monitor and Apple Magic mouse / Keyboard.

It's been running in my office since I got it and it's been fine (I've mainly been connecting remotely to it using Jump Desktop but have also been in the office a few times and it's functioned perfectly)

After a week with mine using HDMI for video I have an issue of slow waking from sleep. I guess I just need to shut it down at the end of the day.

I got my M1 Mac Mini 2 days ago (1TB/16GB). Everything working perfectly. Using Apple's Bluetooth Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2 with no connection issues whatsoever. Wifi works fine, LAN connection too. Never had issues with wake from sleep, it unlocks on the fly with my Apple Watch.

Also I connected a 4K LG 27UK850-W screen to it. Tried both HDMI and USB-C. Both work fine, although on HDMI it boots up at 30 Hz instead of 60 Hz, and I need to force it via SwitchResX (but it was like this with all Macs I owned so far).

100% happy and no issues! The fastest Mac I ever had, not a single spinning beach ball. This thing is beyond amazing.

Only issue is occasional Bluetooth connecting issues. I use all wireless. I have a Logitech K780 that misbehaves occansionaly but it does the same with my windows based work system. Last update seems to have addressed Bluetooth issues some but not totally. Lost conenction to Thunderbolt display once where I did not know what was the cause. Reboot of the Mini fixed it and it has never returned.

I just had the wake-from-sleep problem for the first time. But the mini was actually awake. When the mini goes into sleep mode, I normally just tap the space bar and the mini asks for my password. That didn't work this time so I started pressing random keys trying to get it to wake up, and Music started playing my library. It appears that the mini didn't send an HDMI signal to the monitor telling it to wake up. I pressed the source button on my monitor and the screen came back on.

So I traced the wake up / delayed HDMI out issue to some Beta CAD software I had. I realized it was waking fine until I installed the Beta version of a program written for ARM / M1. I uninstalled and all seems well again. Not sure what that's all about?
