Mac Mini seems to work fine as long as you don’t use mouse, keyboard, monitor, wifi or Bluetooth.
Strange, my M1 Mini has been working perfectly since day 1 = now 35 days and not a glitch yet:
  • Apple Magic 2 full sized KB (Bluetooth)
  • Logitech 3 button mouse (USB)
  • Apple Thunderbolt 27" WQHD w/ TB3-TB2 Apple adapter
  • Samsung 32" 4K UHD - direct HDMI
  • LaCie 1TB SSD via TB3-TB2 adapter back of 27" display
  • no wifi - hardline into router for 1 Gbps....

Blazing fast machine - can't believe this $679 computer is running circles around my $2500 16" MBP !!!

Man, my Mac mini seems to somehow be getting worse and worse. First few weeks I had ZERO issues. Then my BT keyboard wouldn't connect once or twice a week which required a restart. Fine, I'll use one of the USB slots for the dongle and not have to worry about it. Nope, the keyboard somehow still doesn't recognize my Mac from time to time requiring a restart. My mouse has also become EXTREMELY laggy with tracking. Again, a restart fixes it for a day or so, but then it starts lagging again.

Never once had any of these issues using the exact same peripherals on my 2016 MBP.

I’ve been in the market for an upgrade for the past couple years, I’m currently using a late 2013 iMac with 32GB of ram. It works fine for most of my needs, but I do video work on the side and it gets bogged down with my Fuji h.265 footage. When I first watched all the reviews it seemed to check all the boxes, it would easily handle my video work with FCPX working off an external Samsung T5, as well as other basic needs. However, it seems like more reports are coming with both display and Bluetooth issues. So I was wondering if these are maybe just outliers and most peoples new Mac Mini M1s are working fine? Feedback would be greatly appreciated for those who’s systems seem to be running flawlessly.

FWIW I was planning on going with the Mac Mini M1 16GB/1TB storage, MX master 3/keyboard, and Viewsonic VP3481 monitor.

Thanks for the feedback.
M1 MacMini 16GGB/512GB here. Using as an office machine (was previously using my '13 15" Retina in a dock). This thing is faster than my home trashcan (fully loaded, 12-core model with 128gb ram and dual D700s, 2TB) in almost every way. The only reason I'm keeping the trashcan is it's an excellent VM host for my Parallels machines (12 cores and TONS OF RAM), and 8k video editing is faster (4k is not! Mini blows it away!). The mini is running a bevy of currently still x86 apps under rosetta but no complaints there, and the iOS app thing is neat (albeit quirky). Most of what I do is web based, and it's insanely fast for that. Using it with a 27" Thunderbolt Display (usb-c to thunderbolt adapter) which has been flawless. I swear the camera looks better, so I think the camera improvements people have seen with the new laptops despite the same 720p resolution might apply to any cam attached to an M1. With regard to Rosetta, even fairly obscure things like our monitoring agents (we're an IT shop) are working 100% under rosetta (monitoring, remote connections) which was a concern of mine since a lot of our clients have Macs, lease, and are refreshing their lineups with M1 Pros soon. Would highly recommend! Can't wait to replace my 15" retina with a 16" M1X. Nothing wrong with it, great laptop and could get a full decade from purchase, but the 3-4 hour battery life (even with a new battery) is not great for my use so I'm looking forward to that alone out in the field.

My Bluetooth issues seem to be fixed after deleting some files, but the display waking is still an issue.

I’ve been advised to create a guest account and see if it ha there. Not got round to it yet. If that fails then its back to Apple Support, and potentially taking the device in for repairs. My last support call was with a ‘senior adviser’ so it does seem like they’re out of the stock answers to the issue.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll try adjusting the monitor settings to see if I can get it close.
That's the issue I'm seeing as well. Unfortunately, HDMI on the mini will output at no more than 30 hz. So I've simply adjusted the brightness and contrast on the monitor itself to compensate. That surprised me, because in my experience DP was always superior in image quality to HDMI.

My "base" M1 Mac Mini is currently rockin' a 28" Samsung U28E590 display at 5120 x 2880 @ 60Hz via HDMI-2.1, leaving both USB-C / Thunderbolt-4 ports open for external storage. My monitor has two HDMI inputs -- one is 30Hz and the other is 60Hz (with a compatible cable). I assure you the Mac Mini has no problems driving this gorgeous 5K display smoothly at 60Hz via its HDMI output.

Second Mac mini. Still having connectivity issues. My keyboard and mouse just randomly disconnect. infuriating.
+1. My Bluetooth drops are worse when on 5GHz WiFi vs. 2.4GHz WiFi. I believe this can and will be fixed very soon via a software/firmware update. In the meantime do what I did -- I've got a Magic Trackpad 2 not a mouse -- but keep the trackpad plugged in (via USB/Lightning cable) and the signals will go thru the cable and it will be perfect. I realize it's a stopgap measure but simply plugging-in my trackpad made my new Mac Mini "perfect".

Called Apple Support the other day. They are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. I have the level 2 support direct contact information for my case.

That's interesting. With the 2018 models it used to be the other way around. For many switching to 5Ghz improved the situation markedly.

M1 mac mini (16/256) just encountered with bluetooth issue with my logitech keyboard, mouse and magic trackpad 2. and a bit blurry resolution with my 1080p monitor.

I still have issues with my Magic Mouse 2.

I've disconnected my USB 3 hub, I've disconnected my second monitor (USB C to HDMI adaptor), I've disconnected my external SSD and left with nothing but a monitor and one sounds card (USB 2).

I've also disabled 2.4GHZ WiFi completely and tried to use safe mode.
Further more, I've tried to reset bluetooth module and factory reset all bluetooth devices but to no avail.

I'm quite lost really. Every 1-2 hours the magic mouse stops for 10 seconds, then says "disconnected", a few second after "connected" again but it won't move, then "disconnected" and finally 5-10 second after it says "connected" for the second time and it's all back to normal.
Exact same behavior pretty much every 2 hours. Not sure what to do.

I truly believe a lot of this is due to more of an issue with Big Sur. I have had Spotlight completely stop on me after my computer is on for a few days and I restart and Spotlight is working just fine. I have had Bluetooth completely lock up on me - in the system preferences, I could not right click on any of the devices, nothing would work, I couldn't even turn Bluetooth off. A restart fixed it.

Why do I think this is just Big Sur? Well this is all happening on my 2019 i9 iMac. Mojave and Catalina had ZERO issues with Bluetooth. But shortly after upgrading to Big Sur, I start getting this issues?

Software fix right? As I am nearly certain its an issue with Big Sur or the drivers included in Big Sur as my 2019 i9 iMac is giving me as much trouble as others are reporting here with their M1 macs.

That's interesting! So you have bluetooth issues on Big Sur but on an intel device... Strange indeed!

Yes it is very strange. I have been using macs since Leopard, and using Bluetooth since High Sierra and never had any issues like this. Even Spotlight "crashing" where it just doesn't work is a brand new thing.

I have always been about upgrading to the latest release ASAP. I do it with software not just operating systems. But the latest releases of nearly everything is really making me not want to go down this path anymore. I have had issues with almost all the big Windows 10 updates, Visual Studio 2019 the first week of release, Catalina with kernel panics due to GPU drivers, Big Sur due to Spotlight and Bluetooth issues, brand new games I look forward to having a lot of bugs/poor performance. I am just getting too tired of dealing with the constant issues.

Wow. Thanks for sharing.
to confirm - what bluetooth issues are you experiencing with Big Sur?

Same issues that are reported here - my wireless keyboard and mouse that came with the 2019 i9 iMac would disconnect randomly. Also, Bluetooth would "lock up" where I cannot even disconnect devices or even right click on anything in system preferences. I can't even turn bluetooth off and back on again. Only solution is a restart. My Sennheiser headphones drops occasionally too, and when it does, it is still listed as connected in Bluetooth settings which is where I cannot right click - disconnect.

Plug both keyboard and mouse directly to the M1 and work intensely for a few days this way. Allow the M1 to sleep this way for hours too, for those few days. The software and the neurals (sic) may have some "learning" to do, directly connected for a spell.

1. I have never heard about that with any other bluetooth device 2. None of my other Macs (or PCs for that matter) have required this 3. How are you plugging in and using a Magic Mouse?

Sorry, but your ideas are non-nonsensical.
