Using mine, Primary machine!

Ordered mine a few weeks ago. My HP Pavillion hard drive gave up, and after having so many problems with the computer already, I decided to buy a new computer. Long story short, I have this MacBook: 2.4GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 250 GB HDD and of course, black.

It was used, unlike the one who started this thread, lucky bastard :p, but it's in good shape and works perfectly. Just bought some RAM, and I'm going to upgrade to 6 GB (yes, you can do that. Apple says you can only install 4, but look it up ;))

I still have mine. I use it every day. But I think it's time for me for get something a bit newer. The fan is constantly running these days. I've done through cleaning, but it still runs like crazy.

I thought I'd be rocking one. I got one for $300 on eBay in excellent condition, no cracked palm rest etc. Got it in the mail today and the box was pretty beat up. And sure enough, it's damaged. Broken LCD, misaligned lid and the top case it even bent. Poor thing. I was really looking forward to using it for work and school.

The OP is one lucky son of a gun. They are really nice machines and I was always envious of those who had a black one back in the day (mine was white).

I've seen a lot for sale around my local area but they're usually in quite bad shape. If I wasn't so overly reliant on iCloud and Xcode I'd pick one up but maybe one day if a nice one comes along I may grab it just for media and general browsing.

Well I just shipped my damaged one off and I'm getting a replacement. Good older mac to complement my 15" for school and work uses. Easier to cary around and not worried about damaging it as much.

Beautiful machines with terrible graphics performance :)

Oh gawd, grinned so hard. :D

Hi can anyone recommend a good external monitor that will work with the resolution of the black macbook? 27" preferably.

for those, anything that runs 1920 by 1080. Any res higher than that might cause a bit of a stutter due to the amount of pixels and the limited capability of that integrated intel GPU.

this would work well and looks very aesthetic :)

our Black Macbook gave up the ghost a few weeks ago

thinking of combining it with my white Macbook of the same vintage to make a black/white macbook hybrid.. Thinking the black keyboard on the white mac would be the fastest switch
.

have an extra SSD I've meaning to add in..

I'm kind of glad they don't make them anymore. It's bad enough having to decide the colour of my iPhone and iPad.

Typing this on it now! Late 2007!
(2.16GHz C2D, 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB HD)

Battery has 1615 cycles (replaced battery and keyboard once) is pretty shot and drains rapidly. Fans ramp up like crazy and can barely browse multiple tabs on Firefox without freezing due to RAM limitations.

Snow Leopard runs great on it. Barely comes out from under the bed but occasionally I bust it out for some internet browsing on the couch while watching tv. It's a great relic that continues to barely hold on!

I want to get one soon because I need my own laptop for school, and a secondary computer for my desk at home.

Where can I get one for a good price in good condition? Like, REALLY good condition? Can't use Craigslist because my Mom.

The one I got on eBay that is posted above was in perfect condition, though I'm getting another sent from the same seller. It was $300, no chips, dings, no cracked palm rest, great LCD etc. So you will pay a little more for the black color and the condition. But it's worth it in my opinion.

The one I got is an Early 2008 (the last one) model with the 2.4GHz C2D and the X3100. Too bad they didn't make the 2009 model with the Nvidia GPU in black. At least that'd be able to run Mavericks. I plan on keeping this one on Snow Leopard and downgrading from Lion.

But could I get a white one in the same conition for less?

My couzin is, his is a 2006 black macbook pro, the hdd failed and broke a couple pf weeks ago, that's good considering it worked for 8 years lol

Just finished cleaning up my new (to me) Black MacBook. Took her apart, took out the fan and disassembled it, put a little WD-40 on the axle and it's better, but will eventually need a replacement because it's a bit noisy still. Also reapplied the thermal paste with some Arctic Silver 5, the old stuff was pretty crusty and way over applied. Dusted it out and wiped it down, and she looks great!

Now I'm just waiting on a 6GB RAM kit from OWC to show up. I thought about upgrading the HDD to a hybrid drive or small SSD, but the stock 250GB drive will do. A tad slow, but for it's use, acceptable. And the new battery is alright that it came with, but doesn't fit right and is all glossy. Whenever it goes I'll try and get an Apple one to match it.

P.S. The coal dock from http://www.maxrudberg.com looks great with it!

I bought my daughter a new MacBook Pro retina for Christmas so ended up with her early 2008 Macbook. I put a Crucial M500 240 GB SSD in it and got a new battery for it from Apple. Debating whether to up the ram from 4 GB to 6 GB. I have Lion running on it.
