I'd have gotten one, except I needed a MacBook capable of running Mountain Lion, so I got a mid-2009 MacBook. When I upgraded the RAM to 6 GB and installed a 500 GB hard drive, OS X Mountain Lion and iLife '11 (complete with iDVD!) it felt almost like I just got a new Mac!

Refurbished my MacBook Black!

Hi all,

I recently refurbished my Black MacBook. I've used this machine for years and taken very good care of it!
I've bought quite some things to make this as close to new as possible and at the same time max it out.

What has been done?

Now, I will store it away for collection purposes! It's an awesome machine running very smooth on 10.7.5. I just have the Tiger background ;)

It's almost completely wear and tear free! and quick!!

How to Upgrade when you're really out of date

I can't believe I almost bought a new computer. I'd love to keep this thing running forever.

I'm currently running 10.5.8. Ouch

2ghz, upgraded to 2GB RAM with a 250 SSD.

Do I but Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and go from there? I saw some people saying they were running with the Lion but....

Legendary!

I just bought mind off kijiji for $220.
and Intel 550 SSD 120GB for $90 off kijiji also.
added 4GB RAM

Total Cost : $350
Performance : Rocking with regular uses.
Value : Priceless

now I am all in writing a book on this stunning pience!

The black macbook is amazing.

I've had it for nearly five years and it is still running as smoothly as it did when I first bought it.

What do you use to clean the black macbook?

It's nice to have faith in humanity again. :D

PS: I think the white Macbooks are sexier!

Purchased mine in August of 2007 and it's still running strong. I've had to replace the hard drive I think 3 times; the logic board once after I screwed up the headphone jack; the optic drive once; the battery once; and the topcase twice (would be three if I still had the insurance).

I would love to keep the case and gut the interior by giving it a better logic board with better graphics and a screen with a better resolution because it's still one of the best looking laptops out there. To that, I have a question for anyone with the knowledge: Is it possible to switch out the logic board on this mid-2007 model with one from a later model? Or is the one board only compatible with it's intended frame? I'm going to start a thread about this question as well. Hope it gets answered somewhere.

Still on my BlackBook...added a 120GB SSD and bumped RAM up to 4GB. Just reinstalled, and it runs like new. Plus I still get people asking me where I got a black macbook :D

The mid-07 Macbook's frame is only compatiable with the mid-07 logicboard and maybe the 2006 models as well. If you want to put in a late-07 or early-08 logicboard, you'll need to use the bottom case from the donor model.

i got my 2.4 stacking dust in the closet...that thing cant do a single task without it turning into a frying pan

Thanks for the response. My main reason for wanting to do the switch is to remove the current GMA 950 graphics. I'll check around and price the parts; I'd be willing to spend up to $500 to "renew" this classic computer. If and when the computer dies it wouldn't hurt to attempt it anyway.

I've bought my black 2007 in 2008 and since then there were a lot of "adventures":
- one sunny morning, in a pair of months after buying the macbook, the native hitachi hdd dies, destroying a lot of my personal info, some work and 10-year-archive of photos and videos. I've bought a WD Caviar Blue to replace.
- fed the topcase with vodka at a new year party -- the power on/off button stopped to function.
- during trying to power on connecting some parts of motherboard (a technician showed it to me), I've burned the poor motherboard.
- Lied to a service center and they believed me that I did not open my laptop. The repair (replacing of the motherboard, in fact) and replacing of the hdd took a while, during which the battery has died.
- Waited a little more, have become the device fully functional, new motherboard, new hdd, new topcase.
- The new hitachi hdd has also died. Now it's OCZ Vertex 4 128 there. This particular upgrade turned the mid-2007 somewhat old machine into a fully functional speedy modern device.
- The last issue was a little catastrophe: I was riding a bicycle, the macbook was in a bag on my bag. I've falled on my back and the display cracked. After my eyes went really wide when I got known that the repair will cost approx. 500€ in the apple service center, I've bought the new display matrix and all the tools from the ifixit.com and, using the instructions from ifixit, I replaced the matrix. It costed me approx. 200€ including 20% tax.

Well, now I am waiting when Apple manages to stick the Retina into a 13 MB Air and then my MB Black goes to my mother. I hope it will be serving some more years ,)

blackbook screen to retina is like dead and living

do you mean that you've replaced the native screen with retina?

oh no, i had bought a retina macbook and sentinced my blackbook into eternal darkness.

I sold off my 2.16 BlackBook last year in favor of an original MacBook Air 1.8, because I thought I would like the multi-touch trackpad and a pound less to lug around. I hated the Air. It's slow and vulnerable - I had to get the screen replaced because it just broke off... After the repair I sold it, and I got me a nice BlackBook 2.4 with 4GB and I'm loving it.

Hey folks,

2008 Black Macbook 2.4 Ghz user here. I am considering buying a 250 gb SSD. I've looked at Samsung 840. Could anybody give me an advice what SSD to choose? I know that whatever I choose, this mac won't utilize its full speed capacity. Still, any advice would be more than welcome.

Thanks

A Samsung 840 is a superb choice. No, you won't benefit all the Sata III goodness, but no other SSD will anyway.

The Samsung 840 is a very reliable, quick SSD than can be reused for future Mac hardware (maybe?). Choosing the fastest now might mean not buying a new one in the future.

Also, the 840 has one of the best prices. Hands down a winner.

Wow how did u get the free one..? Still under warranty..?

In fact, I have two. I am using one as my 'go around the house' machine and the other one just to keep it in brand new condition, only took out the battery.

I'll post pictures by the end of the month when I get back from overseas trip.

Cheers Blackbook fans:apple:

I wish there was a way I could make my 2010 macbook look like new again. I have scratches and a couple cracks on the top case and keyboard case. Runs great since I upgraded to 8GB of Ram.
