mine just arrived. no scuff, dings or scratches. Even though I read how light and thin is was, i was still surprised when i removed it from the box.

No one uses cases anymore? Are you nuts? Is that why every store has a huge aisle of them? Some of the logic here cracks me up....

Eric

Sigh...

Nope. No cases. I looked at the store and there were none. They even laughed at me when I asked where they were. They said:

"No one uses cases. Have you heard about the scuffs in the 5 though? Ruins resale value. And no one expects phones to wear either. Ever."

And I for one, believe them...

After having a white 4s I forgot how damn sweet this thing looks naked in black!!! Apple care+ and a caseless black ip5 is the way to go!! Very happy!

Always wanted the black one. Even my gf who really wanted the white one switched to the black one at the store when she was able to see them in person. We are both very happy right now.

Give me 30 seconds with your car and I'll pick out more scuffs than your phone will ever have...and you probably paid thousands for that.

Lighten up guys, scuff happens.

I am. Just opened mine and it is in perfect condition. Time will tell how it resists scratches, but its beautiful!

I'm super happy with it!

Please post this on the thread on the main page. If you read that thread you'd think everyone who has a new phone has dings and scuff marks.

Mine has one miniscule mark on the band on the back beveled area, its ridiculously small though. I love this phone though, time will tell how it holds up but it looks fantastic.

I'm super happy with my black 5, no scuffs or anything. But if did have some hairline "scuffs" right out the box I wouldn't mind, it's a phone. And I do care about resale value of any electronic that I buy, so I will be taking extra care of this little guy. :)

I inspected mine careful and there are no issues. No scratches, no dings, no funny screen issues, home button is good. It is a pretty good looking phone :)

After reading all these stories about scratches on their black iPhone I was a bit worried, and when it arrived, i carefully inspected it from top to bottom, there was nothing wrong at all with it, no marks.

I have been playing with it now for at least 3 hours, still no marks, works PERFECTLY. Really happy with purchasing it, best phone I have had and it looks amazing in black!

Got mine at noon, and I just opened it. No scuffs. I'm going to activate it and hopefully no problems with anything else. It looks great though!:D

You don't get it. Yes, of course I expect the thing to start peeling/chipping away in due time. No product is absolutely flawless. However, for such a premium product it shouldn't start to wear away in a matter of a few hours with normal use. With good handling, it should at least last a few weeks or months or so before even showing such signs (in my opinion). And a case just adds more thickness to the thin design. Why should I have to pay more money to prevent something that normally shouldn't happen so early with the use of a product. Apple should at least offer some kind of free casing then imo.

At the Apple Store near me, hundreds of people had been handling the demos all day and when I looked at each of them, even the fingerprints on the screen were minimal. There was more wear and tear on the brand new smart signs on the tables (iPads). I'm calling OCD bs.

I am.

1. The scuffing does not look bad at all unless you really abuse it.
2. The beauty of the black phone outweighs the scuffing issue.
3. I do not care about resale value.
4. I will use a case most of the time.
5. I buy things to use them, not obsess about them.
6. There's a reason the term "normal wear and tear" exists. It happens to everything.
7. White just doesn't have the same wow factor to me.

:apple:

All of the above except maybe 4. Now reading some of the other comments about the scuffing- people also got to realize when you intently look for something you will find some issues.
