Why is it always Verizon? Screw them, too. The moment my AT&T contract is up I'm going to T-Mobile. I never had a dropped call with them, they finally have 3G in my area which, I might add, is a magnitude faster than AT&T's and their customer service has always been second to none.

honestly i have the same service i had with verizon, might be your location.
and verizon just might do the same thing then.
in my last two office buildings i worked in, verizon didnt get service, but my iphone did. so think its just draw of the luck sometimes!

Have fun with a blackberry...$20 bucks says your draped in EVDO Rev A though...

Shouldn't this thread be called: Who is ready to drop ATT?

That probably is more appropriate although I would have to say that after two years of really trying to be a fan, I've given up on Apple. I'm pretty convinced the Cupertino people live in Jobsland full time and have no concept of the "real world". Snow Leopard is an anemic dog when compared to Windows 7 (on the same Apple hardware, no less) and the only thing the iPhone really had going for it was it's UI which will soon be matched by other companies that actually employ user feedback. Apple, being Apple, will respond by trickling out a couple more updates with a few more dubious features and rely on the "coolness" factor to keep pushing them out the door and pushing their religion down user's throats. But after watching the way they treat devs and how badly they've mismanaged the app store, I don't hold out much hope for Apple really "getting it". I got rid of Snow Leopard entirely the day Windows 7 released and I'll be rid of the iPhone in July 2010, I'm sure.

As a truck driver who's always moving between different states on all kinds of freeways and such, I've noticed that I only get decent coverage when I'm in a semi-populated area, and 3G only when I'm in a major city. Everywhere else, it's a crapshoot if any calls go through, and it's a miracle if the call doesn't drop every 5 minutes.

I love my iPhone, but most of its functionality goes out the window if I have crappy/no service. :(

I'm also in the DC area and make about 10 calls a day.

About 3-4 of those calls will get dropped. So in the course of a year I probably have over 1,000 dropped calls.

Still worth it to have an iPhone. I have no idea what phone I'd buy if I were forced to go to Verizon.

If your dropping that many calls it is a good bet that your phone itself has problems.

I'm considering switching to Verizon (not Android though). I need to check my area first.
why wouldn't you move onto android??? if you are switching off of the iphone system, android is the ONLY alternative. Unless it's the prophesized cdma iphone.

As for above dudes dropped calls, i believe it. Truck driver? com on, he's bouncing between towers constantly. Att doesn't even blanket the entire interstate system with EDGE let alone 3G!

Agreed. I love the Iphone and haven't seen anything close to the phone by anyone else. However ATT is not nearly as good cell service as Verizon was. And that was over 2 years ago. If they ever make a Verizon Iphone I will switch back immediately even if I have to buy out my contract.

I live in the Balt/DC area as well.

Dumped Verizon because of their lousy service. Two beer cans with a string worked better. AT&T is excellent. No problem at all. ;)

not yet. my contract with AT&T is not done yet, and I am not sure if DROID is the phone that I will be happy with, given that I have an iPhone now.

Well, definitely not me considering I just got my iPhone (and switched to AT&T service) last week! I liked Verizon and wouldn't have left them if it weren't for the iPhone. I haven't had any complaints about AT&T coverage and service so far. I've talked with a few friends who sometimes grumble about dropped calls and whatnot but none of them would give a second thought to giving up their iPhone.

I will say I'm still a bit hesitant about switching to AT&T. The coverage is fine where I'm at right now but I do wonder how good it will be when I travel out of state.

To be honest I haven't had a dropped call in about a year. Although when I first got my iphone 3g I had a ton of dropped calls.

When I upgrade to whatever new iPhone comes out next, I ain't getting it on O2 again, that's for sure! Luckily it's coming out on Vodafone and T-Mobile soon, and it's already on Orange now too.

Since AT&T has upgraded the towers around me from EDGE to 3G, my phone is rendered useless in terms of calling or texting at least two nights a week for me. On those average two nights, my phone will show 5 bars of signal then drop immediately to zero bars. Outbound calls won't ever connect, and the majority of text messages just hang in the balance. When it's one of the other five days of the week, texting is fine but voice calling is still a hassle. Longest phone call I've had is ten minutes. It usually drops the call within five minutes, typically.

Yes, I know I can switch EDGE only on my phone and not have to deal with it (and I do when I make a call) but that's not the point. My bill every month goes to that 3G network working, and it doesn't. I know that not everybody has the same problem as me, but a lot of people do. Maybe one day AT&T will get their network working right and actually live up to their reputation as the fastest network (cause they're not). Until then, my iPhone is up for sale :( and I'll just have to move on to something different.

I love everything apple. I love my iPhone. I always try to defend it when people bash it. But I'm getting so fed up with the crappy service. Too many call failed and dropped calls and cutting out and trying to make a phone call and getting nothing. Anyone else getting the itch to switch back to verizon? What's holding you back?

Misleading title. You are complaining about AT&T, not the iPhone.

I carry an iPhone, Blackberry, and Droid device (mobile support for my company). No device is even close to the iPhone. I can barely even look at my blackberry anymore after being spoiled by the iPhone, and Android is so immature as a platform right now. Plus, I hate typing on the droid.

The iPhone is bar far the best mobile phone/pocket computer available right now.
