The blue 12 I ordered hasn't arrived yet, but I think I'll probably return it and keep my 11. I was mostly interested in the more compact form factor and better screen, however the cheap case I ordered from Amazon (to tide me over until the Apple leather cases are available) has arrived and I don't think the size difference is going to be as noticeable as I thought it would be. Also concerned that battery life may be worse so I'm starting to think it may be worth waiting another year for more efficient 5G modems and honestly my 11 is totally fine.
Now that I have it I really dislike the “warm” screen compared to my iPhone 11. I’ll try it for the weekend before I make up my mind, but I’m pretty sure I’ve already decided to return it. Not going to spend $1200 on a phone when I don’t like the screen.

Go to settings, display and turn off True Tone.

It‘s off. Exact same settings side by side. The 12 display is 🤮

You really actually prefer that teal cast on the right? 😧. To me, both look a little off, but I guess that could also be due to the white balance of the camera you used to photograph them. My 12 Pro is a nice crisp white when I turn True Tone off. I keep True Tone on to keep a warmer cast that is supposed to be healthier for the eyes. I turn it off when I want an accurate view of the color of something.

Took the photo with an iPad, which of course doesn’t have the greatest camera, but to me in real life the iPhone 11 appears to be true white, whereas the 12 has a reddish yellow tint. I actually typically use True Tone on my 11, but on the 12 everything just looks brown with it on.

The camera is a big jump from the XR and I disagree that you can't see a difference in the screen. But, I do take your point that improvements aren't revolutionary these days. I'd be perfectly happy with an XR too, to be honest.

Well True Tone does honestly look best on an LCD display. I have tried the iPhone X, XS Max, and fully owned the 11 Pro and have always thought True Tone on the OLED looked like weak tea in most lighting.

But if your phone looks too pink with it turned off, and you’re unhappy with it, by all means see if you can get a better replacement. Because the sad fact of life is even this far into OLED use on phone displays, there is still some variance and some displays do look better than others.

I did note more uniformity across iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max displays. But it’s a new year and they possibly may also be using a different manufacturer for some of the displays. I’m not sure, but I read some rumors that indicated the possibility at the time of publication. Even if they’re all made by Samsung, after years of owning Samsung phones with my husband, I have seen significant OLED display variances across the same models. Apple has a tighter spec, but I’ve seen variances in Apple’s OLED, too.

I got the iPhone 12 Blue and now that it arrived today, I got a chance to compare it to my iPhone XR. Unfortunately I didn't see a huge difference in the screen colors going from LED to OLED. I can definitely see a difference in resolution though when comparing phone screens. I tried out the camera and why I can see some upgrades, its just not enough for me to make such a huge payment in upgrading.

I plan to return it and stick with my iPhone XR. Also, I am not as happy with the blue color as much as I thought. The other colors don't look that great to me either on the 12 from what I have seen of unboxing videos.

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade who enjoys the upgrade. Its definitely a nice phone. Anyone else plan to return the iPhone 12 and stick with their old phones?

Watch a 4K HDR YouTube video on both phones this evening at max brightness in a dark place and you’ll see the difference between LCD and AMOLED. It’s a stark contrast! Pun intended.

I got 12 pro and I like it but feel it may be a tad big there is no way to use it one handed. If the mini has come out first I for sure would have ordered it. I may go back to my eight but it’s been only a day so I will see

Thanks for the info, but it may be that I just don’t like how Apple calibrates their OLED screens. If I think about it now when I bought the 11 I waited until the phones were on display at the Apple Store out and found that the 11 Pro display was warmer than the 11 display and I didn’t care for it, which was a big part of why I went with an 11.

I hadn’t originally planned to upgrade from my 11 this year, but when the 12 seemed to solve my one and only issue with my 11 (that I find it a little bulky) I jumped on the preorder bandwagon. I’m pretty sure I’ll just return the 12 for a refund and stick with my 11 now. I’d rather live with a little bulky than a brown screen. Maybe I’ll be happier with the next screen tech that Apple adopts (micro LED in a year or two)?

Next complaint. The scaling is different on the 12 than the 11 so less text/fewer emails appear on the 12. That’s also a miss for me! Haven’t found a compelling reason to keep the 12 yet...
Did you follow the instructions at the link @Gator5000e provided? I just played around with it and made my display very blue-white. It really works!

I think you can change scaling but I don’t remember how. Oh well it sounds like you love your iPhone 11 and just don’t have a compelling reason to move on yet. That’s fine. That’s what the return period is for. Maybe next year will be more compelling for you. Or whenever they get rid of the notch.

Can't believe it myself, but i'm going to return my 12 Pro. This is the first time a new iPhone did not excite me.

Screen was a little bit better (no ghosting), camera took better photos and it felt faster. but it still didn't feel like i was gaining much. (especially not as much as it costs) because the features remained mostly the same, it just didn't feel much different.

and sadly it feels a bit uncomfortable in my hands. it's a bit bigger, heavier and the edges are... edgier ;)

the smaller bezels actually look bigger and more prominent to me, because of the flat edges. (or because of the brighter frame of pacific blue? not sure)

but otherwise i love the look of the device. pacific blue is amazing.

i just restored my iPhone X and it feels plenty fast and much more comfortable to my hands.
will probably try the Mini next year. but for now i'll stick to the X.

and i have to say it actually feels "freeing" to have a phone that is a bit older, has some scratches and dents and i don't have to baby around as much.

I played with it and then turned it off, but it’s almost like it corrected something as now this display is suddenly looking much better than the display on the 11. I was also scrolling through photos and everything looks so much better on the 12. I’m starting to think my first impression was wrong. I think I’m going to have to try using it for a few days before I really decide. I did say that if I upgrade again this year I have to keep this one for a couple years!

I'm probably keeping my 12Pro but wasn't so sure yesterday. I prefer the size of my 11Pro and am still getting used to the 12. I don't think the 11Pro size is coming back so no reason to wait for it to return next year. I preferred the screen on my 11 yesterday rather than the warmer screen on the 12, but by evening the screens were almost identical in brightness and color. I put the 11 away today so I wouldn't make any more comparisons and the 12 screen looks fine. I haven't even used the camera on the new phone yet, but my old photos look better on it. It's super fast. I had one long phone call with a friend and the connection was perfect. Occasionally would get an echo on the 11. Just hope I can get used to the size. It's a little awkward to hold and doesn't fit as easily into my purse or pocket even though the size difference is minimal. I'm hoping by tomorrow I'll completely love my new 12Pro.

This is a pretty reasonable thought process in my opinion.

I‘m confident I’ll want to keep my iPhone 12 Pro when it comes in next week, but I can see each of your points potentially being the case.

The last one especially about it being somewhat freeing using your older X again and not worrying about babying it / getting scratches, haha. So true, I treat my X pretty cavalierly these days (and have always used without a case!)
