Thanks all for the replies--my impressions playing with them at Apple have been positive. A couple quirks outweighed by what I would simply call "a nice change" from my previous Apple phones. For me phone usage is about 50% Safari; 20% email; 20% navigation (Navigon, which I think has been updated for the X) and about 10% phone use. Despite the narrower screen than my 7 Plus, I just like the feel of the X.

The overall comfortability of the iPhone X and smaller form factor is key for this new iPhone. The iPhone Plus is larger and More cumbersome to handle, but with the smaller form factor, the X feels great in the hand with the stainless bands and I find I don't need to use both hands as often As I do with my iPhone Plus.

It's a great phone, but I didn't think it was worth $1k so I ended up returning it and got a $350 Essential Phone that does 98% of the same things, but at a much lower cost.

Just a quick clarification for the thread tally, Geoff.

Shall we put you down as a like or a doesn't like? ;)

An LED screen is what defines luxury, top of the line, phones by today’s standard.

What do you mean by that? The iPhone 7 is now a hyundai cause it still uses LCD even though it was top of the line a few months ago?

Just because Honda Accord comes with Honda sensing and push button start now, it is still no Mercedes.
So I guess the iPhone 8 is inferior?

I’ve used Apple products only and always will. But there are lots of people here who got the iPhone because they want to be hot sh*t. And they’ll say the 8 is inferior which in fact it’s a perfected device.

I love mine. And this is coming from someone who kept their 6 plus 3 years cause I was sooo bored with smart phone tech.

It’s a fun phone that’s fast, takes amazing videos and the screen looks fantastic. What’s not to like? Ohhh the notch lol.

I’m pretty much convinced anyone who is still talking negativity about the notch is someone who has never even used the phone in real life.

Your words, not mine.

But I do believe that LED screen, portrait mode dual camera, and water proofing are features only found in the top-of-the-line phones at this point in time. Why? Because LED screens and high quality cameras are expensive parts and it is costly to implement the water proofing.

Welcome to the world of cutting edge technology.

I think it’s great. Finally feels like a different phone. Haven’t felt that since the 6 Plus.

What’s most important to me is software experience. I can get the same software experience on my iPhone 8 as the X pretty much. I had the X for 2 weeks and to me it was like a Rolls Royce with a crappy interior. Most definitely the most premium looking device on the market. I guess I was expecting an over haul in the software to coincide with the super premium hardware. For me the super premium hardware doesn’t jive with the software. Not that I don’t like the software I do as I have an 8. The X just didn’t feel right. I returned it got an 8 and I’m couldn’t be happier with what I consider the perfected iPhone.
Appreciate your opinion, though after having an X for a few weeks there is simply no way for me to consider the 8/7/6S/6 design again. BUT, I originally thought the 8/8+ was a mistake, period (well I still think it should have been 7S not 8). Yet it is still better than the 7, and it is clear there are many people who like that design. So it is good that Apple offers both, else people like you might have switched away from the iPhone altogether.

Have had a larger phone since the Note 2 (after having every iPhone prior). After that it was a Note 4, iPhone 6+, and an LG V20. I have large hands so they were never "too" much of a problem to use, even one-handed, but I did have to adjust to balancing them just right. And since I keep my phone in my front pocket it was sometimes a tight fit. So when the X was announced I thought it was great since it was a large screen phone without the large screen phone size. My only real hesitation was FaceID, which ended up not being a concern.

My considerations for a new phone were iPhone X, iPhone 8+, or a Samsung Note 8. At the time I could get the Note 8 that included a $300 gift card (Sam's Club), the iPhone 8+ with a $250 gift card, or the X at full price. I wanted an X but felt I would also be happy with a Note 8. However, another factor for me was that I wanted to go back to an Apple Watch, from the LG Sport watch (Android Wear) I had for the last year but never really liked (got it due to LTE). That meant getting an iPhone. I tried to like the iPhone 8+, considering that with the $250 gift card it was a lot less expensive than the X. But I couldn't do it and figured if I was going back to iPhone I might as well do it with the one I want.

If you like a sore thumb and pinky sure. But sounds like you have giant ogre hands which is perfect .

Lol, no, I don’t since I am actually not a troll unlike some people on here. But if that makes you feel better about having hands even smaller than my small lady hands, okay.

Reachability and one handed keyboards, and being able to shift the phone around in your hand, instead of stubbornly insisting on holding it one way at all times, are the key.

I have small lady hands. Can use my X one handed just fine, despite being very used to my 5s prior to the X.

5S to X? OMG. Really. I guess you will be using all the money you saved on upgrades over the years for psycho- and physical therapy??? :D Totally kidding, just poking good natured fun at you. But still...

What type of case are you using?

4th iPhone since they got bigger, love :apple: more for taking the risks with the X . Looking forward to the next iteration:) at a reasonable price

I use a Spigen Slim Armor mostly, but if am safely at home, over carpet, I sometimes brave going naked.

My hands must be smaller than yours cause when I rest the X on my pinky no way I can use it with one hand / 1 thumb. Doesn’t pass ‘walking the dog test’. I can use it with one hand sort of if I rest it on all 4 fingers and if I’m standing stable but if I’m standing on the bus it flew out of my hands. Plus I use a case that’s more protective than the Slim Armor. I prefer to be able to hold it securely and my thumb can reach all corners. Can’t do that with the X. X is not a bonafied 1 hand device.
