I would say you guessed wrong. Based on the OP's original post, it seems they were indicating the new changes to the iPhone X are much appreciated and different from the last four generations of iPhones.

I think you missed who I was replying too.. it wasn’t the OP.

I’ve been an avid and loyal iPhone and Apple customer before the 1st iPhone. I’ve always upgraded to the latest and greatest iPhone release.

I kind of feel like your comment. The X is the most premium and sexy device on the market today. But when you ‘open it up’ it’s just another iPhone. Being ‘just another iPhone’ isn’t a bad thing at all. But the premium hardware doesn’t coincide with the software, doesn’t feel right. The 6/7/8 hardware coincides with the software more and feels right. Utilitarian / industrial hardware with it’s utilitarian simple type software. They jive together.

I think you missed the point of my comment as well. Was a joke btw. Also, I completely disagree with your characterization of the hardware/software mix. I will not say that the 8 is inferior, because it isn’t. But to say that the X doesn’t jive is your opinion. For me this is the perfect mix. Completely fluid. I can run in and out of apps with ease either with an app switcher gesture or returning to the springboard first, or through the widgets pane or control center. For me, it is way more intuitive than the home button ever was.

I wish I could still return mine. I have had every iPhone and I have a bunch of other Apple products. I don't know if I am just bored of iOS or not, but I really am not excited using the X. I would prefer to try the Note 8 for something different and the ability to customize. But, I am passed my 14 day return window, so I will just wait until next year.

It is definitely the best iPhone ever created, but I am getting bored with the iPhone. I also would prefer a larger screen coming from a Plus.

I can totally understand this point of view. I was just about there (Note 8 also) but decided to wait and give the X a shot. Which reinvigorated my love for iOS. But if it isn’t for you it may be time for a change.

If I were short on cash, this would be the #1 phone I go for as well. But I do have an expense account and a “too good to be true” Crop/EPP agreement. The iPhone X 256GB is a no brainer.
A person who is paid 35% of your salary probably has 99.99% the same gene as yours. :D

Which bad reviews? Just curious.

I saw a review in Apple's News app and some people gave their reviews here. The review that hit me the most was that the iPhone X screen was not usable because they needed the Control Center needed to be accessed from the top of the screen. It was a huge show stopper and for some reason I didn't have any problem.

I would have kept my 7 except my wife wanted a smaller iPhone than her 6S Plus and she didn’t like the X she preferathe 6/7/8 chassis so I gave her my 7 and took her 8. Couple of days ago I switched gave her the 8 and took the 7. I like the aluminum industrial stealthy look of the 7 Space Gray vs the glass back.

Anyway that was the main reason I returned my X. I didn’t consider some things when the X was announced. Top criteria for me that the X had to be same size as my 7 with a Magpul case and it was close enough. I got the X on the weekend and the only cases available were they Apple cases so I grabbed one. Navigating was a little awkward cause of screen real estate but wasn’t bad.

Weekend was over and it was time for work. I need a much more protective case like the Magpul or Otterbox Symmetry. Picked a Symmetry case as soon as the AT&T store opened where I work. OH SH*T now the X is yuge almost like a Plus. Big difference between the minimal Apple case. Couldn’t use it 1 handed comfortably and securely. Quick draw I dropped it a couple of times. There are many times that I have to move and operate my phone at the same time using my other hand to do stuff and my other hand navigating my device, bending down, going underneath stuff. Luckily on grass I dropped my iPhone X many times. No way I can use an Apple case for most of my week. Damn I tried like heck but couldn’t get the X to work comfortably and securely with 1 hand on on the move. If I had a desk job probably would be good for me.

Yes, I can see why returning it makes sense. It isn't the most optimize size for most people. If the specs of the iPhone SE matched the iPhone X, I would have preferred the iPhone SE (or iPhone SEX). Basically if the iPhone SE was just a smaller iPhone X with the same cameras and design. I would pay the same price if Apple needed a reason to build one.

I would pay the same price too. For me I thought it was form factor, same size as the 7. Didn’t consider how an edge to edge screen would affect navigation and didn’t consider a medium size protective case.

OP here; thanks for all the comments and interesting discussion. Traded my 7 Plus for an X and really like it. Face ID has been essentially instant for me--just touch the screen to wake and swipe immediately. It took me about two days to quit looking for the home button, but the swipe gestures are now second nature. The Notch is odd but not a deal-breaker. I am running with True Tone on, and actually like the warmer screen. My work 7 looks blue by comparison. And I REALLY like the camera.

Yeah.. ^ I’m where you are. So much changed on X.. lots to get used to.. but I’m getting there.. Just goes to show you how integrated these devices are into our lives and how unique each of our experiences are with them. For me - the major “killer changes” for me are in the area of dictation. First the damned dictation button is located far bottom right now out of reach of my left thumb in one-hand use. UGGGH!! Second - after your dictation is done the dictation microphone waveform window doesn’t auto-disappear after you’ve clicked on the mic icon to stop recording - and return you to the typewriter. You have to click the keyboard icon to get your keyboard back.. and again - far right of screen. So - in one fell swoop iPhone X and iOS 11 have completely upended my entire interaction process with my phone. Uggh.

I have the same experience as you. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus, to the x, very happy with it in all respects. FaceTime to me is almost instantaneous.

I'm really liking mine so far. I've really wanted a larger screen but the plus size was just a bit too big to really be comfortable. I got used to it but this just felt right and I don't feel I lose all that much on the screen in my day to day use. I thought the cropping on videos would bother me but I'm really not doing any critical viewing on my phone so it doesn't bother me that much and the size improvement is huge so it's a tradeoff I'm more than happy to make.

Having the video fill the screen is really engaging and I don't mind the notch and I do appreciate how they use it. Like if I'm navigating and looking at music the left tab becomes a button to return back to navigation. On video that is way out at the edge so I really don't notice it much. So again this is a tradeoff I really like.

Face ID has been great but it does struggle to recognize me without glasses so I'm trying out one face ID with and one without and that seems to be working well so far and overall it is really convenient especially for apps. It's so natural just to open an app and have the password happen automatically. This seems like a real game changer but I am a bit creeped out about the fact that this thing probably has really high powered cameras scanning my home and analyzing the data to see if I'm looking at it but it's almost to the point where there isn't too much we can do and I should just enjoy the phone.

When I add it all up I really do think it's the best phone I ever used it's just really natural to use with face ID, I like the gestures and interface, I really like the size which feels right to me, the screen is great and wireless charging is nice. I have the grey I really like the look and it feels great in the hand with a good amount of grip. Seems like a great phone so far I know I'm really enjoying it.
