I love my BlackBook. Its not a case of *still* loving her (yes, my BlackBook is a she, got a problem with that?), I have loved her from the second I opened the box, and I will love her until she goes back in the box and goes to the great attic storage space in the sky.

I've made her mine too. The Apple logo glows green with an acetate film, there is a sticker of one of my favourite bands across her lid. I've even had a go at hacking Leopard with Magnifique so that her GUI is as personalised as her shell.

And even though I know one day she will be slow and buggy, with her hard drive bloated and her memory having leakage problems, she will still be my favourite laptop. My last of the BlackBooks. So there.

I'm using my friends Black MacBook right now and man am I glad that I waited for the aluminum one.

Noob question

Sorry about this noob question, but I need to get my facts straight- as far as upgrading goes, can you upgrade the HD and RAM of a blackbook with these specs?:

Apple MacBook (Black)
2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
120GB disk drive
Bluetooth
Airport wireless
Intel 950 GMA graphics

Machine is under AppleCare for a few more months. Asking $625 or best offer. Comes with neoprene incase sleeve and 10.5 Leopard.

I'm asking because I'm considering buying this blackbook from craigslist, but I'm not sure if it's worth it if it can't be upgraded (in some capacity) down the road. What do you guys think?

The only thing I'd worry about would be the graphics. The GMA 950 chip is a joke. If your not doing much graphics wise though, then I say go for it. You could probably talk him down quite a bit.

How much do you think the machine is actually worth in fair condition given the specs?

Honestly, I really don't know. I don't know how to price used Macs because I've only bought them new. I just know that a lot of people need money right now and are willing to take considerably less for things these days.

I love mine too. The funny thing is- I had no intention of ever buying mine. I went to Best Buy with the intention of getting the middle white one. I told the clerk to go get me the 2.4 white and he came back with a black one. I told him again I wanted the white one. He said, "Well, this one is an open box. You can have it for $50 more if you want it. I ran diagnostics on it and it's fine." SOLD. You don't say no to black finish and a 250 gig hard drive for that price.

It's been awesome for the last year. I've abused her (dropped four times and still flawless) but also babied her with Mr Clean Magic Eraser and iKlear. She looks every bit as good as the day I bought her. I plan on keeping her for at least another 3 years or until Apple wises up and makes durable polycarbonate laptops again. Carbon fiber would be even better.

i miss mine

After a little over a year with it a drunk friend spilt some jim beam on it:( and now it wont turn on so i broke down and bought a 2.4 alum its nice the graphics are nice but if the offered a blackbook with the same specs i would have bought it instead

Despite the fact that I have an aluminium Macbook, I really like the black Macbook and how it's mattified. Much better than the cringing, shiny polycarbonate of the white Macbook - I can't stand shiny notebooks! On a related note, I'm not too fond of shiny screens either, but it's a sacrifice I had to make when I bought my Macbook. Anyone know where I can get anti glare film for the aluminium Macbook in the UK?

Anywho I'm digressing. Before the aluminium Macbook was announced, and even afterwards, I was looking into buying a black Macbook, but found they weren't widely available, or priced appealingly. In my opinion, I think Apple should have kept the black Macbook on their product line, kitted out with the new 9400M graphics. Had they have done that, I would have seriously considered buying it instead of an aluminium Macbook, due to the amount of money I would save.

i bought a MBP 2.66 a few months ago, but cant seem to be willing to sell my old trusty Blackbook. Its a 2.0 Ghz, 2GB RAM, 7500 rpm HDD, GMA 950 graphics.
How would it work as a mediacenter?

I just bought a Black Book. 2.4Ghz, 250 GB, 4GB Ram... £650 off eBay.

It's boxed and in really good condition. I already have the top spec current iMac... (see sig) And needed something for Internet, photo editing, music while out and about... Fits the bill perfectly.

I'm rather jealous. I wish my Macbook was black!
