I wish, the only PowerPC Machine I use daily for " work " is when I'm on the run, I got a 500mzh Pismo, 1gb of ram, SSD hard drive ( yes, they will take them ), brand new battery, 10.4, I use it almost every day.

Yeah, those single processor G5's really show their age when compared to the dual/quads. Off subject, are you a former 1st Infantry Division member? I'm guessing because of your username.

Nope, just a redhead. Wish I had a dual or a quad, but no sense in spending money on it now...

I use a single G5 1.8 Tower as my main machine. I have an expensive PCI soundcard that I use with Logic Pro 8 that I do a lot of home recording with. I can't afford to replace it and probably won't be able to for some years. I wish I could, but it's just not in the cards. The machine is fine for basic browsing and music, but comes to a crawl with even basic iPhoto browsing/editing.

I bought a single 1.8 a few years ago used when the fastest machine in my universe was a G5 iMac 2.0ghz with 1.5 gigs of ram.

I was completely shocked that the single 1.8 tower was that much slower than the iMac.

I sold it and climbed up the ladder to owning several quads, 2.3 dual core etc.

Only have a tricked out 1.67ghz Powerbook DL HR now. But too insecure to ever be without a PPC machine.

I used my eMac . 1ghz 513 ram leopard as my main machine for about 6 months . I paid £10 for it and upgraded the hard drive and installed the ram ( both free as I already had those parts) .
It was okay for basic things but didn't stand a chance with netfix . Trying to sell it now to fund a mac mini ( intel ) or a apple tv .

It been a good machine to me tho worth £80 apparently

What gen mac mini are you looking at?

I wish 10.5 Leopard got the kind of application support that Windows XP gets. PPCs are still fast enough for many people including myself, however its hard to find software now-adays written for 10.4-10.5

There's just not enough market for it. I'm sure if more people used it, more developers would be willing to write for it. Right now, Windows XP still has 46% marketshare. OSX 10.5 has 0.86%. It's just not worth it for developers to put the time and money into it. It is a shame though. I agree, PPC is still fast enough for a lot of people.

I bought a HP with pretty sweet specs and a couple of weeks later the PPC's started rolling in again and I had to try them out for nostalgia. I ended up using my Power Mac G5 (Dual 2GHz, 5GB RAM and I can never remember the graphics card) much more than my new HP.

Here are my machines:

Family use / paying bills / gaming / etc / wife's machine:
2011 MBP - i5 2.4 ghz - 4gb RAM - 250gb hdd
(the only way to get her to switch was to give her the MBP)

My daily use machine:
1st generation iPad - wifi - 16gb

Son's machine:
G4 iBook - 1.33 ghz - 1.25gb RAM - 40gb hdd - OSX Leopard
(he plays runescape, so he uses his sister's machine a lot)

Daughter's machine
HP G71 - C2D 2.8 ghz - 4gb RAM - 320gb hdd - Windows 7
(this and my media center are the only vestiges from the windows world)

Media Center
C2D quad 3.2 ghz - 8gb RAM - 4tb hdds - 3x hauppauge HVR-1600 hybrid tuners
(unlikely I will be able to afford to replace this with a Mac, as the hardware is cost prohibitive)

We use a 3rd generation 32gb iPod touch to control the apple TV, and play games and stuff.

Ppc!!!

Hi! I have a (gulp) 700MHz iMac G4, maxed specs- 1GB RAM, 160GB HD, etc. I use it as my main machine, both with iLife and iWork '09. Yes, I run an unsupported Leopard installation- it runs great! Flash is the only thing that kills it though, but MacTubes helps a ton.

PPC Macs may be outdated, but many groups are here to keep them supported and loved by all!

;):D:apple:,

I use a dual 1.25GHz MDD G4 everyday to manage my online business and my life. I run Photoshop CS4 to create advertising and packaging for my business. I play WoW on a free private server when I need to blow off steam. I upgraded the GPU to an ATI 9700 Pro.

Once I can get a dual-core G5 for under $250 I'll upgrade!

Who uses their PPC mac as their main machine?

Does not compute. This isn't a what are your computers thread. You're all on Intel and nearly all Windows, also states your G4 hardly gets used since he uses the Intel PC.

who is all on windows? I do not own a windows computer at all, i have an intel imac and a g4 powerbook 1.33/512 that i use daily. mom has an intel mac mini. told her when her last windows computer died that if she didn't buy an apple i will no longer fix the system when it quits. :apple: rules

Why did you think that post was directed towards you?

Anyway, my 2ghz DC is my current main desktop and it does pretty much everything I need it to do.

actually, depending on what apps you use, Windows can be a lot better, much, much better driver support.. esp for videocards...

just saying.

let me clarify, i use OSX as my main OS, but for example, Ive just bought Diablo3 for a bit of R&R (dont ask, the wife is on me about it too :D) anyways, ive run it in OSX and ive run it in W7. much, much smoother in W7..

productivity for me though OSX all the way.. and sticking with SL, as lion has nothing i like :D

My main machine is a g4 tower with a 22inch cinema display and pro mouse with white keyboard.
the specs are
10.4.11 Tiger
400mhz processor
20gb hardrive
1.38gb ram

this machine has served me well and I'm getting a g6 this summer so this one will just be enjoying retirement as a media streamer via airport card like my imac g3.

Yep - Although I have an i7 MacBook Pro I hate using laptops so that's a work day machine in the office, the PM is my main/most used machine at home.

The MacBook C2D is my permanently TV connected media server running PS3MediaServer and iPlayer 24/7.

Me - Quadro FX4500, ATTO ePCI UL5D, internal RAID 1 for operating system, external RAID 5 tower for data, 10 GB RAM, external FireWire DVD writer, FireWire 2 TB storage drive for photos, FireWire Wacom tablet, an USB floppy drive and an ADB Kennisgton TurboMouse along with a color photo printer, scanner and a full stereo system for sound connected thru an USB iMic...

Wow, that's a setup! What do you use it for?
