this is irrelivent but im cerious how old r u?

And how old are you if you don't mind?

I was once into the impression that once I get an iMac, I would be moving from my quad.

I was mistaken, I conditionally bought it from my workplace but after a week, it lies idle. The fun is not there. My quad is still both a beast and a beauty to behold.

My intel mac mini is idle. I got an iMac G5 for my office work, basically emails and documents.

Wait. I'm sorry if I'm being "zen"-like, but the quality of posts you make are that of someone at least ten years younger than that. Don't you notice that half of your posts should have red lines under them while you are typing? They aren't lying to you. Unless English isn't your first language, I'd suggest proofreading and Googling for an answer before posting a redundant thread. This PPC forum seems to have had a bum-rush of preteens lately.

anyways to get back on topic i will be using a PPC mac as my main computer once i get my MDD G4 i bought right now i use my eMac. Once the MDD comes the eMac will be my secondary machine and i will retire my AMD Desktop to a Ubuntu system hooked to my TV and used as a media center of some sorts.

Probably going to get shot down for this but there is no issue with intel macs, PPC may be preferred because of the unique hardware but if we're talking reliability I've had quite a few Intels now (iMac and two MB/MBP) and they all run faultlessly - iMac and MB now getting on a bit... The iMac G5 was certainly not immune to problems.

I know I'll get ripped for this and I love my PM (and my old G4 Mini was a true soldier, left on 24x7 until my old MB replaced it as my media server) but I do get a bit miffed at people attacking the Intel for no good reason, yes it's basically a PC in a fancy case (I agree with that) but the quality, reliability and speed are all very much still there IMO and so far I'm thinking Mountain Lion is the best O/S yet released.

true but do u find it harder to get programs on Tiger? i couldnt even get TenFourFox to launch on Tiger and Trillian installed but wouldn't launch either

TenFourFox is the most recent app I have installed for Tiger. Other than that, all of the apps I need for it, I downloaded before even Leopard was released. :)

I like intel and PowePC , I will be getting a 2012 iMac when they are released and I am also looking for a Powerbook and an iMac G4.I think MAC OS X Snow Leopard is the best but Mountain Lion isn't too bad either.

id love in the future to get a intel mac (that is when the PPC platform completely dies and no apps at all will work on it anymore) however i highly doubt ill get a Mac Pro way too much and i also highly doubt ill buy a brand new mac from Apple. I did use my laptop as a Leopard Hackintosh but getting apps for Leopard for Intel macs is nearly as hard as finding PPC apps as the programs i would use on a Intel mac require SL or higher to use them.

What apps are you looking for?

well Trillian now requires SL or higher Trillian was said it only worked on Intel and SL from the get go i was surprised to find it actually worked on PPC iLife 11 require SL or newer so does VirtualBox infact even Google Chrome wont work on Intel Leo atleast not for me it didnt

Hi guru's!

Gotta question!

Can I use a PPC g5 to setup a file server to use as a time machine backup place for my iMac and I need to be able to access files outside of my house (network).

Is it easy to setup?

Thx,
mike

I been using a G5 as a main machine ! Here is a pic :)

I made a Lion Hackintosh, I loved it . #@D$# furnace hot nvidia card killed it. It did get me the desire to purchase a mbp mainly because I liked lion and I got sick of buying intel laptops every 2 years due to Hardware failures..but now that apple went back to NVIDIA i dont know that I want to do that. its like no one learns from their experience....I wish HP and Apple had sued them out of business.

All 3 are Apple G4 Cubes, one is stock and two have upgraded CPU's and video, plus SSD's.
Just purchased a G4 Cube. D: I made a thread about when I guess I shouldn't have done, I guess it'll be good to go on OS X Tiger now and again :)

Morning!

I love my PowerPC's.

I have a G5 iMac 1.8 (17" 1.5GB RAM) that's on top of the fridge at my wife's preschool. It displays pictures from her school and I update it daily-ish. It also serves out videos of my daughter that we can watch wirelessly on my iPad. My time machine hard drive is also plugged into it via USB and all mac's in the house back up to it wirelessly.

I also have a G4 iMac 1.25 (17" 2GB RAM) that is my wifes main preschool and teacher computer.

Lastly I have a G4 1.42 iBook at home (preschool and home are on the same property but different buildings). The iBook has 1.5GB RAM. We use it for the occasional DVD burn or copy avi's to a thumbdrive for play in our Phlips Soundbar.

All the machines work great and I'll use them forever.

Have an airprint printer at the school we all print to as well.

I do

Machine PPC 2.0 dual, bought in August of 2004, running Leopard 10.5. Today I am taking it down and redoing it to factory spec's with 10.5. Does what I need it to, but video is getting slow and breaking up. Looking at a mac laptop in January, this way all bugs with Mountain Lion should be worked out and any issues with retina displays attended to.

I have a G5 PPC that I am trying to sell/trade off for something smaller like a mac mini to use as a file server with less power consumption!

I'm currently using the rig in my signature as my main machine, coupled with an ASUS X72JR laptop for my windows needs. Works pretty damn well, if i might add. I wouldn't say no to a cpu upgrade if I found one cheap, but the old 867 does the job well. Might OC it though. If I can work up the courage, that is.
