Not going to upgrade, switching

I have been an iPhone customer since the first gen but the phone is not my religion. AT&T fleeced me because I have had no real alternatives in the market: plan wise or phone wise, but now I do.

Hello sprint, hello evo, hello me saving $200/month by switch cell carriers and yes cell phones.

Apple, you also screwed up. You cud have decided at the inception not to play the evil exclusivity game for only short term profits. I will pay you back by spending my dollars elsewhere for a while.

Since the upgrade will be pretty cheap after subtracting what I'll get for my 3GS 32GB UL/JB, I can't really see any reason not to upgrade. And with a faster processor, video chat, potentially much-improved reception, and a scratch-resistant case, I can see lots to like in it.

How many phones do you have on your plan that you are going to save $200/month?

I sold my girlfriends iPhone 3g for $300 and sold my 3gs for $550. We both have full upgrades so if the new iPhone's are $200 a piece then we made $450 to upgrade to the new iPhone, sounds like a sweet deal to me haha.

But either way yes we both are upgrading to the new iPhone. It really bothered me on the occasions I used her 3g it was so slow, I couldn't handle it so I am making her upgrade. She loves apple anyway so she was all for it haha.

Hard to say.

Since I got iPad my 3GS has become more of just a phone and iPod. Can't say at this point.

Wow... cheap and clunky huh. I laugh at that statement. To each his own I say but you think a phone with a shiny plastic back looks better than aluminum and glass? Yeah, why have the refinements of a BMW when you can buy a used pinto.

Jesus, spot the hypocrite.

Why when a new model comes out is there always someone who has to slate the outgoing model, a product they probably loved prior to the unveiling of the new device.

For the record, I too am not impressed with the design of the new iPhone. I am impressed that it's made from aluminium and glass, but while the iPhone 3G and 3Gs have "shiny plastic" back, the actual overall look of the 3G/3Gs is nicer.

And, sorry, I like my chrome bezel.

Wow, never heard that gag before ...

I wasn't trying to be funny. I thought it was a less confrontational way of pointing out that "Jesus" is not a meaningless oath and that many people might be offended by your use of it. But since your sarcasm makes it clear that you cannot take a hint, let me be clear: you should consider other people's feelings before you type.

I'm not sure yet if I'll be upgrading. Currently I have the iPhone 3G and my contract will be up in mid September. If the iPhone goes to Verizon, then yes, I will be switching and upgrading. If the iPhone isn't announced on Verizon, then I'll wait until the end of my contract to decide.

Possibly, the only thing making me not want to is that I've just received my full back ans front Bodyguarz protection from the states, it cost me £21 (about $35) and took 2 weeks for me to receive it, it also took me about 2 hours to install it perfectly, now the 1 spare one that I have won't fit the new 4G and I'll have to shell out again and wait another 2 weeks if I want a Bodyguardz for the 4G, in the meantime it will have no protection on it as I'm guessing none of the 3GS cases I have will fit it, it's just going to be a lot of messing about

I am also on the fence. I will make a final decision based on the software and hardware package, which would have to be substantial in order for me to take the plunge. My attitude is definitely wait and see.

Ditto on this. I still have a 3G, which, frankly, is more than sufficient for my needs and use. Will I upgrade when the new phone becomes available? Probably, but not right away. May wait until fall just to see if any initial issues are worked out. :)

The 3G IMO is all anyone would ever need. The 3GS is probably the best buy although it's not needed.

Here's the best way to look at it foranyone that is confused.

3G = Honda Accord. Great daily driver, comfortable, wouldn't mind putting the miles on it.

3GS = Honda Accord V6 with leather & navi. Great daily driver but with better performance & a few little extra features.

iPhone 4G = Bugatti Veyron. Something you'd keep in the garage & sparingly use. Not for daily use.

I can't upgrade as I have a 3GS, but I wouldn't anyways. Sprint's superior service (in my area, its 100x better than AT&Ts shotty service that drops most of my calls) and, IMO, better phone drew me in that direction. No more iPhone for me. :D

im a sucker for apple products so as soon as it is on pay as you go i will be getting it. i bought a 3GS on pay as you go only last August :|

lol I bought my 3GS on pay and go about 3 months ago, just before the 4G leak

Same, the only way I'm upgrading is if somehow I get upgrade eligibility, and I can get $500 or more for my 32gb 3GS on eBay.

I skipped the 3GS (eligible 7/30/10). But I'm undecided about upgrading. A month ago, after I dropped my 3G, Wi-Fi wasn't working, and my ringer switch wasn't working. And my Wi-Fi was unusable for 2 weeks (had to be within 10 feet). At this point, I was thinking I would need to upgrade this summer.

Since it is working again, I'm probably going to try to wait until the phone gives out. I "hope" my order of the iPad 3G will hold off my upgrade lust.
