Oh hell no, the screen size was one of the deciding factors for getting the Pro, I couldn't go back to a small one now. there's other things too though, like I always found keyboards for the 9.7 inch devices to be a bit cramped, that's not an issue with iPad Pro keyboards.

It's just like when I, and many others I'd guess, made the move to the 5.5 inch iPhone. It's because we wanted more screen real estate. Smaller ones just feel too small to me now. Though I do have hands like pit shovels :D

The larger screen is the big bonus for me. It enables me to work without being cramped up. Somehow the split screen on the smaller iPads does not appeal at all. Nor is the use of Logic remote really easy in the smaller screen.

The pencil on the large screen feels nice, on a smaller screen I wonder if it will feel as natural a "palette ". For some it will, but not for me.

The weight and handling of the iPP are no problem for me. So it would have to be one heck of a marketing campaign to change my mind

Also, I think it will be difficult to squeeze the tech into the smaller device. Eg. 4 speakers, battery to power the screen and the rest. Everything will get more compact eventually, but we will have to wait and see what they can achieve at this point in time

I often found that with split screen too, the smaller devices just didn't have enough space for me to maximise my use of it.

But with the iPad Pro, it's so much better. You can tell Apple designed it with the iPad Pro in mind. I've just been sat on the sofa, Smart Keyboard attached to the Pro with it sitting on my lap. Split view fired up with Notability on one side where the wife had used the Pencil to write down some notes for a review I was doing. And Pages on the other side of the split for typing it all up. Then I submitted it along with the photos from my iCloud library. Ah, I just love it, I'm far more productive on this than any other iPad I've ever owned. Wish Apple had released the iPad Pro years ago.

(Incidentally for anyone who might not know. All of the keyboard shortcuts I use in Pages for the Mac, work on the iPad Pro with the Smart keyboard, and I'd guess all hardware keyboards, as well. Even though none of them are listed when you hold the button on the keyboard to get a list of shortcuts. I bet there's tons of shortcuts for various apps that work and just haven't been discussed.)

Yes, the keyboard shortcuts work on Bluetooth keyboards. The function key works to switch keyboard languages, volume control works, you can switch apps with command+tab, can go back to the home screen with command+H, etc. etc. Before iOS 9, I had to reach and tap the screen all the time but ow it's only once every few minutes.

Well this is definitely very very(I mean VERY) depressing and bad to hear/know that all of the posters on here in this thread said that they will NEVER ever go back to the 9.7 inch iPad. :( :(

Makes me think on what will happen to the 9.7 inch iPads in the future????...

I really hope the 9.7 inch iPads won't become the new Mini!!!!

In all fairness though, I doubt if many of us on here who are saying that represent your average punter at large ;) I don't think either of the smaller iPads have anything to worry about any time soon.

The question that was asked is "Who will sell 12.9" iPad Pro to buy the new 9.7"?" Ask, "How many people have returned or didn't buy the 12.9 because you were waiting for a 9.7 with Pencil support?" and you'll get a very different answer.

Who would go back to the 9.7" iPad?

[doublepost=1457383793][/doublepost]Well I know who will be using the 9.7" iPad. Anyone who doesn't need, or use the extra size of the iPP. My wife is one. Her iPad air2 meets all her needs. And for her it is the ideal size for what she does with it. Horses for the right courses.

I applaud Apple for offering us the choice.

Ain't that the truth, my wife's a wee short person, well, she's probably about average to be fair but she's short compared to me. The Mini is just right for her, she looks like a wee girl playing with a big boys tablet when she holds my iPad Pro, she even found my old Air 2 too big for comfort.

She does like what it does, but unless they put it all in a 7.9inch form factor she'd never have one. She's just too used to the 7.9inch size. *Edit* I just re-read that and had a chuckle to myself, I am of course referring to the iPad Mini size there :D

This. How you phrase a question will bias the type of answers you get.

For the record, I don't have a Pro, and am waiting for this rumored 9.7" upgrade. Because what I do want is an iPad Air + Pencil support.

Today I purchased a second iPad Pro as sold my iPad Air 2. My iPhone 6s plus does all I require out and about.

Now my partner and I have nice large screens to watch HD movies on planes and holiday trips.

If you require a smaller screen keep the Pro and update to a Plus iPhone.

I agree on this. I think many people didn't buy the iPad Pro because it's too big, pricey, unhandy or whatever.
Those who bought the 12.9" wanted the bigger size and won't probably go back for a smaller screen.

I had a mini first before I got the pro and I didn't find the pro too big. When I look at my mini now, it feels really really small now and makes me wonder how I managed to read/watch something on it without feeling cramped. I know that a mini is much smaller than the air size, but I'm never going back to a smaller screen than the current pro.

Edit: typo

I wouldn't look at it like that. People here for the most part who bought the iPP knew what they'd be getting and bought it for the larger size, split screen when applicable, and use with the Pencil. While it is heavier than other devices in the line up, for me it simply doesn't matter as I use it on a desk/table or while on sofa/bed. If I needed to hold and use while carrying it around, the weight would probably have held me back from buying the iPP and waiting for something like the next version that was smaller. It's really all about your main intended use.

BTW after having my iPP since beginning of January (replaced my iPad2), I'm in the same camp of won't give it up. Love the larger size, love my Pencil and am really liking the split screen for the apps that currently support it. Looking forward to more. Nice you can adjust the view size of the split window and the iPP is large enough to easily share the screen.
[doublepost=1457545265][/doublepost]Oh and lest I forget, it's a great size for watching movies on!

Why is it depressing? We have three choices in size when picking an iPad.

People who chose the iPad Pro are happy with it. But that doesn't mean the 9.7" is any less popular or it is in danger of going away.

Whatever size works best for each of us.

What's depressing about that?...the answer is nada.
