Like a lot of other people I logged in to Macrumors at 5pm on Tuesday (UK time) hoping for news on a new MB or MBP.

I am now quite dishearted, am going to give it to the end of Feb and then buy a base MBP with 250GB drive or perhaps may be go for a Dell. I am a new MAC user with a mini looking for a replacement for my ageing XP laptop.

I too am giving it 4 more weeks. If there is no MBP at that time, I will be buying a Dell XPS. I don't mind paying some premium for Apple products, but when I can get an XPS with the same (or better) specs as a MBP for roughly $700 less (comparing to a base MBP -- the difference at the high end is even larger), I have to reconsider my options. Sure, at the start of a processor cycle Apple's laptops can be very competitive in terms of price, but Dell is discounting their XPS lineup by $500+ ahead of Penryn, while Apple has not budged. That's just plain wrong on Apple's part. That said, if the new Penryn MBPs came out at the same time as Penryn Dell's, I would not hesitate to pay a few hundred dollars more for a MBP.

I got one two weeks before the keynote, just in case there was an update. I'm kinda happy that there wasn't, it would've been a hassle to drive to the Apple store, pay the restocking fee, get home and then transfer all the data.

And btw the MPB case looks is very outdated and old. The new Dell XPS M1530 however has a pretty modern and slick looking design.

Are you serious? In my opinion, the Dell is veeeery ugly. In my opinion, of course. It’s just not as sleek as the MacBooks. Only Apple can do that, I guess. I don’t know, but I’ve not found any nice looking PC laptop so far.

Plus, you can’t run OS X on that machine. That’s worth more than everything else, at least for me. I can’t stand Windows anymore. Linux is cool, but, to be honest, I don’t want a system as Linux to rely on.

Ok, this could be an endless discussion. To add something relevant: I’m going to wait till the end of the month and then I’ll either buy a MacBook Pro or an Air. I’d really like to see a magnetic latch and a new keyboard on the MacBook Pro. I don’t want a complete case redesign, because I love the Aluminium case, but some little improvements besides the internal hardware would be great.

free ipod

if u already have a laptop.
and u dont mind waiting for a revision.
and u you wouldnt mind a free ipod.
i would just wait until the summer.
thats when theyll restart their free ipod and printer with mac purchase.
u can get a free ipod nano or pay the difference for a ipod classic or touch.
judging from what they've done before.

if you don't need a new MBP right now, i would just wait until May-June when Apple holds the WWDC. That is the most likely time when Apple will release a major revision to the MacBook Pro since it coincides with Intel's Montevina platform release in May. Besides, educational buyers can get a free iPod nano at the same time.
