just canceled my 11" order with apple. i guess i was over excited...still awaiting CC credit. Im not giving up on it, need to see it at apple store in person for final decision. My thought process in the last hour:

1) mac mall is way cheaper (tax with apple is 110 alone for me, thats like two ipod shuffles lol)
2) the $999 price quickly fades away when you put in decent ram and HDD
3) the bezel pissed me off. its absurd, looks very cheap.
4) I have not even been able to test it yet, not enough info on it.
5) the 27" imacs are very appealing to me.
6) no sd card slot, backlight keyboard, firewire, usb 3, etc
7) hell, I need to sell my MBP anyway before I can make a decision

Ah mann don't take the wind outta his sail :)

Wish mine was coming tomorrow I gotta wait a week!!!!!
I toyed with walking into the Natick Apple Store today or tomorrow and buying the stock model, but I too will be anxiously waiting until next week as well, for my BTO 13 incher. And today, I will have to watch all of those unboxing pic threads here on Macrumors. :(

Okay, after many hours spent reading various forum posts, reviews and such, I finally bit the bullet and ordered the fully spec'd 11.6 with 1.6GHz, 128GB and 4GB. I have been budgeting specifically for a new Air this year and I guess this is what I'm gonna get.

The full-size keyboard was the kicker. I can live with a slightly smaller vertical screen rez, but I could not have dealt with a smaller keyboard.

Speaking of which, I am very concerned about the loss of the back-lit keys - I like to write in my spare time, usually at night with very little background illumination - and even though I am a pretty okay typist, I still seem to look at the keyboard often, especially when editing, cutting and pasting and such. But again, this is all there is, so since I really want the smaller form factor, I will see how it goes.

I really, really wanted a smaller laptop than my current Rev B Air. (I know the Rev B isn't large compared to most laptops, but I carry it everywhere I go, all day long with the power adapter, so every little bit of size/weight reduction helps.) Also, I am hoping the battery life really is 5 hours compared to my Rev B's 3 hours. It always claims over 4 hours on boot after charge, but real world use - E-Mail, RDP'ing into customer's servers, writing novels in my spare time and surfing the web gets me no more than 3.

Here's hoping I didn't make a bad purchase.

I bought!

I woke up, looked at Engadget, saw that Macbook Air was available on Apples site already, picked the 13 inch (I'd LOVE the 11.6 but for coding its a bit too small), added a beefier processor, 4 gigs of ram, Apple care, and clicked "Buy".

anyone know if there's any chance of them being in stock at the UK apple stores? if so, i'm buying the 13" one today for the missus (trying to convince myself that i can't afford to get the 11" for myself too)

Ordered mine too! Yipeee.
MBAIR 13.3 CTO 2.13GHz 4GB 256GB Flash

Due 29th - 1st Nov in the UK, so I guess the CTOs are coming from Shanghai then. Can't wait, because it's been long enough wait for this release already!

I also ordered the 13" BTO 2.13 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 256 GB Flash
Can't wait to replace my Rev B MBA!
I wanted more RAM and a bigger SSD - and VOILA!

Only drama is the wait now!
Dispatches in 3 business days...
Delivers 28/10 - 1/11...
only drama is I leave for the US on Mon 1/11!!!!!!

PLEASE Mr Jobs!

Just realised as well - that I didn't order a USB to ethernet adaptor.
I have one here for my Rev B... but to use migration assistant to get all my data from Rev B to Rev D - I will need two USB to ethernet adaptors?!?!?!

I presume Migration Assistant will work?
Forgot Apple Care as well - but as long as the current adaptors work on the new one - I can buy an adaptor and Apple Care locally I guess.

Ordered mine just now as the Apple Store UK don't have it yet.

13.3" + 4GB RAM + 128GB SSD

I increased the RAM only because I got 14% discount through my university.

I ordered as soon as the store was up and that my local Apple Store confirmed they didn't have stock of the machines. Wanted the 4GB of RAM anyhow and figured they probably wouldn't stock BTOs. :D

Can't wait to replace my close to 2 year old Macbook unibody!

Funny says the guy who also just wasted space, but ummm, he talked about financing, I said why bother? Financing is the worst route...better of to just save up for it....

But thanks to you for contributing, deeek

I've a bonus rate ISA, which actually pays fairly well at the minute. So why would I pay up front when I keep the balance in an ISA and finance it on an interest free deal, earning interest on my capital all the while?

You didn't think your petty little post through, did you?

Jog on, little one.

Now now guys! :)

There's so much hate on this forum I've never known one as bad as this place!!

We should all be happy about the air! Who cares how it's paid for it's your problems not mine!

Anyway I've took out a mortgage to pay for mine :p

Sweet.....but I hope that you are not sorry that you did not wait for 4gb of ram.:p

probably not as I've found 2gb in the RevC more than adequate for what I do, so 4gb was only ever going to be a luxury.

my reasoning is that the combination of the flash 'hard drive' will speed things up heaps plus the higher res screen will enhance the overall experience anyways.

here's hoping I'm right

I'm gonna get one just after christmas, sucks that I only bought my MBP a month ago. Hopefully getting the 2.13Ghz 4GB 256GB SSD one! And a 27" display :D

As of this morning, not in 5th Ave. store yet

Salesman first said... after 8 AM. Then checked and said no.... sometime later today.

He didnt know which models, or how many models will be sold in the store.

I got clarified, the "microphone" on the lefty edge of both 11 and 13 inch models, labelled in the store.apple illustration, but unlabelled in the apple, com site illustration, is not a separate microphone jack, It's the actual microphone.

Congrats to all that are buying ... enjoy your new MBAs

but for me the best thing about yesterday's offering is that Apple did NOT announce anything I NEED or want ... including OSX Lion.

IMO the MBP 13 I have more than suits my needs for CS5 and web browsing.

I also consider the 13 inch MBP as the best NetBook out there

the Air has always seemed just a bit too fragile for my taste.

Earlier this year I picked up a rev.b with a 128gb ssd for $1k. I figured that I would upgrade to a new Air with a 256gb ssd when they came out later this year. Now that I have the option of doing so, I am going to pass. I just don't see a compelling reason to upgrade, even if I can recover the full $1k I paid by selling my rev.b, I don't see it worth the cost to upgrade while my MBA can still handle everything I need it to do.

Using mine now..... 11" with 128G. Bought in Apple Store in Cardiff :) First of the day for them :D
