I was completely underwhelmed with iOS 5, Apple just completely riped off Android. It's kind of ironic since Steve deemed it the year of the copycats during the ipad 2 intro.

You see that worries me (i know its paranoia) that Apple is trying too hard to hide the computer from the user. Sure it makes it all pretty and magical but thats just it. Newer generations shouldn't be growing up thinking computers are magical, they should know at least about the filesystem structure and I even think every person should have a basic knowledge of a programming language. I feel like hiding the computer from people is making them less computer literate. A majority of my friends and family don't know even HTML or how the internet works and thats a scary thought to me. Computers shouldn't be "magic".

That is ridiculous if ask me. I work in IT, but I still don't know the first thing about programming. I also don't know how my fridge works, or how that flat screen TV looks oh so pretty, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to cool my food, or watch a movie. Getting away from a file system benefits the majority, since it does them no good to be confused by it. All someone like my mom need to know is when she opens Pages, her documents will be there. It would do no good, or harm, for her to understand the file system.

In general IF Apple where to give users access to the iOS file system, it would benefit something like a whopping 2% of users, and no one else.

As an iPad user I am a bit disappointed with iOS 5, some things clearly aren't finished and there is little that befit a major OS number. Also in a way the changes really highlight that the iPad 2 is really more of an iPad 1.5.

There is only one new thing I don't like and that is tabbed browsing in the iPad version of MobileSafari. I really preferred the older checkerboard choice, in part because when I am reading a page I want to focus on that page, not be constantly reminded in all the other tabs that happen to be open.

As a dev there is a lot of great stuff in iOS 5 and I am looking forward to seeing what other devs will be able to produce in the future.

I wouldn't be disappointed. I'd say iOS 5 paves the way for at the very least an SD card slot in iPad 3. Perhaps Thunderbolt too.

iOS 5 is a signal that they're willing to develop these devices independent of traditional computers. That means they need their own ports.

I am very disappointed

because it seems that although there may be how ever many new bits n pieces, there is still the glaring omission of an ap to set up an Airport express without having to rely on an Apple or PC 'puter.

So, you're saying that the majority of users are too dumb to wrap their heads around the concept of a file system? No wonder the country is going down the toilet,we're breeding functional retards...

No, it's that a lot of stuff that excites geeks and gearheads are irrelevant to ordinary people and have nothing to do with getting the best use out of a product. This is why you don't have to be an automotive engineer in order to drive a car, or need to know how to develop photos in a darkroom with chemicals in order to use a digital camera.

Some of my "wants" are very very basic indeed.

Just looked at the HP Touchpad video on Engadgets website today.
It's the same sized device and the on-screen keyboard looks very similar indeed, apart from one very nice addition.
A small narrow row of number keys along the top of the on-screen keyboard.

A very tiny and simple thing, but something I'd like, so I don't have to tap to change to a different keyboard layout every time I wish to enter a number.

Please Apple, add a row of numbers along the top like HP have done.

It's not that their "too dumb" really, more like it doesn't matter if they understand the file system or not. They want photos? Go to the photo app. You want your documents? Open pages. That is the way of thinking for a lot of people. They'd rather it be intuitive like that, then to open up a Finder or Windows Explorer, navigate to the file, and then open it. No need to navigate except to an app in iOS, and it is simple, and effective. I have seen many people go to MS Word, and open all their word documents AFTER they've opened up the program. This is a thought process that is very common.

I mean really, understanding a file system is cool if you're a geek like you and I, but for most people, if they can just open up the app and the related files are there, they're happy. iOS gives us that.

I though it was a little bit disappointing even thought it does look awesome, i really wanted Facebook integration and a improved maps application.

Oh well, there is always iOS 6 to look forward to!

It looks like the barebones is there for Facebook integration, but since FB said no to ping, you can bet its them stopping iOS integration!
