I am! It’s the “higher end” MBA with 16gb ram and 512gb storage. I bought it for myself when it first came out last month, but haven’t opened it yet. It’s still sealed and everything!

I wrapped it up real nice and put it under my tree. Gonna open it up tomorrow and act surprised. Since I expected not to get any gifts from anyone I know, I bought myself this gift to open on Christmas.
Wow! You’re good. I would have lasted all of 5 seconds before it was opened and put through everything that I could. I don’t have your kind of willpower 🥺.

We’ll just say that it’s an early Christmas present. 😉

In fairness, I wasn't really planning to buy a MacBook (at least not right away). I just found myself suddenly needing a laptop I can use on my lap without overheating/burning my thighs. I was exposed to some who tested positive for COVID and had to telework/self-isolate in my bedroom instead of using the desktop in the living room.

My result came back negative which is probably the best Christmas present. ;)

Hmmm...does it adjust with the keyboard brightness or is it automatic?
I just checked..it dosen't adjust with the keyboard brightness control and there's no setting I can find using the control strip settings. But the setting for the "F" keys is a perfect brightness for me. Whether it's automatic or not, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this...

Well, I guess if my order sits much longer with no movement, I may cancel and just pick up one of the MBPs in the same configuration locally. One of the apple store had stock for almost an hour this morning. Thanks!

I’m so glad to hear that you are doing well! Best Christmas present ever.

If so, what is Santa bringing you?
I would advise anybody thinking of buying either of the Macs, to think again, particularly if you use the webcam a lot, it has a flickering problem, under LED spot lights, which Apple to date is ignoring and advising users with that problem to get an external webcam.....other then that, great machines

Ok, that’s it... I’m stalking Apple until I can find one for in-store pickup. I’m actually glad to hear you say that the tack pad is larger since I‘ve missed the travel with my previous MBAs.
Ha I do that! It’s probably quicker if I did a factory order but there is a weird satisfaction of finding one for store pick up

That’s just it, I placed an order, but it won’t arrive until mid-Jan if it’s not delayed. But I want it now 😫. Seriously though, if I can find in store, I’ll send back the one I originally orderEd. Still stalking... 😂.

I wasn't planning on getting one for Christmas, but the local apple store finally got a shipment of Airs in this morning so I was able to go there and grab a base space gray earlier today.

I've been lurking the local store daily for stock. They had it yesterday, and I pulled the trigger. Picked it up an hour later. 8 core, 16gb, 1Tb, space gray. Migration assistant finished via WiFi overnight and I was up and running this morning. Very nice machine. Upgrading from a late 2013 i7 retina pro model. Apple giving me $360 for the trade-in.

With the higher specs, I take it you plan on keeping the MBA for several years? Congrats on the new M1.

I have a mini 16GB/512GB on order that should ship first week of January. Replacing a 2015 MBP that is going to one of the kids to replace a 2012 MBP. My iPad Pro has just about replaced a MBP for things I need to do on the go, much easier to travel with, when travel is a thing again.

I was gonna pull the trigger on trading-in my mid-2020 i5 MBP 13” for a M1 MBP when Best Buy, Costco had discounts on them weeks ago, but I realize I still have to pay-off my credit card balance from my recent iPad Pro purchase first. So I’m looking at towards the end of next month to purchase.

I really don't need it, but wanted something portable (not iPads or MBPs) since I can't carry around my mac mini .
That’s the problem we need Apple to fix. We can’t carry around the Mac mini because it has to be plugged in to the wall (or into a UPS). And the MBA gets throttled because it gets hot, and MBP is too expensive to risk taking it anywhere.

So I’m calling for a portable Mac mini that we can carry around with a all day battery and lots of USB ports and optimal cooling. And then the Air can control the mini with no compromise on performance or comfort.

I was very interested in purchasing a M1 MacBook Air until I found out that it can only support one external display. For my needs, I need to connect two 1080p monitors for work so unfortunately looks like this won't work for me.
Does the M1 Mini support two 1080p displays? Since it doesn’t have its own screen it probably could.

In got used to the Magic Keyboard trackpad and then seeing the MBA trackpad today was a huge difference. I don't mind how big it is just not sure how I will be able to make use of it all.

Speaking of M1, the screen saver option in preferences is blank. Anyone else have this? It isn't blank on my Mac mini. Is there a way to fix this? I am on 11.1.

Edited to add: That is very weird. I tried a 5th time and it now looks like it should. Strange.
I used to have blank screensaver but notice I’m charging it. When I plugged out I saw screensavers there.
