the best deal ever

2 months ago, i bought an october 2008 17 mbp 2.5ghz 4gb ram and 320gb hdd for $580 at a trading post. you can't beat that one. I love it so much, i'll like to upgrade the hdd to 500gb and add 2gb ram to 6gb or 8gb ram. the guy at the trading post didn't know what he had in his hands and i was happy to pay $580 for it and he said that they don't deal with macs. So my advice is... Get a good machine and stick with it because you will never keep up with technology, unless you are very rich, but then it looks foolish! you didn't even got used to your 6 months old mbp and now you want to change it. And it's gonna be even harder for those that usually sell there old mbp and add some cash and get the new one.... Guess what???? the new one is CHEAPER!!!

I love my Early 2008 MBP, but that battery life and new design has got me! Mine MBP is for sale for anyone who's interesed! :)

It's a nice machine, but they look ancient compared to the new MBPs. Ugly latch, thicker, not as sturdy, and the keys look very old and PC-like.

Again, nice machine, but the new MBPs are a hell of a lot nicer.

Hey!

Do you have the new ones?

these threads designed to make the owners of older tech feel better always crack me up. I guess this kind of thinking saves ya money though, so why not. :)

Yes, "old tech" Not like my processor is in the 1s. The new mbps have ddr3 and a dif vid card thats it. I think its funny that uni owners defend their argument with "but its fine when i stay inside in the dark away from the windows"

I'm not as fortunate as you guys, as yet to own a macbook pro but I love the old design, seeing as it's roughly the same as my powerbook.

I'm glad. See specs in my signature. And as an extra bonus I don't have a ticking gpu time-bomb in mine! :D

(Back in May of '07 when I bought mine I was a bit pissed when the new gpu was introduced about a month later...now I'm just damn glad I got mine when I did!)

I have the classic mbp 2.5 ghz with 512 vram and I love it. I will not be upgrading for a few more years

what trading post? wow amazing deal

I have the classic Macbook Pro (MacbookPro4,1), 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, Matte display, and all around awesome. I love the laptop. I have had it since May of 2008, and can't see myself replacing it for at least another year despite my love for getting the latest Mac.

I know

what trading post? wow amazing deal

in central NJ. I've abandon my PC desktop just because of this MBP, It can do anything i throw at it and most of the time, even better than the desktop.

Still loving mine (see specs below). I have no idea how many more MBP models Apple will come out with before I get a new one

I love my classic MBP. and by classic I mean core duo classic. I just wish I had multi-touch... also wish I had the improved vents in the back for cooler temps and firewire 800.

However, I love having USB ports on both sides, silver keys, and for some reason, I really prefer the look of the power button on the classics.

Will use this til it dies... hopefully not for a long time

I just bought the previous generation ('08) MBP refurbished off the Apple store for $1,350. Hell of a good price for a computer that, IMO, is better than the newly released MBP. Express Card slot and removable battery FTW.

I'm glad that I have a unibody with an ExpressCard slot.

I had a "classic" machine before but it warped and the base was uneven, so that didn't work out very well for me.

I must say I would like to have had the first gen of the uMBP. The case and design of the uMBP is just amazing. But I'm quite chuffed with my classic 2.2ghz MBP. Matte screen, expresscard, nicer keyboard (but thats a personal thing), firewire 400 and 800 and a big one for me. DVI!

I still adore my classic MBP, I got it just after the penryn upgrade and the multi-toush with 3 fingers was implemented. I don;t have a doubt in my mind that I will keep this one for a while. (In fact, I've set myself to the mindset that I will not buy a new MBP until this one dies or Apple introduces one with 6+ hours of battery & BluRay & usb 3.0, so I can pretty much guarantee that I won;t be getting a new one until at least 2011)
I love the classic keys much more over the scrabble square keys.

All the other threads are full of unibody people crying about the new revisions. I'd just like to say I'm still glad I got my MBP a month before the Unis came out. I still have my DVI(very useful and widely used), express slot(tons of options, SSD, eSata, card readers, etc.), the lovely silver keys, the glossy screen that is glossy and not mirror like, and Firewire 400-800. Anyone else feels this way? Anybody going to get a classic instead of a new uni? The only thing I envy slightly is the track pad. I's still a little on the fence about the trackpad. I like how big it is, which makes it easier for gestures. But I dont use tap to click ever and I hate how the new ones press click(i love my clicker button:D). Thoughts, rants? Anyone else think the classics were the sweet spot?

SAME HERE!!!!

Bought mine at the Apple Store a month or so ago. Though mine is a uni with the Black Keys, I appreciate the user replaceable battery.

The new Track Pad ROCKS !!!!!!!

Now that I am used to the new Track Pad I have one wish .........

APPLE --- Please make a Keyboard for my iMac with that Track Pad BUILT IN !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a new logic board I bought coming this week for my mid-2007 MBP and I'm perfectly happy with it. I will say I want the unibody though.

I don't want the glass screen, but if Apple upped the resolution to 1680x1050 (the same as my 5-year old Inspiron 6000 (still running strong on its original motherboard APPLE!)) I would probably switch to a glass screen.

Otherwise I'd really like to have the trackpad, built-in battery and easily changeable HD. I do use my expresscard slot, but only for an SD card reader, but I like having the option open.

I think the next time I get a new notebook, I'll go for the 17" since it's not that much of a size difference, but in that case I'm holding off for quad-core next year.

I've had a 15" 2.4GHz MBP since late 2007, which has worked very well until a couple weeks ago when I ran into the dreaded Nvidia 8600m problem right in the middle of an important deadline. Apple fixed it and I had it back within about 5 days, and now it's virtually perfect. They even replaced the keyboard and top case for some reason, but I'm not complaining. The computer is darn near perfect now aside from two or three little bends or dings in the case. I love it for the LED-lit matte screen and am satisfied with its performance (I put 4GB of RAM and a 250GB HD in it a while back) as my every day work computer.

So, since Apple has introduced the latest round of MBP revisions (and I always lust for the newest and best for some reason), I am so tempted to sell it and upgrade, yet I can't justify only a small increase in processor speed and the loss of a nice matte screen in favor of a "mirror." Darn it. :)

I got my Core Duo MacBook replaced by Apple with a Penryn 2.4 GHZ MacBook Pro right when the Penryns came out. I prefer the classic MacBook Pros a hell of a lot more than the unibody MacBook Pros.

While I think the Unibody MacBooks are better than the plastic MacBooks, I think the Classic MacBook Pros are better than the Unibody MacBook Pros.

The flawless keyboard, the non-glass rim, ports on both sides, Dual-Link DVI without a clunky adapter, FW 400/800, better looking speakers/power button, expresscard slot, replaceable battery, audio in-out are separate ports (I have a mic/headphone combo that uses both the audio in-out ports), the fact that the whole case is one color.

The Unibodys are good and all, but they just look like a cheap PC laptop to me. The only thing that I would really want in the classic MacBook Pros is a magnetic latch.

The fact that Apple has made the 8600M GT compatible with OpenCL has basically sealed the fact that my Classic MacBook Pro will not be replaced for another 3-4 years, hopefully by then they come out with a redesign that is innovative.

Long live the classic MacBook Pro!!!

have a classic macbook 15" released right before the unibodies came out. i prefer it way more after having compared ub and classic MBP layouts AND i have a matte screen which is way more l337 than the glossy/ glass screen, imo. i aint getting on that bandwagon, no sir.
