do they really? I thought they would stay open?

This is all new to me, either way I am still planning on going.. my Check is already pre written with all but the total!!

Prizes

A friend of mine called the local Apple Store here in Austin, and they said that there will be one powerbook and one iPod given away per store. People can register for them Friday night, and the drawing will be held the next week (you don't have to be there for the drawing. they will notify you if you win).

Hope that clears some things up.

I hope to see some of y'all in Austin.

they will close, quote from apple site;

"Tiger World Premiere Update,
The store will be closed from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm on April 29th to prepare for the Tiger World Premiere event. During the event, the Genius Bar will be closed for regular business but open for checkout. Mac Geniuses will still be available to assist you. If you need help finding a Mac Genius, please ask"

Don't they need more than 1 hours to upgrade all the store computers to Tiger?

They use netboot - so they only have to install the image on one xServe and it will be put accross on all of the computers when they restart. (i think :))

Yeah.. I'm feeling slightly insane for planning on going up to Regent St tonight after the girl at the cash register last night told me that they're expecting 2000 people there tonight!?!?!?

Are you being serious?!?! Wow, looks like I'll definitely have to come! :D

I wonder if there'll be a lot of press there tonight? What time is everyone planning to get there? I'm thinking maybe 2-3ish..

damned right - I'm taking the day off too ;) <shhhh!, dont tell anyone  >

I'm at work and can't leave all that early. Fingers crossed that I'll be there by 4 or so... Can't be near the front of the queue all the time.

Bear in mind that the 2000 figure might have been over the whole evening rather than queued out front/round side etc

Just waiting for my Tiger delivery or for my sister to come home - whichever comes first, then I can make my way up to the Regent Street store. TNT need to hurry up!

i'm waiting for the "i'm in the apple store" threads to start, a little early yet.

Those posts rely on people either bringing their iBooks or PowerBooks - chances yeah probably

or

Getting on an actual computer at the Apple Store - chances quite small seeing as every time I pass, every computer is in use and loads of people waiting around. And I pass a couple of times a week

Man, it would be sweet to work at the Apple store about now; so I could see how that is done.

They leave the computers on all night. Then cupertino just remote accesses them and refreshes using a disk image. They've updated the image to include 10.4 now. It's been on all the machines all day.

What with that? You mean if I walk in an Apple store right now, I can try out Tiger already?

Still going to Rockingham, NH Apple Store. Now managed to get a co-worker to go with me to buy a PB and my manager also to go, supposedly to buy an iPod, but I'll work on him. Who knows... conversion might be possible.

I just haven't had that privilege yet. Really hoping that one or two that have indicated the possibility will show up next Friday.
