We are all assuming there will be a queue. But for all we know apple has done away with launches just like they did with the apple watch. We'll see.

I work at best buy mobile and they don't let us pre-order, customers come first, and we have concession lines so it's almost impossible to pre-order. It's prolly the same with att employees. I'm preordering thru apple cuz I'm paying full price.

The customer comes first thats a given as they're the ones Camping out at the stores since next Wednesday!!. But as an employee of AT&T, VZ, T-Moblle..etc you would think they would at least offer their employee the option of having the latest smartphone at a subsidized price plus employee discount. If the employee decides to purchase using personal funds then by all means.

They do offer a really good discount for employees though :p I have an employee account with VRZ, I pay $40/mo for 10GB. I only paid $199 for my 64gb iPhone 6 and you do sign a contract, but its only for 1 year, and you can upgrade to a new phone every 10 months. so it's not that bad. I just wish I could get it on release day instead of waiting a month to get it, but oh well.

That is a very nice generous package for a Verizon employee and well deserved!!!

I've line waited every year since the original iPhone and this year will be no different. I love it. It's usually me and handful of friends in lawn chairs, with beers, watching a movie on someone's laptop. I also live in a smaller town, so on average there are only like 20 people in line for most of the night, so it doesn't start feeling too crowded or weird or anything.

I never camped out. I stood in line at AT&T for around an hour once. I had wanted a gold iPhone 5S or even silver in whatever the max storage size was for that model. All they had was space grey, I took it. But I think I'd enjoy it better walking in when all models and colors are available and buying it like any other piece of in stock merchandise.

I've done the waiting-in-line thing several times, and even camped out (last year) in the mall, having arrived at around 8:30 PM the night before and realizing that if I wanted to get in line, then was the time to do it. My friend and I set up "camp" with two camp chairs, chatted amiably with the people on each side of us and had a more-or-less comfortable night in the mall itself (if we had arrived even a half-hour or so later we wouldn't have been allowed to remain inside, so our timing was really good). Overall it was fun! Unfortunately on that Friday after I had gotten my new iPhone 6 Plus, I didn't have much time to play with it as I had an important engagement later in the morning, a gathering which ran well into the late afternoon. By the time I got back home I was more than ready to simply crash into bed!

This year? Well, if Launch Day is indeed September 18th, I'll be out of town overnight the 17th/18th, so no way I could hang out in line. When I get back into town later that Friday I'll of course check things out at the Apple Store and at AT&T but won't be surprised if by then they're all sold out and I'll have to wait a while for the 6s Plus.....

I have no kids, no wife, I'm off on Friday and Saturday and I'm a night owl so in short. . . . I'm camping. Mainly because I'm on AT&T Next (so I'm trading in) and quite frankly, because I want to.

I literally don't sleep much anyway and it won't be packed because I'm not going to Apple =)

Next year though I'll most likely pre-order since it'll be a redesign and limited quantities, etc (standard redesigning dilemmas)

I'll go to the Apple store on the morning of day 2 and after a few minutes in line I'll walk out with my new iPhone, same as last year. I just hope they'll start selling it in the second wave of countries one week later.
The longest queue I experienced was for iPhone 4, more than a month after the release in my country (is was the end of August). I spent almost an hour outside the AS, not a good experience.

Isn't it usually about today that the queue starts in New York, shortly followed by London which usually starts about a week after?
Generally those who want to be first in line to advertise for their website or startup will line up the weekend before LAUNCH, not keynote. Launch could still be 2 weeks away.

Fair enough. I thought I read last week that people have queued for 2+ weeks in the biggest cities but that does sound a little silly even for the most die-hard fan.

I
Who's going to camp outside for the latest iPhone 6S? I'm going to try but I work from 11AM-9PM at Best Buy Mobile on the launch date and that's only if it launches on the 18th. Either way I still work the 19th. Hopefully I can stay up since I'm going to be activating phones all day. If you are going to camp out. Post which phone you'll get and where you'll be camping out.

I'm taking a PTO day on the 18th, but the plan is to get up at 3AM EST next Friday (if that's still the correct time) and pre order. If pre-orders are FUBAR like they were last year, I'll consider going to the mall on the 18th.

I've done the lines twice (early morning, no camping out...for the 3G and the 5S). It's cool, you meet new people and get to shoot the breeze with people who have similar interests (it's even better to go with a friend). Workers at the mall hand out free stuff. It's an event-type atmosphere and not nearly as bad as some people describe it.

My gripe is that stock is limited and there is no guarantee you'll get what you're queuing up for. The S-series phones are always easier to pre-order because the build is the same as the previous phone.

You're right, it does, but in this day and age, I still wouldn't be shocked. Disappointed in humanity, maybe, but not shocked. :(

Not FUBAR, but rather, SNAFU. :D

I've never "camped" but I have gotten in line several hours before the store has opened and I will say it is an experience, that's for sure. Nowadays I can't be bothered so I just preorder at 2am and get it on launch day. I have never gone a launch day without an iPhone, so let's hope that streak continues. IF not, it's not the end of the world. ;)

Those people were paid to stay in line or they were trying to obtain publicity.

I won't because at this point I'm too damned old for such antics (lol), but I always enjoy reading the accounts of people who are! Kinda helps ramp the excitement up (as if that were necessary) in the days leading up to the launch. So bully for those of you who are camping out!

I've only stood in line once and that's because Apple didn't let us preorder. It wasn't all night it was just about 30 minutes before the AT&T store opened and I was 2nd in line. I plan on ordering by phone on launch day but if something happens and the queue is weeks long I may just go into the AT&T store the morning they start selling them and see what I can get.

Last year I preordered 3 hours after they went live and got my iPhone delivered to me on launch day. Not everyone is that lucky. But they don't run out of stock within minutes.

I'm fairly certain I did the same last year. Woke up at 6AM Eastern time and preordered. Phone arrived on launch.

All of you who are pre-ordering: wouldn't you want to wait it out and see how the general reviews are for the phone before spending all that $$$?

I get the excitement of getting a new device but then... i guess it's just me then...

I get hype.

I went to the premier of the movies...bought the special edition of collectable albums etc... b
but the iPhone 6s is pretty much hype-less at this point.
I mean, it's the 9th generation iPhone........ it's like lining up for the 2016 toyota corolla or something...

I have never camped out, especially when we've been allowed to pre-order. I'll take a wait and see approach with the 6s. I'm not going to order it immediately (if at all), I'll wait until the craziness settles. Until then, my 6 will more than suffice for me.

Why would you pre-order. you work at AT&T!!! :):):):):):):):)
Lol. We don't get first dibs on the phones. And we definitely don't get a great variation of models. We didn't get a single 128gb or a single 6P of any capacity or color lol. Trust me I wish I could lol. Customers get the first dibs of our inventory.
