I get hype.

I went to the premier of the movies...bought the special edition of collectable albums etc... b
but the iPhone 6s is pretty much hype-less at this point.
I mean, it's the 9th generation iPhone........ it's like lining up for the 2016 toyota corolla or something...

Haha... Remember the 2016 Corolla is the fastest, sturdiest, most secure and most comfrotable Corolla yet :p

It would just wind me up too much. I was there for the 6/6+ release and it just left a bad taste in my mouth because of all the scalpers.

I have zero issues with scalpers. They got in line like everyone else.

In theory, I don't have an issue with someone spending their time in a queue so they can resell something and make some extra cash. Or even if someone wants to purchase a second phone to help subsidise the first. C'est la vie.

My experience last year wasn't positive though. There were some people cutting in, and you'd have individuals with multiple Apple IDs reserving a dozen or so units in an attempt to circumvent the two per customer policy. Seeing suitcases (yes, suitcases) of iPhones being carried away was disheartening.

I can see why line jumpers are annoying (another reason to be glad I never did see the need to queue like this) but why do you care if someone drives a truck up to the store doors and gets them to load a pallet-full of goods on there as long as you get yours?

Apple was selling only two per customer. No way one customer bought a suit case of iPhones. No way.

preorder from the comfort of my computer chair. I moved from eastern time zone to pacific time zone since the last time I bought an iPhone. This means I can preorder at 12am PT and not 3am ET. I normally go to bed around 1am on a work night anyways so this aligns perfectly with my schedule.

No need to stand in line for 12 hours to have someone tell you their life story.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but isn't camping to buy a $800 phone slightly ridiculous?

Retarded IMO. Who in their right mind would do it now, unless there's something going on with being lonely.
The first year it was still dumb, but it made a small headline. Now, it has nothing to do with Apple Fetish, fan boy, whatever. It's desperate BS and unless you're some kind of scalper cow, what's the point?

No Apple employee will sell one customer a bunch of phones, when their policy is two per customer.

On launch day, sure. At least directly. However, for example if an individual arrives with three others, and shows reservations for two phones each, then ultimately you've got your 8 phones. Then you simply head to another store and rinse and repeat. A little later into the launch window, you don't need to try so hard.

That isn't really a viewpoint I'm comfortable with. I shouldn't care, but it is still annoying to see resellers get more than their fair share and for genuine end users to be denied.

I've noticed last year, that camping in front of the Apple Store is only wasted time. If I go to the electronic market, I can buy it there too. (Germany)

I actually went and did interviews at an Apple Store with my friend last year for the iPhone 6's premiere, and it was a pretty low turn out so I'm gonna assume this year will be even lower since it's just an "S" release, so I'm gonna skip it even if the phone beats expectations. I'll probably go to the 7 release though if it turns out to be as big/bigger than the 6's hype.

You do realise that if you're quick enough and especially if you use the App store app you can get one on launch day every time. I've preordered my iPhones and iPads online every year for the past few years and every time I have got them on launch day.

I noticed you didn't mention the Apple Watch. That was a horse of a different color.
I was online at 3 am (on my iPhone, iPad and iMac) but couldn't get in the store till 6 minutes later when the launch day orders were gone.
I only made it into the second delivery window.

That said, so far I've encountered no difficulties, so far, pre ordering iPhones online. I'm hoping that my success rate continues. However, that may change since I'll be ordering through AT&T this time around and not Apple.

I never camped out. I stood in line at AT&T for around an hour once. I had wanted a gold iPhone 5S or even silver in whatever the max storage size was for that model. All they had was space grey, I took it. But I think I'd enjoy it better walking in when all models and colors are available and buying it like any other piece of in stock merchandise.

Same here except I waited in line (and it was the last time as well) at the Apple Store. The first two people in line were able to get something other than Space Grey. Everyone behind them had no choice other than Space Grey. Initially, I was disappointed but later was pleased with the Space Grey. The white (face) iPhones are so popular now, I'll opt for the darker options with the new iPhone.

I enjoy a good laugh once in a while, looking forward to watching people sitting on their butts for hours on end, then telling my kids "Please don't become one of those for a stupid phone".

It's just a phone. I preferred to spend the quality time with our love one's instead because once they're gone, they're gone forever. Phones/toys are keep coming and keep getting better.
