On launch day, sure. At least directly. However, for example if an individual arrives with three others, and shows reservations for two phones each, then ultimately you've got your 8 phones. Then you simply head to another store and rinse and repeat. A little later into the launch window, you don't need to try so hard.

That isn't really a viewpoint I'm comfortable with. I shouldn't care, but it is still annoying to see resellers get more than their fair share and for genuine end users to be denied.

Those other people will have to go to the counter with their reservations and pay for the phones. As per the police, two per customer.

Retarded IMO. Who in their right mind would do it now, unless there's something going on with being lonely.
The first year it was still dumb, but it made a small headline. Now, it has nothing to do with Apple Fetish, fan boy, whatever. It's desperate BS and unless you're some kind of scalper cow, what's the point?
People get excited over all kinds of ridiculous things. Some camp for a phone, others root for group of grown men ramming into each other for a few million dollars and brain damage. Still others grow faint over 30 year old piece of rolling machinery polluting the air. Yet others can't wait to lay out on a sandy beach soaking up cancerous UV radiation. One person's joy is another person's folly. So who can really say if someone else is in their right mind.

I'll be visiting the AT&T store early on the 11th to place a preorder that I can hopefully pickup from the store on the 18th. I am starting a new job on the 14th so I do not believe that camping out or standing in line early on launch day will be an option.

I did the preorder from AT&T thing with the 3GS and 4S and it went fine in both instances. Since Apple didn't allow preorders for the 5S I had to wait outside the AT&T store for 2 hours on launch day to get one. I arrived there at 6AM and the doors opened at 8AM. It worked out and all, but I really hope they allow 6S preorders.

Preorder ftw. I'll simply wake up and pick up my new 6s waiting for me on my doorstep.

Not if thieves are following the fed ex trucks and they steal the phones from people's doorstep! I've heard of it happening. So, I suggest you stay awake and wait for it to arrive, then pick it up...

You're someone I'd hang with. Honestly, I'll never understand people who feel the need to judge others.

As per usual I'll continue to read up on real user reviews , YouTube reviews / unboxings and then if it ticks my wants and needs boxes I'll reserve one when I can mand stroll into my local :apple: Store.

Waiting outside a Store for a Mobile Phone has never been my bag.

But it that's yours - dandy. ;)

Lol, so true...

I usually buy iPhones after 2-3 months. By then Apple has rev 1.1 or 1.2 out which fixes minor niggles in hardware. Quietly fixed !!

I also directly hop on to relative stable iOS point 1 firmwares like x.1.x.

Prices are also stable. Rarely lower than at launch but definitely no price gouging.

So I absolutely do not see any merit standing in queue at launch day apart from bragging rights in front of your friends and other people. But anyway, those people must already be laughing behind your back for you being idiot. Well I do that anyway. :p haha

I noticed you didn't mention the Apple Watch. That was a horse of a different color.
I was online at 3 am (on my iPhone, iPad and iMac) but couldn't get in the store till 6 minutes later when the launch day orders were gone.
I only made it into the second delivery window.

That said, so far I've encountered no difficulties, so far, pre ordering iPhones online. I'm hoping that my success rate continues. However, that may change since I'll be ordering through AT&T this time around and not Apple.

I didn't mention the Watch. That said I preordered immediately after they went live using the Apple store app and got mine on launch day. It was actually easier with the Watch as you were able to store your favourite watch and strap combinations on their web site. I just went straight to my favourites and ordered from there.

That's nice to hear. It would be nice if I had the option of ordering through the Apple Store, as I've done in the past. They threw a fly in the ointment because now I can't pre order there and get the AT&T contract with subsidized pricing. So, now my options are to order it online or go into the AT&T Store when it launches. I'm not thrilled with either option right now.
Thanks for sharing your pre order experiences!

I live in the UK and I'm on a SIM only 12 month contract so I buy my iPhone unlocked outright from Apple. I've done that the three or four years. I prefer to buy direct from Apple anyway as to other third party retailers.

Didn't they do it to the Apple Watch?

They did but the Apple watch was different as it was in extremely short supply and there were so many varied combinations with watch and strap. I don't Apple had any choice with it but to make preorders and even purchase over the first couple of months exclusively online. It would have been chaos in the stores dealing with all the different combination of watches and straps in store at launch.

Has there/will there be an option to pre order and have the phone reserved at the store for pick up? I will be living a 5 minute walk away and the centre the store is in isn't the nicest places to want to be spending the night.

Yes.

Don't like waiting in line for iPhones, movies, rollercoaster rides, Playstations, or a good restaurant. I am patient and can wait in the comfort of my home.

I've never camped out. I did get in line for the iPad 3 at about 6am, only because I was awake, after dropping my daughter off for her field trip. It was not bad, met some interesting people. I'll just pre-order or wait til the stores get them. I have the 6 plus, so I'm good. It works just fine.
