How is your iPhone 6 performing these days? Are you getting the dreaded slowdown *cough* planned obsolescence *cough* with the most recent iOS updates?
I have stayed on iOS 9 with the OTA fix, so I don't get the constant upgrade-nagging either.

Both my wife and i have 6s and my daughter has 6. If the new iPhone is really impressive, I will consider it, but I will wait for carrier deals like buy one get one free, or some other deals. I am also considering switching to Verizon from ATT, so that opens up some additional possibility for a better deal.

I am not deciding anything until after Apple has its keynote. My 6S 128 GB is still stellar and I just had it replaced in January due to the defective battery due to early shut off program. My phone was eligible and they replaced my 6S with a brand new unit at that time which, coincidentally, came with the TSMC processor whereas my original, launch-day 6S was a Samsung processor. Plus I have a Mophie juice pack too, so battery life is not a concern.

That said, I normally do upgrade every 2 years like most do. And something tells me that when Apple has the keynote and shows the technology and performance that the new iPhones will pack, I will likely look into upgrading to something. Just not sure what that something will be until after Apple officially shows its hand.

6s? Heck, I'm keeping the 6 Plus. Still the best phone Apple has made. The added weight and bulk of the 6S Plus and 7 Plus made these models crap for me. Plus the 7 Plus has horrible, muffled speaker phone quality that makes it unusable as a phone. $1,000 for a phone and they can't even get the "phone" part right? I think the 7-series phones will go down as the worst Apple has produced. I hate them.

Given what I see as Apple's increasingly bad record of producing trouble-free phones and questionable usability decisions (force touch is worthless but "forced" us to carry fatter, heavier phones as a result), I will look long and hard at any future Apple phone before buying it. I hear the 8 is going to be "smaller" but even fatter than the already too fat 7 Plus. I'll definitely handle before considering a purchase.

I'd like to see more phones using Google's Fi network, which is really leagues better than anything else out there. Went to Europe recently, and Fi was a godsend. Fast service everywhere, and no need to hunt down local SIMs or pay the extortionist prices of the big American carriers. I used it in an iPhone, but you have to activate it first on one of the supported phones (I used a Pixel, which would be decent except the Bluetooth is broken).

How do I get rid of the nagging? What's the OTA fix? I'm still on 9 as well, have no plans to change.

I have a 6s plus. I’ll likely keep it another year if this new phone is $1k and tamobikendoesnt do a free wth trade offer (I’d probably go as far as $200 down, or better yet $2-300 divided up in 24 payments. Absolutely will not be plopping down a grand up front on a phone. Just not happening. I’d be quicker to jump on an LTE Watch.
If you ever do carrier installment and make use of the program's early upgrade, putting down payment is an awful deal considering the likelihood of a new iPhone getting released in less than 12 months is pretty low. You're just gonna end up paying more for lease/depreciation.

I have a inkling i'm feeling it, but i also bought a new iPad Pro 10.5", so i maybe getting use to switching back and forth between smooth animations, quick opening of apps and the screen in general of the iPad Pro
Lol, it's probably the latter.

After I've been exclusively on the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9 for a while, I usually need to adapt to how "laggy" the Air 2 seems to feel. It's just as fast as it was before I got the 12.9. Nothing's changed on the Air 2 - it's still running the same firmware and apps, it's just my perception that's changed. :p

No slowdown on my 6 running the latest OS. Even my old 5s that I gave my mom is running fine the last time I checked. I don't get what all the fuss about regarding "planned obsolescence". It's only natural that as the software gets more advanced it will push the limits of the hardware more, but in my experience iOS devices can last for a number of years.

I was likely not clear enough. T-Mobile tends to do the $650 portion of the device free via monthly bill credits. Everything beyond that is due up front. So, it ends up being like the old subsidies on two year contract, effectively. Idk how others have handled it. I likely wouldn’t choose to get rid of the phone before the two years is up if I went this route. $1000 phones won’t be yearly upgrades for me. In fact, I skipped the 7, and that wasn’t even a money thing. There just simply wasn’t a feature I needed/wanted.

I’d maybe consider the iPhone upgrade program if I wasn’t forced into Apple care. I don’t really see the value in that program short of a phone being a total loss. Screen repairs are cheaper to do out of pocket anyway. Of course, that also is dependent what the new screens run.

I will be keeping my 6s and my husband will keep his 6. We both use our phones for calls, text, facetime, and maps and rarely use Safari on them. There is no good reason to fork over more money to Apple unless one of our devices break at some point. Both iphones are still going strong.

ETA: If Apple made an SE2 I would be tempted to jump ship earlier than expected.

The iPhone SE 2 is expected to launch in 2018 according to the latest rumors. I imagine we will see more rumors in the beginning of the new year.

100% upgrading. In my eyes it would have been fully worth it to upgrade to the 7plus for the battery life + camera alone. So I will be preordering the 8 riiiight away.

Got mine from work so I have no choice but to stick with it, however - the improvements on the 7 were pretty unnoticable and the 6s still works as good as new, only the battery seems to last shorter. I notice more often that I am left with less than 20% at night. No biggie, just plug in at work for a little while on a fast charger.

I will most definitely be preordering the iPhone 8. My 6s Plus is in mint condition and is running well, but, based on the rumors and leaks, the 8 is a worthy upgrade. As is typically the case with my old phones, the 6s Plus will be going up on Swappa to help cover the cost of the upgrade.

We are noticing the monthly fee jump considerably and the one off handset price too. In the UK we don't seem to get trade in deals that are worthwhile and it's becoming increasingly difficult to hide the price hike of these phones. The cost of iPhones in dollars translates the same into pound sterling and with our pound being so weak, we're paying nearly a third of the price more again. It's putting a real downer on these releases as they are appearing to either be unaffordable to many or just unscrupulously overpriced.

I know the common response is 'but Apple are releasing another rehashed iPhone 6 at the previous premium price, so the lions share of iPhone owners can just buy that'.. However that is pretty uninspiring.

I've avoided Android and still think the operating system is inferior to iOS in terms of stability and longevity. But I am seriously wondering if that could be considered a trade off if some manufacturers are offering more exciting tech at a more reasonable price? Many see this as Apple finding a new market for selling a premium device. I see it as taking the piss out of loyal customers and offering industry standard features with an arrogant marketing spin. I'm not willing to be a mug this time around.

Not to give you a bit more of a downer, there are some rumours of an increase on the price from 7 to 7s of at least 10%.

Brexit gives such a warm fuzzy feeling as everything gets more expensive...

That wouldn't surprise me the way things are going. I don't have to worry until next September and if the price does indeed get silly, I might consider dumping Apple for my mobile phone choice. I'll keep my iPad which was quite good value, but I couldn't justify another £80 being added to a handset price, especially when the monthly contracts are creeping up.

I think all of us in the UK will have to get used to higher prices for technology. I work in IT and all stock I order has gone up quite a bit since Brexit.

It's either Samsung, Google or Apple for me. If they're all creeping up I'll probably stick with Apple. I think the X/8 price is going to beyond my limit no matter what. Not to mention the reaction from friends/family seeing me using a £1000 phone.

Monthly contracts prices are ok if your a low data user.
I currently use around 100gb-200gb will cost me around £80-£90 each month on unlimited everything on three uk.
Sim free is the way to go with my cheap £18 unlimited data sim plan.

I'd much rather stick with Apple out of choice. I'm just really miffed that everything is going up so much. An iPhone 7 would have cost me £240 more on my contract last year and I point blank refused to get it. I settled for a 6S and it proved to be the better choice anyway. It seems they way things are going i'll be upgrading to year old devices or just finding a cheaper alternative altogether. My days of preordering the latest iPhone seem to be over.

I looked into sim only plans but Three have horrendous coverage in my part of Wales and I don't want to outlay a load of money in one go on a handset. I couldn't hand over £500+ for a phone but would happily hide it in a 24 month contract.

My 6s+ is working great and should last me for quite a while. I bought it as a refurb from Apple last year. I simply refuse to pay the kind of money they are asking for the new phone.

I agree. Hardware is sufficient to the point where the newest phone is no longer required for a great experience. I recently got a 6s 128 with no up front cost and minimal impact on my term pricing.

Every iPhone I've ever bought has been done on a 0% credit card (I'm disciplined though). It's the only thing making me remotely consider an X/8.
