I'm going to go naked until the vapor pro is out for the 5. I've been going naked with my old iphones, but the element aluminum cases look too nice to pass up this time.

My new iPod will NEVER BE NAKED, except when it arrives. Those of you with naked iPhones will regret it when they shatter on the ground

4 generations of iPhones...all naked. Never once a shatter.

read up on them....lots of complaints. I think they look hot and wanted one until I read up on them.

So whats a good screen protector? Power support or Tru protection? I plan on going crystal to keep that screen looking original and bright!

No case for my future iPhone 5. I went without a case for my iPhone 4S and it held up very well. Apple Care keeps me pretty comfortable with no case.

I will definitely be getting Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protectors. Not sure if I should wait for the Neo Hybrid EX Vivid Series to come out since it doesn't look like they will be releasing an EX series with the side protectors. I really don't want any scuffs or scratches.

Case and protector for me. Works out great when you want to sell for the upgrade. Just sold my 4S and because I protected it I sold what I condedered a like-new phone.

This might be my first time going naked full time as I bought Apple Care Plus so if the screen gets scratched the phone can be replaced :)

2 years of worry free damage protection and warranty. :)

for most on this board, i assure you that the iPhone is as much a toy as tool.

I'm not following how a bumper offers any protection from high altitude, extreme temperatures or snow. I'd be willing to be that most drop damage is cosmetic, and other than dropping your iPhone in water, rarely impacts the functionality of the phone. I once dropped my iPhone 3G twenty feet down a waterfall. Missed the water but hit the rocks, screen was busted but the iPhone still worked. Since all the damage resulted from a direct impact to the screen a bumper clad iPhone would not have faired any better. While the story of your manly life style was entertaining, dropping an iPhone on the cold hard floor of my cubicle would do far more damage than dropping the same phone in a nice soft pile of snow.

Going to use mine naked, just like a girl should be. Always used the older iPhones naked too, never broke it. Did drop the 4 couple times and only put minor dings on it.

Surprising I've dropped it on the sidewalk many times and only had a ding on the metal band. Screen was still pristine.

I'm also going naked. Had a case for my 4S since I bought it but they all add so much bulk and you don't ever have the same feel of the device of how it's meant to be

No way
Want mine spotless for resale and to satisfy My OCD
Im getting either a slim case or bodyguardz for the back
Tossing in a bookbook for good measure

I really need to question the resale value argument. I'd say resale value has more to due with timimg than cosmetics. A lightly scratched caseless iphone 4S sold a month before the iPhone 5 was anounced probably had a higher resale value than a pristine cased 4S sold the day after the anouncement. Another factor to consider is do you earn enough of a premium in resale over a naked iPhone to recover what you spent on cases. Looks like your planning to spend well over $100 on cases. I have a hard time believing that one or two years from now you would be able to sell that iPhone for a $100 more than someone selling a slightly worn naked phone.

Does it wear off quickly:confused:

i didn't know about this coating.

will a screen protector make it better or worse?

I seems to get worn off pretty quick if it's always in your pants pocket. When you first get your iPhone the oleophobic coating resists fingerprints and makes your finger glide along the glass as smooth as silk... eventually though the coating gets rubbed off and you start getting fingerprints (which I HATE!).

If you put on a screen protector it should keep it on there, but it's not like it will be of any use for you being blocked by the protector an all. You can get certain oleophobic screen protectors though.

I know it's not a big deal to many but I hate fingerprints so I need a holster so the oleophobic coating doesn't get worn off if it's in my pants pocket.

I like using a case cause in my backpack alot. And some of the cases look really nice. I love the mophie case with the added extra battery power.

Naked is the only way. We already know that iPhone users get laid more often than users of other brands. What many people don't realize is that going naked helps you get laid even more than regular iPhone users. Why might you ask? Well...

1) Going case free signifies confidence. You don't need to have a case because you are confident you can stop your phone from plunging into the ground.
2) Going case free proves that you are physically and mentally mature. Other phone users drop their phone because their muscle-mind concentration isn't strong enough. You on the other hand, are strong.
3) Going case free means that you know how to treat something beautiful. After all, Sir Ive didn't spend countless hours making your iPhone the best in its class just to have you cover it with a $12.99 piece of plastic.

I could go on and on. Whether conscious or subconscious, others do judge you based on how you display your phone. If you want to get laid more, going naked is your best bet.

This might be my first time going naked full time as I bought Apple Care Plus so if the screen gets scratched the phone can be replaced :)

But isn't it only usable twice for accidental damage, and even that is with a fee?

I'm not sure if this has been brought up, bit if it has, please disregard.

The glass on the iPhone4 has a much higher rockwell rating than the aluminum used on the back of the new iPhone5. While glass is very good at resisting scratches, it is also susceptible to cracking and breaking--it's a tradeoff. The aluminum is more durable in the since that it will resist failure due to cracking better than the glass, however, it will scratch much easier due to being a softer material. I guess my point is that those of you who plan to use the phone without a case or some sort of protection should expect more scratches and dents in caparison with the iphone4. Aluminum's resistance to scratching and gouging is not one of it's strengths.

Goin naked most of the time, but some type of case for travel, where I use the iPhone as my GPS in the car.

Never a fan of screen protectors but I am careful enough to not get scratches on my iPads or iPhones. I did try one for a while. Reminded me of seat covers--why put seat covers on your leather upholstery just so it is pristine for the next buyer?

Every time I read the title of this thread as I'm scrolling, I automatically read it as, "Who's planning on getting naked with the iPhone 5?" If that were the question, the answer would be, "me."

To answer your actual question, I will definitely be keeping mine in a case. I do have the tendency to drop phones (only actually broke one though when it shattered the screen) so I'm going to be extra careful with this one. Screen protector and case always.

Screen protector till we see if the screen is as durable then naked from there on out :D

If the metal back is matte and has some grip to it. I will rock it naked.

The biggest reason I have a incipio matte black case on my 4s is give it some added grip. The glass front and back of the iphone 4/4s is slippery. Result ...... I've never dropped my phone.

My thought process has always been, do you walk around with a helmet on 24/7?
People love to parrot stuff. It was funny when Seinfeld said it as a joke. However, if you think about it, a person's head isn't detached and constantly moved around and handled on the move so there's no chance of dropping it like a phone. If you're going to rely on an analogy then make sure it fits.

In any case, it's a subjective matter. Different people are willing to take different risks. Not sure why people think they need to evangelize their preferences. Do what works for you. Let others do what works for them. These aren't one-size-fits-all matters and thankfully people have choices to find what suits them.

Surprising I've dropped it on the sidewalk many times and only had a ding on the metal band. Screen was still pristine.
Not surprising at all. Drops are not all the same.

I really need to question the resale value argument. I'd say resale value has more to due with timimg than cosmetics.
False dichotomy. At any point in time there are multiple options for sale. Generally the buyer will want the product that looks like it was taken care of better. In any case, it's a subjective matter and you have to decide what you're willing to do.

Another factor to consider is the individual's preference. You quoted the person you're replying to as saying "and to satisfy My OCD". In other words, that person's reasoning isn't solely resale value. Again, you need to make your decision based on your preferences -- same as any other subjective matter.

If you want to get laid more, going naked is your best bet.
If you're relying on your phone (or any product that you buy) to get laid then the phone isn't the problem. :D

But isn't it only usable twice for accidental damage, and even that is with a fee?

Subjective matter. Some do these things to increase resale value. Others have other reasons. Do what works for you.
