I did. Interesting to see how many people there are like me, that although disappointed we're out of Euro 2008, don't really care that much and figure the whole idea of English football is a lost cause.

...almost a 3rd of people that have voted so far ;)

Back in a mo, just going to check for the private message saying "You mind if I modify your poll"............. Back, not arrived yet.

If people don't care why bother voting or reading the thread.

It's about football, England's sorry display over the last 18 months and who is the right man to manage us next, not everyone's cup of tea I agree, but to some it is.

Chill out

Your poll options still stand, you're not losing out on this obviously vital information.

By don't care I mean just that. I'd like England to do well, but I don't care who leads them since I know nothing about any of them.

I dont even watch that much football, but when it comes to the ENGLAND TEAM

FAILING

Epically FAILING.

Croatia ffs.

An easy answer to why McClaren didn't resign - he would have forfeited his £2 million pay off. Amazing the gall of this man, who to be honest would be more suited to York City. How could he possibly think that he deserves a pay off in any way? Astonishing. Brian Barwick, head of the FA, also needs to resign for choosing him. Who elected him anyway?
The football throughout the campaign was largely garbage with the rudimentary skill of keeping the ball non-existent + the hoof it up the field tactics almost neanderthal. That doesn't get you anywhere against half decent teams. That is a management problem; McClaren is/was as bad as Taylor and Keegan; tactically inept, out of their depth, useless in a crisis. Why do they keep employing imbeciles? I pity the fans who paid a lot of money to go to games overseas. They ended up with empty pockets along with all the nasty memories.
Mourinho or O'Neil, I don't mind which. And a wage cap would help.

I just find it rude that just because you are a moderator you feel you can change people's threads.

i think the thing that stands out for me is the reaction to Northern Ireland and Scotland. They where described along the lines of brave Scotland and heroic n. Ireland.

When was the last time anyone could call any England player heroic or brave? A crap manager doesn't help but you need players with some balls, not these over-paid tarts we have at the moment.

Couldn't agree more. Scotland had to face Italy and France and got so close. NI are a tiny team and stood a chance. When the groups were announced for Euro 2008 I felt we should top the group with no problems. Sadly we were poor in all but 2 games

Well, I'm looking for a new job at the moment so if the FA fancy giving me a ring I'm open to offers. I'm pretty good at Football Manager and my MacRumors Fantasy Football team is doing well at the moment, so I reckon I'm up to the job. I look better in a suit than McClaren too, and my umbrella holding is beyond reproach.

Seriously though, I'd welcome anyone who's tactically astute and would give our current crop of overpaid prima donnas a much needed kick up the backside. I wouldn't mind Jose Mourinho or Fabio Capello, both are fine managers with proven records.

If Princess Shearer so much as gets an interview, I'm going to be livid.

So, all these people who 'don't watch much football' how do they know what is bad? How do they know our short comings?

Must read the Daily Mail...
I'd say the fact we're out already qualifies us as 'bad'. You don't have to watch football or know much about it to come to that conclusion either :p

Not that much of a wally – had he resigned he'd have missed out on the sizeable compensation package he's going to get for the remainder of his contract. ;)

But maybe, just maybe he would have gained a bit of respect if he HAD resigned and openly said, I didn't do a good enough job so I don't deserve the pay-out. Its not like he is struggling for cash is it?

If put to a vote here, I think you'd win, Mr Cake. :D

Just a thought, but if a Mr. J Cake got the job there could be serious consequences for the England team.

Imagine the situation, England playing poorly and Fat Boy Lampard is struggling so the manager brings him off, instead of not talking to the manager what is Lampard going to do. Eat him!

Not only would the consequences for the manager himself be less than pleasant, but it wouldn't do much for Lampards already bulging waste line...

Think it's a shame that they sacked Mclaren. Watching England play football hadn't been so entertaining for years :D

/sarcastic Scottish mode off ;)

Did you see the Scottish tea towel (sorry flag) amongst the Croatia supporters?

I don't know much about football, but the idea or more rhino's in the game sounds exciting! There clearly aren't enough right now as I didn't even notice one during the last match I saw.

Ooo, ta. If I get the job, you can be assistant manager if you like. Add a touch of international flavour to the managerial set up. :)

Not if I get an injunction against you for misappropriating my username! :p It's JaffaCake on a lot of forums, so I have prior, err, art on my side?

P.S. I'll license name usage to you if you hire me if you actually become manager :D

I think it's a disgrace that you'd put your own needs before those of the nation. Shocking – and to think I was going to make you kit man or something.

Anyway, sorting the England team out is the least I can do, seeing as how McClaren started his football career here in Hull. It's all our fault, see.

I know Capello has declared himself interested in the job but I'm wondering how many other of the big names we'd like to see take the job will be interested given that we now don't have any competitive games for quite some time...

I didnt even watch the game - But to loose to Croatia is laughable!

Im embarressed for our country!

And yeh I would of resigned. Taking a 2 mil pay out is daylight robbery!

The shame is in the nature of our performance, not in the calibre of the opposition we lost too. Croatia are a very good side, and have been for several years. England on the other hand aren't, and haven't been.

I suppose I really should change my avatar, too...

I agree. Croatia outplayed us and we deserved nothing from the game given our poor performance.
