Christ, can we please end the endless procession of these frivolous threads?

Whatever reservations you have about this and that have been answered by the predecessor threads, so please stop.

Zeus, will people stop wondering why people talk about rumors that are about macs on a website called mac rumors?

I bought mine Monday

I decided to make the plunge on Monday. My white macbook (2.4, 4GB, 160GB) should be here Tuesday. I already sold off the iPod Touch and got the macbook as described for about $1075 after rebates and such. I won't be able to get those specs for that price after the update. This is my first macbook, and I really want some time to learn the OS a little more before senior year starts, so I'll have two weeks to do that.

I say go for it, but if you don't have a reason to buy right now, then it's probably worth the wait.

The only thing holding me back from buying a MacBook right now is because the new notebooks will have LED backlit screens, which I find to be alot sharper and visually pleasing. Plus if the new ones are aluminum I won't have to worry about getting the white dirty. :)

Performance wise I could careless, the current MacBooks are just fine. I'd be willing to trade the iPod Touch and a few bucks for a LED backlit and aluminum finished MacBook. :p

Best thing to do is just be patient, or buy now. It's really upto whether you need it right now or not.

Were it not from the stock warnings from Apple I would be more frustrated this weekend. As long as news of their approach keeps trickling in, I'm relatively happy.

I will not buy until another is released.

This end of September news is a little frustrating but i don't think it can conceivably be any later than that seeing as how Apple has given out their stock warnings.

We'll see. For those who are on the verge of buying...... wait, hold on just a little longer. Think about the gorgeous thin aluminium macbook with tapered edges, multi-touch trackpad, brighter, better screen; maybe even some surprises like an LCD display for the trackpad - just think how that will feel in your sweaty palms on launch day.

i was totally a waiter...until today. i placed my order for my first macbook and it should be here mid next week. my reasoning was that this current macbook will do everything i need it to, so why wait for an update? first generation products often have problems, and if there was a case redesign there may be some problems. I start classes late september, so if the update came and wasnt shipping for 6 weeks i would be screwed anyways.

but if i had the flexibility i probably would have waited. but hey, i finally made the mac plunge and i am very excited as i have been waiting for a year and a half to take this step.

I'm playing the waiting game for my first mac. Fall classes start September 3rd, so it looks like i'll just have to use the computers in the library for a while. I only hope we see a special event sometime in late August or early September :)

Lucky. :(
My classes start August 25th.
I've been wanting a MacBook since graduation, but decided I'd spend my money on the 16 Gig 3G, and a nice flight home (Bronx, NY).
I'm waiting again because I heard about the update, Vista is killing me !
A new aluminum MacBook and Leopard is well worth the wait though.
I had tons of time with Tiger, so i really want to see how Leopard compares. :D

I'm getting a new Macbook, or maybe a pro, when they update next so I can actually have a Mac I can travel with. I love my Macbook but I want a more rugged machine, so my lovely, but delicate, Macbook has been living on my desk for 6 months.

Don't baby your MacBook too much. it's a sturdy machine. I've commuted on motorbike in Thailand with mine nearly every day for 2 years. It's been tossed around quite a bit. An aluminum update won't make it more rugged - it'll just show the dents easier and have a harder time catching wifi signals :)

GRRRR..!!

I just got Adobe Production Premium for mac, but I can't use it. My lame iMac 17" doesn't have enough memory for it, and I can't find the card because they discontinued the PC2100 line!

I can't do my multimedia studies to it's full potential because I don't have a computer with all the requirements needed.

I figure if I can get a Mac Pro, I can do all my stuff at home, on the train and at college. Plus the free internet from the campus' wifi connection, although I can't get connected with my iPhone 3G!

I'm still having problems atm with my MacBook. I JUST reset the PMU 4 days ago, and I am getting FLICKERING AGAIN!!!

I'm still waiting to see what Apple does this cycle, whether it's iPod, or Mac + iPod, or Mac + iPod + New Product Never Before Seen before I buy again.

And if it's any good for a lower price (note my terminology there), I'll get it and give this one I'm writing this post on currently to my long-suffering mother who needs a new computer (laptop) badly.

I have been holding out for the new macbook pro since april. I start uni 22 september and was planning to have the laptop before that to get used to, and install programs (first time mac buyer).

At the moment I have sort of decided to buy the hp 8710w, mainly because of its good quadro fx 3600 grafics card but also because most of my programs dont run on os x. I fear I have to struggle a lot between Leopard and xp in order to get any of my work done.

I havent still decided yet, but I'm sort of telling myself to wait one more round and get a mac when nehalem comes out.

Macs are extremly tempting to buy, especially the OS X leopard, but the truth of the matter is that unless you can completely rely yourself and your work within the 'macworld' your gonna have a difficult time. Softwares like autocad and 3dsmax need heavy mashines to run, and one can not simply use parallells or vmware to run them.

I think the day Autodesk releases all of their productline for OS X salefigures for macs will dubble and I'll be one of them (unless i dont buy one this time that is;)).

Easy solution, you could use BootCamp to dual-boot XP AND Leopard.
So whenever you need to use XP for AutoDesk or whatever programs you might need from Windows, all you'll have to do is reboot and select Windows XP.
Not exactly sure how to install BootCamp, so you might want to do a little google research, or just look it up on the Apple site.

Yes I know about the bootcamp, which is great. But I always work on several programs; mostly between 3dsmax and photoshop/Illustrator. Having installed adobe on Os x that multitasking becomes difficult with bootcamp. I could however install adobe on xp and run things from there, but then you start asking youself why not just by a pc if your gonna run everything on windows. You get a cheaper laptop with 'better specs' with a pc.

As I said Autodesk holds the key for a lot of people out there. But I also think virtual programs such as parallells and vmware are getting better and better, and soon probably you can use them with hardware acceleration.

Yup, this is the #1 reason for me to hold out on buying a macbook for now. LED backlighting is totally worth waiting for.

I am NEW to this Mac world thing and I am not starting class until the end of August, however, so I don't really care if it takes another week. My deadline is before the promotion ends, if I can't get a free printer and a new Ipod along with my purchase I probably would not get a Mac... :D

I keep checking in with you guys nowadays for updates. :D:D:D:D:D

You guys make me kind of excited about this Mac experience actually...

:p

The problem, though, is that the back-to-school promotion will more than likely end before the updates. :(

So you may want to be in decision soon: free iPod/printer or updated MacBook.

I am also another frustrated update waiter. But I don't need a notebook until I start university, which is in October. So hopefully I'll get an updated MB - hopefully apple bring out a black model:).

Definitely scope out VMWare Fusion - the way it can interact with a Boot Camp partition might just be the hybrid solution for you.

Apple is not going to release any updates in September. They wouldn't do that right in the middle of Back to School...Usually updates are only released October/November, or around May...

If you need one now, buy it now.
