Yes I know about the bootcamp, which is great. But I always work on several programs; mostly between 3dsmax and photoshop/Illustrator. Having installed adobe on Os x that multitasking becomes difficult with bootcamp. I could however install adobe on xp and run things from there, but then you start asking youself why not just by a pc if your gonna run everything on windows. You get a cheaper laptop with 'better specs' with a pc.
As I said Autodesk holds the key for a lot of people out there. But I also think virtual programs such as parallells and vmware are getting better and better, and soon probably you can use them with hardware acceleration.
Apple is not going to release any updates in September. They wouldn't do that right in the middle of Back to School...Usually updates are only released October/November, or around May...
If you need one now, buy it now.
Don't baby your MacBook too much. it's a sturdy machine. I've commuted on motorbike in Thailand with mine nearly every day for 2 years. It's been tossed around quite a bit. An aluminum update won't make it more rugged - it'll just show the dents easier and have a harder time catching wifi signals![]()
i do believe they updated both the ipod and the imac last year in mid august...![]()
okayjustin said:What if the entry level model is 999 and it's better than the current blackbook? I currently own a blackbook and that would be crazy if the updated model entry level was pretty much better than the blackbook and for cheaper too though it sounds pretty much plausible. That means i guess the blackbook resale price would go way cheaper right? Does anyone think this will happen or maybe the new priced ones will still be pretty high? Because maybe I'll plan to sell the blackbook for the new one if "lower-end" ones are pretty good.
What you guys think about that?

it's totally plausible that the upgrades will knock the 2.4GHz to the low-end or older.
How long have you had your BlackBook?
ME!! ME!! ME!!This is not a post asking what the speculated updates will be.
I'm on the verge of buying a MacBook, but I'm holding off until the September update to do so. All I want to know, is who's in this boat with me, and is it not maddening having to wait for something that may not happen!?
Completely agreed. The waiting's hard. But I'm sure that our wait will be generously rewarded!... Can't ... wait ... any ... longer! Must ... buy now! Someone please talk me out of it, before I hit 'Buy Now'! The agony is too much! Have you no decency, Mr. Jobs? No compassion? End our suffering!
There have been August and September Mac updates in the near past. Don't forget all the rumors pointing to September.Apple is not going to release any updates in September. Reading the few post since my own has helped me a little bit. Atleast for a few days.
I am sure that the new Macbook will have 2.66 ghz with 1,000 MB front side bus too. It might mirror the current 20 inch iMacs.
Just for fun, what do you guys think about having both an iMac and a Laptop?

I currently have an iMac and am planning on gettig a MacBook. I think it's a completely reasonable thing to do. And I'm doing this on a college student budget!
Granted, I also do freelance editing, so I need a home desktop. My work G5 (a fine machine) is usually tied up in my job's editing. So having a desktop at home for freelance is awesome.
I decided to make the plunge on Monday. My white macbook (2.4, 4GB, 160GB) should be here Tuesday. I already sold off the iPod Touch and got the macbook as described for about $1075 after rebates and such. I won't be able to get those specs for that price after the update. This is my first macbook, and I really want some time to learn the OS a little more before senior year starts, so I'll have two weeks to do that.
I say go for it, but if you don't have a reason to buy right now, then it's probably worth the wait.
My plan is to wait until September 15th and if they have not update by then, I will buy so I can get the free ipod. I will sell that ipod since it won't hold all my music and wait for the ipod update so I will at least have one new thing!

That's stupid. September 15th is a Monday, and the 16th is a Tuesday. Apple could very well come out with something the day after you finish "waiting".
