Is 1g of ram the reason why Safari reloads tabs everytime u click on them?

I am no expert but according to most people here, it is.

I am forgetting 2GB RAM now. iPad Air 2 is way more upgraded than iPad Air and that's good enough for me.

Only partially. There is nothing in iOS stopping the available RAM from being used up elsewhere so no matter how much RAM, the fundamental operating system still has the flaw. I would expect it to be somewhat better with 2GB, but it's still going to happen.

So how is the battery life on retina mini 3 and air 2?

On the Air 2 they specifically said 10 hours. Should be exactly the same on the mini 2 and 3.

And?

I think we'll know late next week when the tear-down sites take delivery.

With the increased power and their focus in the keynote on productivity apps I would not be surprised to see it have 2GB.

Lol... the entire thread is about people who won't be buying it if it doesn't have 2GB. Obviously pre orders go live tonight. What more do I need to explain?

I agree.

It's progress. There are professional developers who create desktop apps who have made watered down iPad versions partly due to memory constraints.

Lift these constraints and we will see more innovation.

Frankly, the only hope here is that they apparently don't mention ram.

They can do whatever they want, but if this is the way it is, this will be the first time; 'I won't even consider upgrading'.

But didn't that leaked part show 2gb?

I'm thinking it is actually 2gb.

It's honestly likely to be 2GB considering the other spec bumps.

1GB was the biggest thing holding back the iPad Air; it's simply insufficient for modern web browsing. All the reviews will very much notice and pan the device if it only has 1GB ram.

I was hoping they'd announce it; but the reality is that I knew they weren't. I hope when there is a spec list, tear-down, etc., I'll know. I want more than what I have now in regards to what I use the iPad for.

If there isn't a RAM upgrade that can be used for better gaming, along side the new CPU/GPU, then there isn't really any reason for me to upgrade from my iPad 4. I'll just keep it another year. :(

One thing that bugs me.

I've noticed Apple is very good at responding to what people want. They gauge what the mood is and fill a need.

But in this case they are tight lipped. Why? Habit?

People want this. They should respond, not silently do what they do, if they do do it....or not....(yikes  )

It would be good if the "are safari tab reloads so much of an issue?" commenters would read the comments others have put on here..
The 1gb ram issue isn't just about Safari reloads (sure, that's frustrating).
It's also about multi-tasking. My iPad air doesn't do a great job at keeping as many apps "open" as my iPad 4 did.
I'm also seeing the same issue on my iPhone 6, compared to 5 and a little worse than it was on the 5S. I only use a small number of apps through the day, and usually see each one of them reload at some point.
Same with the iPad - a small number of apps in an evening, and see each one reload at some point.

Apple tout multitasking as a convenience feature, but in the iPad air and iPhone 5S and 6, it's not so convenient any more.

I won't get an Air 2 with 1GB of RAM. I _may_ get an Air 2 if it has 2GB of RAM. Still on the fence. Would really like an iPad Pro. The A8X (40% faster CPU, 2.5 times faster GPU) with 2GB of RAM almost makes it a Pro for me. Would like a pressure sensitive display for drawing and split screen multitasking, but if it has 2GB of RAM then multitasking may come in iOS 9 and I also bought the Adobe Ink and Slide this summer which allows for pressure sensitive drawing with a small nib. However, Ink and Slide are not ideal on my Mini 2 so I haven't used it as much as I had hoped. It works well, I just can't get the movement I want on a smaller device.

What I don't understand is why 1GB is not enough for Safari tabs. Gamecube games were a total size of 1.5GB or so, thats a full game with 3D graphics with many hours of gameplay. You can't tell me 1GB of RAM is not enough for 5 webpages

Have you tried a different browser? Try iCab.

i am a iPad Air owner currently. If Apple doesn't upgrade the ram, no way will I purchase the iPad Air 2. Who agrees?

I don't agree and ordered my iPad Air 2 anyway. If the performance is hindered in any way I will simply return it and continue using the first iPad Air.

The iPad you currently own is less than a year old. It is by no stretch of the imagination out of date or obsolete. I know plenty of people still using 2nd or 3rd gen iPads. I don't see why you need to buy an Air 2 whether it has 2GB of RAM or not. The way you pose this ultimatum makes it sound like upgrading every year is obligatory. This is why Apple only has to offer token improvements. Try keeping you iPad for 2 or even 3 years. Then when you get a new one I guarantee you'll feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Tim Cook called. He's got some bad news for you...
