Well to be honest.. I think it looks really horrible. I am very sorry.. but to me it almost looks as if designed by some Soviet bureau back in the 1930es.. I guess it is all a matter of personal taste etc.. But if the "simplicity" is where everyone is going (first Google, then MS and now Apple), the next few years will be rather sad...

We have progressed so far in terms of ability to project imagery... To have OSs look like as if drawn by a kid (and one without particular artistic gift at that) is very very sad and, indeed, such a waste of resources and capabilities.

I have to quote this. Why build a high resolution screen then slap some unimpressive icons on top. I don't like the rainbow looking background most of all. I was out and about and waiting in line yesterday and talked to the lady in front of me briefly and she checked her phone for one reason or another and she had some oversized windows phone and I noticed a similar looking background screen. When I saw apples homepage and looked and saw a similar looking homepage background I immediately thought noooooooooooooooooooo...

There's never hate at the keynote, I've been to almost all of them personally. They are filled with Apple enthusiasts, developers, and the like. I'm shocked that such a comment would even be made.

But a standing ovation? If the people in that crowd thought iOS 7 was as bad as people here say it is nobody would've been standing up, there wouldn't have been huge applause. Quite honestly I'll take the opinion of developers over the knee jerk reactions of people here, most of whom have probably spent very little time if any using the beta. I'd love to know the percentage of those complaining that have actually spent any time using iOS 7. The talk show host Rush Limbaugh (who is an admitted Apple fanboy) has been testing it and said he loves it, loves all the festures. But agreed that some of the app icons need work.

so true, I felt that the applause was more authentic where in the past wwdc's, it felt more like "I have to clap because that's how we roll at wwdc".

I believe if all members of this forum was at that auditorium, we'd be standing up cheering with them. It's like an Ellen Degeneres taping. You just can't hate.

In a few years, the "minimalistic" trend will go to the next level and that would be a black and white OS. Thats right, no colors, no textures, just silky smooth grayscale stuff. Hipster lvl over 9000!

We hate colors
We hate textures

Nothing better than to have a retina display capable of producing millions of colors simultaneously, just to see 5 colors in ios7!

Steve Jobs must be rolling on his grave now....

macrumors is the premiere destination for apple haters and android fanboys. At least certain subforums are. I can honestly say I havent seen half the amount of criticism of Android on androidcentral.com (biggest android site) than the Apple hate here.

I guess it wouldnt be the internet without all the bashing.

But people should at least wait until its out and they use it before making their proclamations about it.

Ιn case you were referring to my post, just to make it clear, I simply prefer the look of the UI the way Jobs envisioned it, the way it is now.

Yes I like my icons to have textures, to have multiple colors and details. I love it that safari has N, S, E , W on its icon, i love those details that actually MAKE SENSE of a high resolution retina display.

I hate the fact that nowdays we consider "trend" and "cool" to have such beautiful screens and have icons that a 8 year old designed with crayons.

I am not saying I dont like all the new features, like the easy access of settings , the new notification center, the tilting of the UI that creates a scene of depth and 3d depending on how you look the device. I like all those things.

I just hate the fact that I have a retina display of 25203520810502321 colors that will actually look like a 10 color chinese mock-up toy, most of the time I will be using my iphone and ipad.

I do not comprehend (for real) why 10 colors is suddenly "awesome"...

Sure some of the apps now are not so good design-wise, for example the game center (casino style) is just awful. But that doesnt mean that everything is awful... just fix that.

In short I would prefer if I could have my old icons and appearance with the new features.

To me, looking at the home screen of the new UI, it looks like a few steps backwards... (quite a lot to be honest)

PS: And you dont have to hold the device in your hands to understand that you dont like the looks of the new icons. This is something that simply a photo can actually make you decide. Old icons had lots of tinny details that made sense of the technology the phone has (retina). Now? I believe my old Nokia 7650 display, wouldnt be that much different in displaying iOS7. (exaggeration I know, but you get the point).

Im using iOS 7 right now and its just as smooth and beautiful as ever. Now it has extra function. I never liked laggy android and never will. I would rather use a dumb phone than android.

Wow. Even got the avatar to boot! 11/10 on the fanboism scale.

Wow. Just wow.

I've just read (wasted 15 mins of my day) this thread from start to finish.
It's funny. It's funny reading how angry people are getting over a Beta release of their phone OS. I mean, really cross.
I'm thinking that a good percentage of the complainers here haven't experienced OS 7 first hand either.
Really, you should calm yourselves down. And think of it this way:
If Apple design a product that You don't particularly like the look of or features of, then JUST DON'T BUY ONE.
It's that easy.
Even your sense of entitlement is confused. People are getting really upset over whether or not they think Apple has let them down due to some imagined lack of innovation on their part. So go and better innovate a massively successful and universal line of products and services that would suit you better. Buy a product from another tech company that looks better to you.
It doesn't matter, and Apple probably won't be too upset that you've turned your attention to complaining about whichever 'useless piece of C**P you turn to next.

I, personally love iOS7. Never been so excited about a mobile OS...
I think Android and iOS are for different people and different markets. One is not better than the other. iOS 'was' lagging behind but now, I can't wait to download it!
What do you guys think? I'm thinking stock price rebound in a few days and to me, WWDC 2013 really put Apple back on the forefronts of innovation, like it used to be.
I think this quote says it all about the current situation...
"There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance!" - Steve Ballmer in 2008

I really wanna know what y'all think.

iOS 7 looks like the Baby Android and Windows made ;)

Wow that looks wonderful!

No, it looks very monotone, and something I would get bored of in one day.

But like you, I do find the icons rather bizarre and out of place. Like Safari, the Clock icon seems as though it was designed by someone who just didn't have a sense of proportion.

There's hardly any border, the circular portion is too large for the overall size, and the pastel colors on the others are just downright strange. What were they thinking? With all that talent, the end result is rather cheap looking.

Well, apparently they were thinking the icon looked good. And will not become boring, in the long run. You know, opinions are different. I see people here saying some icons looks gorgeous, yet I find them very boring. So... You have to trust the designers at Apple are not complete morons. There is a deeper design behind their choices, and somehow I doubt that the average Joe Blow on these forums get it on day one...

Been using it for a few days and I completely understand why there is such polarizing opinion about iOS7.

Granted this is beta 1 and since the visuals are a big part of this release theres a good chance a lot could change before final release and honestly, it needs to.

I like that we're getting away from skeuomorphism but this design doesnt seem to make the most of the iphones display and interface features.

A good interface to me should be responsive, predictive and look pleasing and easy on the eye.

As it stands, iOS7 makes it hard to differentiate between whats a button and whats just text. The lock screen tells us to slide to unlock but the arrow underneath for control centre suggests you should slide upwards. its all so confusing which is absolutely the opposite of what they are supposed to be heading towards.

The icons and folder designs are plain awful. they don't even seem to match each other. There was a post from someone on here yesterday that had much tidier icons within 24 hours.

Honestly, its hard to see what apple have been doing for the last year.

This release looks like its been thrown together over the last 2 or 3 months.

When the iPhone was released, we were years ahead of the competition with features, ideas and usability but now, at best, this has brought the iPhone back up alongside other devices. That depresses me :(

If iOS7 is released like this, I can't say for sure my next phone will be an iPhone.

I never thought I would say that.

Jellybean still lags... It lags on my Nexus 7, and my brother returned his S4 six days after he got it because of the lag. Lag is one of the many reasons why I won't be getting another Android device any time soon.

S4 with a bump to CleanRom 1.2 = blazing fast and no lag.

S4 with a bump to CleanRom 1.2 = blazing fast and no lag.

Don't forget a lot of people don't wish to Root their device and/or install a different ROM. Then we have the Android devices with other lauchers like Touchwiz and Sense. I notice lag on my Nexus 7, but that's only because I know what to look for. It doesn't bother me though.

I thought the iOS:7 unveiling was great. It's a subtle, yet massive change for iOS. A lot of new GUI changes going on. But they're done in a way that do not overwhelm a Joe Blog, average consumer user.

It's not Windows 7 > Windows 8. Maybe Windows XP > Windows 7. The general elements are there, but the appearance and some interactions are hugely different.

Just wait until the next iPhone comes out, I'm sure Apple will have more things to show us.

I don't get the hate either. What are we entitled to stuff now? They make something, we buy it or we don't buy it. And we got the redesign we wanted.

I'm definitely looking foward to iOS 7. I'll update my iPad 2 first and if I really like it i'll update my iPad 3 which is still running iOS 5.1.1

On a different background it really doesn't look that bad! Once you organize your apps they blend in a lot better too. I think some people might change there opinion once more screen shots are shown.

Its not anymore complicated then iOS 6 for your average user. I think everyone here is average or above. iOS 6 seems simple because we've been using it for so long. Swiping notifications from the lock screen, swiping them to the left to dismiss them faster at the top and touching the time to scroll to the top are things that people may not find intuitive but now that we know its not complicated.
