Twitter is one of the greatest things to happen to the internet, it is the future and people just don't understand it at the time. I don't use Facebook but I think that people don't like Twitter because they already have Facebook and don't want to sign up for another social network.

I understand that people dislike it, but i'm wondering why? What is the reasoning behind the comments?

Because as with Facebook, it is the thing of the masses (Social Media) some people want to show that they do not bow to the pressure of something liked by the majority. It is to show their uniqueness.

Me? Eat at McDonalds?
What? Shop at Walmart?
Listen to Lady GaGa?
No way would I use Windows ;)

Twitter is definitely not the future of the Internet. Twitter and Facebook will both be joining Myspace in the near future. Wait till the "next best thing" is available.

what? are people seriously this clueless?

DON'T PUT IN YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TWITTER.

You don't understand the point. In all the menu's you will see Twitter this, Twitter that... If you don't use Twitter, the feature is just useless and it just takes up space. I rather not see an extra box saying "Twitter" on everything that I do.

1. Diaspora?

2. With Mobile Me, if your not signed on then it won't appear anywhere else on the phone. If Apple does integrate Twitter into iOS 5 then I think the same rules will apply, if your not logged in then you won't notice a difference.

If it's done like that, then it would work out well. I use Twitter a lot, but not enough to have it integrated into everything that I do.

There is an iOS game theat a few times a days asks me if I want to log in to twitter. This was a paid game. I stopped playing it when they did that. I don't care if the game has twitter integration. Stupid that it annoys me about it a few times a day.

I've tweeted about 3 times in my life, and so I'm really hoping there's no Twitter integration. I'm not saying I hate Twitter, but I don't use it. What's wrong with leaving it as an app? I'd rather have better FB integration if they need to add a social networking feature, but I'd rather that they leave all of that out of the stock iOS.

I am all for it as long as it is hidden for the users who don't use it.... which I believe it will be.

I guess if you don't like twitter then you don't want it all over your iPhone. Personally I love the service and what it does, so I'm all for it.

Facebook for friends and family.
Twitter for friends and fans.

even without a youtube account you have the 'Send to Youtube' button.
(at least i have it stil, having signed out of my youtube account)

see, i'm more of a friends and family person.

i'd love a 'upload to facebook' button right from the camera roll
instead i got 'Send to YouTube' which i don't use and for photos i'd have to either upload via the facebook app or via emailing it to my facebook adress.

i'm not a big fan of too much social integration within the OS. But if they do it, i'd rather have Facebook than twitter.
While i do consider twitter a useful tool to 'subscribe' to people with interesting opinions, it's a really sucky tool for communicating with your friends.

anyways, then again, the Facebook app for iPhone is REALLY well made, so i suppose we don't really need any more integration there, apart from maybe better notification handling.

I don't use twitter, nor do I have an account.

If the big feature of iOS5 will be twitter, then that's definitely a FAIL. I know it won't be the only feature but seriously why integrate that into the OS.

.

you should!

i created one just to get 250 extra MB on my dropbox ;)

oh, btw, i just realized ... doesn't twitter and ping pretty much overlap to some extent?

might the integration of twitter be an attempt to 'reboot' ping? by maybe the iPod app tweeting what songs you ping-'liked', etc.?

Some of you haters aren't thinking. "Deep" integration can be good, and not just for tweeting a picture.

Look past your hate (for an inanimate service which has no effect on your life if you don't use it) and consider the following.....Today, many apps and games allow you to log in to post scores or share in app items. Today, every single one these apps makes you log in via Oauth separately. WHAT IF these apps could simply leverage your iOS Twitter login? This could be a huge time saver. Think about it.

As far as people hating Twitter, for me it has replaced RSS. Twitter is a great way to get news and also tech support from major companies. For example Xbox Support on Twitter is very helpful and will respond quickly to everyone.

I think it's funny how people call something "dumb and stupid" simply because they have not figured out how to extract value from the tool. It's all about who you follow. Understand this: You can be on Twitter and NEVER tweet a thing. You don't have to write anything. You know this, right? You can simply follow people, news agencies, or companies that interest you. That's it. Reminds me of people who complain about annoying kids on Xbox LIVE. Well, build your friends list and only play with people on your list, not in public matches! Same goes for Twitter.

So, I don't get all the hate either, other than hating on something many (quite obviously) don't understand.

I know all of that and it still doesn't have value to me. That's just me though. If other like it, good for them.

I generally don't use apps that require me to login to anything (other than email). I don't share scores or other app info whenever possible. So for me there's no additional value there either. (That game center bloat crap can go too as far as I'm concerned)

If other disagree, that's fine. The OP asked what people who don't want to see it were thinking and I'm just throwing my thoughts out there.

I'm excited by the idea but I can most definitely see how people would get annoyed. If Twitter was something I never used and didn't care about I wouldn't want to see it in my menu options and built in to the OS either.

I'm still thinking about a combination of Twitter & Ping. They're not the same, but I can see possible slight changes to both that would rival facebook and google/youtube for a social networking plan.

Not sure how much twitter would cost, but I think Apple has the $$ should they want to go in that direction.

oh, i do understand the point. i don't think you do.

looks like saving107 answered for me

we're talking about iOS5 here, not an app. i'm positive Apple won't force you multiples time per day to login with your twitter

great.. another arrogant post. you aren't the only one who uses iOS. to me, twitter integration would be awesome.

Oh my god.. If they serve hamburgers I'm going to walk right out of this restaurant. I don't care if they're popular. If I see them on the menu, I'm going to be pissed they wasted time on them instead of making meatloaf.

Ironically, the twits in this thread aren't the ones with twitter accounts.

The iPhone is not made for you personally. Social media integration is not up to scratch compared to other devices. This is a good thing and won't interrupt your precious lives by offering a menu option you're not interested in.

The OP asked why people don't want to see twitter in the OS. People answered why they personally don't want to see it. What's the big deal? Why the hate on people who don't care about social media? Everyone has an opinion about what they want in an OS (or at a restaurant).

The consensus among those that don't want it seems to be that people like the restaurant so much they don't want to see something else put on the menu if it changes their current dining experience. They'd rather see things they like added to the menu as opposed to something they don't like.

Of course the chef isn't our personal chef. But when asked what/why people don't like about the restaurant, they are responding. What's the big freaking deal? Why are some twitter supporters so sensitive about this?
