what? are people seriously this clueless?

DON'T PUT IN YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TWITTER.

Firstly, you need to calm down. Second, don't expect to get anything but negative connotation with a post like that.

The OP asked why people don't want to see twitter in the OS. People answered why they personally don't want to see it. What's the big deal? Why the hate on people who don't care about social media? Everyone has an opinion about what they want in an OS (or at a restaurant).

The consensus among those that don't want it seems to be that people like the restaurant so much they don't want to see something else put on the menu if it changes their current dining experience. They'd rather see things they like added to the menu as opposed to something they don't like.

Of course the chef isn't our personal chef. But when asked what/why people don't like about the restaurant, they are responding. What's the big freaking deal? Why are some twitter supporters so sensitive about this?

The negative comments against twitter are being made with a certain assumption that it would be implemented as this obtrusive feature that constantly bothers you.

There is also an air of contempt for the fact that that apparently iOS5 twitter integration would be the pinnacle feature of the firmware. That's just rubbish.

I don't use voice control, never see it.
I don't use MobileMe, never see options for it in my menu.
I dint use their genius or ping features, never even encountered them.

The theme here is that apple provides feature options but doesn't constantly throw them in your face because you may not want to use them.

A correct answer to the question would be "I hate twitter, but if I can opt out and never be bothered again unless I go to activate it, no skin off my back."

Instead you have people seemingly furious that the small time it would take for twitter integration is taking time away from programming bigger and better features. Again, just rubbish. Were talking about Apple here, not a couple programmers in their basement.

Maybe. I see it as more of people just hoping it is not obtrusive.

Agreed.

Excellent points.

I hope you are right. I think the article that started it was touting how deeply embedded it would be got some folks' panties (mine included) in a bunch. I hope it is something like you described where it can easily be ignored and will not interfere with my experience.

From TechCrunch.

We've heard from multiple sources that Twitter is likely to have a big-time partner for such a service: Apple. Specifically, we're hearing that Apple's new iOS 5 will come with an option to share images to Twitter baked into the OS. This would be similar to the way you can currently share videos on YouTube with one click in iOS. Obviously, a user would have to enable this feature by logging in with their Twitter credentials in iOS. There would then be a "Send to Twitter" option for pictures stored on your device.

All the people I know uses facebook, twitter is useless to me and i assume many other people too, it would be a waste of time having it incorporated in to iOS.
Concur. I know NO one that uses twitter (only celebrities hawking crap - including themselves), but *every* one I know uses FB. Just saying...

The reason to put something in the OS is to make it a common resource to all apps. Voice control is something that could have been leveraged this was but really wasn't, although there are rumors of more voice control to come later. I don't use Twitter so I don't know if this would really be a useful thing or not. If it's just sharing a picture to Twitter, I'm sure you can do that with an app.

I don't use MobileMe, Genius, or Ping. If MobileMe becomes iCloud as expected and any app can store to iCloud, then it is a reasonable OS item.

Of course they may have to put more and more things into the OS as they become popular because they chose not to expose a file system. Just one of a million trade-offs made whenever you design a system.

As to the comment about it not taking time away from other development because it's Apple and not a couple of programmers in the basement... well.. it took then gar too long to do copy and paste (for instance), and most of their system upgrades have been kind of let down.

I understand that people dislike it, but i'm wondering why? What is the reasoning behind the comments?

Because the prevalence of the Share This and Share That buttons that may accidentally be clicked. For example, one moment I'm taking a picture of my Weiner and the next I'm twitting it to some girl in Seattle.

I live and breathe Twitter, and I love my iPhone 4. This is one of the greatest things Apple could have done, in my eyes at least.

I use Twitter a lot but I'm not really much of a fan to integrate social networks into the iOS. I've seen a lot of Android devices like this and I just think it's horribly done. I guess I'll wait until Monday to see how Apple decides to include it before I make my judgement.

The keyword there was Android. I'm sure Apple will integrate social networking in a classy and revolutionary way.

The hate is because Twitter is going to be considered bloatware. Like Windows has on there stuff. If twitter is on there, the beginning of bloatware on apple devices, machines will have forever hate twitter and the celebrities who made it popular.

Its a shame that people like you are making twitter popular when it is just a dumb website with no real purpose.

In my opinion, I think it's a terrible idea. Twitter and Facebook are fads. ZOMG I SAID IT!!! Yes, one day they will go away just like Myspace, and if either or both get integrated into the OS, it will just seem stupid to have them hanging around while they're gone or almost gone. Let it be an app and leave it that way that way when the trend is over, people will forget about it. Just think years down the road scrolling through your settings and you see facebook or twitter when no one even uses them anymore.

Twitter is garbage. The only reason Apple's hopping on the twitter boat us because they got snubbed by Facebook and Ping has been a failure. Twitter is basically sloppy seconds.

That's in your opinion which holds absolutely no weight at all. Move along.

My opinion has no weight?

Using your logic, your opinion has no weight or value what so ever.

Isn't this "deep integration" just for picture sharing via Twitter's recently-announced image hosting services (which in turn is provided by PhotoBucket)?? I think the panty-bunching is being blown way out of proportion but only time will tell -- less than 48 hours that is. ;)

My opinion of what? I never gave you my opinion. I said your opinion has no weight. Twitter is worth around ten billion dollars. If you really think Twitter is dumb (again YOUR opinion) I'm sure Evan Williams would consider otherwise, as he lays on a beach soaking in the sun.

Is that real?

Its rumored to have been an early internal build of iOS 4 before it was released to developers, Apple was rumored to have integrated Facebook into the OS but the deal seemed to have fallen through which is why Apple is deciding to use Twitter instead,

Come Monday I don't think Twitter will be our only option, their were reports earlier this year that FourSquare's Co-Founder Dennis Crowley has checked in at Apple HQ a few times for an unknown reason, what if come Monday we end up getting both options for Social Networking to replace Facebook? Twitter for communicating and foursquare to check in.

Your opinion is that "my opinion has no weight"

Anything that you think with your input is an opinion.

Why don't you refresh your mind with out all this twitter craze getting to you and return some coherent responses.

Evan Williams - stop making up names

I have no idea. Personally I think this is a refreshing change from everyone else including Facebook integration. Plus I use Twitter more than Facebook, so for me this is a positive thing. People need to be less uptight about things and wait until the OS has been released before passing judgement on it.

I prefer Facebook integration since in my opinion unless your famous your gonna get no where with twitter. (or you have hundreds of friends that use it)

You should Google Evan Williams, then return and edit your post. As right now, you look extremely foolish.
