Thanks for the feedback guys. I understand now that a lot of it is personal preference. I highly doubt Twitter will die off as a fad, just like how people said YouTube was a fad. But i do recommend people give Twitter a try, it's not only about talking to celebrities, it all depends on who you're following.

Anyway, i guess we'll find out in about 20hours

People that hate on Twitter don't fully understand how to use it to it's maximum potential. It's basically a custom newsfeed for you, much like your RSS feeds.

I love twitter and am really looking forward to this supposed 'deep integration' in iOS 5! Though I do think that there should be some way of turning it 'off' for those people who don't use or like twitter :)

Are the "feeds" really worth much though?

Not to be a jackass, but can you recommend a couple of news tweets I should follow? All of this passion about it has me taking another look. Seems like a tough balance between information overload and shallow info.

It depends on what you want. I follow different hockey reporters, bands, etc. It's all whatever is relevant to your interests.

I understand how to use it, I just don't like it. I'd rather go to a website and read articles than snippets and headlines.

Twitter is not for everyone. Having said that...

HOW MUCH PROCESSING POWER CAN A COUPLE EXTRA MENU OPTIONS ON 2011 HARDWARE/SOFTWARE POSSIBLY TAKE??? Does anyone honestly think it would ever affect anyone? Ever? --like even one perceivable difference in speed ever? even once?

The reason some people express annoyance (mental anxiety) is because its a matter of neutral elegance. All those not on twitter read "deep integration" as crossing their boundary into their territory of neutrality, practicality, and optional hyper-simplicity of iOS. It almost comes off as inappropriate and in bad taste to implement something that they mistakenly/too simply perceive as pointless social galavanting that seemingly belongs in the realm of optional apps.

But its not just a bunch of malarkey. Here is why it is OK ;)

Twitter, for news and culture, is just as essential as YouTube is for visual information and Twitter is the future due to its genius efficiency of raw information and is way "bigger" than Facebook, (which is now boring and serves more as a public online identity card with various levels of privacy) because Facebook is about Myspace-like social expression such as lifestyle, and pictures, and girls using real-life as simply an opportunity for a photo-op for their virtual identity on Fakelife where social upkeep has been reduced to a "news feed."

So while Facebook is about pictures, Twitter is about human thought.

Profound right?

Twitter is about news and human expression. Its about the raw building block of all art which is: everyone wants someone to hear what they have to say. Everyone. Whether they are in pain/denial/insecurity and rejecting/given up the urge to want to be heard or not. Since it is about artists then, it is very appropriate and in tune with the spirit of Apple :).

Since it taps into such a core aspect of human need, Twitter will not only not go away, but will actually change the way people think and even learn, making everything more efficient and giving voice to the type of thoughts and knowledge and expression that would otherwise never be given a voice in any other less simple, less-efficient, or less-masterfully crafted system of content creation vs. consumption. The format is an essential aspect of continued participation of both creators and consumers. Its very handy and can be creatively used in many ways for many purposes because of its raw simplicity.

Yes celebrities have way more one-way relationships of human expression but that is not the point of Twitter. If you only have one other person; a friend, stranger, whatever, who hears what you have to say, then that is enough.

You know when you randomly have those awesome thoughts and you think, wow I should write that down and remember that later so I can say it to my friends? Well its like that. Now you just pull out your iPhone, and post it on twitter and everyone who follows you, can share your thought instantly.

The difference between Twitter and others is its simplicity, much like Apple, it sets it apart and makes people addicted to it and actually want to use it because of the deceptively simple (yet deep) principles of its design.

So in fact, Twitter and iOS are perfect for each other. Twitter is a revolutionary avenue of expression and I am curious to see how they "synergize" and evolve the art-form in the future.

follow me on twitter I guess :) @friendlybuddie http://www.twitter.com/friendlybuddie

i don't use twitter much for world news, but i do follow a few professional players who have said things before the media has got to it. whether it be a trade, a signing, and whatnot.

what are you interested in? if you want news:

http://twitter.com/#!/who_to_follow/search/news

or just search what type of people you want to follow. pretty much every company/news outlet is on twitter, and they post constantly. i doubt this 'fad' is gonna die anytime soon ;)

I don't care about following individuals or hearing about what they are doing.

As far a news goes, I just can't see how 140 characters is going to be something that I'm going to value. I'd rather just browse a website to check the news.

I'm looking into it. As passionate as people are about the thing, I'll take a second look. There has to be something more to it other than finding out what OchoCinco did today. Otherwise I will never understand it's popularity.

Such as Shaq announcing his retirement via Twitter.

The same websites you're checking for news are tweeting the news, sometimes before it even hits their websites. I use to be a Twitter junkie to the max, but now it helps me pass time at work or when I'm bored. Rather spend the time with family or doing something productive.

I don't care about knowing things first.* I'd rather know details and the full story. That's why I'm hesitant. I'll give it another go though.

* That's the problem with the media these days, but that's another thread on another discussion forum.

They provide links to the full story as well. I've read plenty of full stories and even videos via the links on Twitter.

You don't understand the point. In all the menu's you will see Twitter this, Twitter that... If you don't use Twitter, the feature is just useless and it just takes up space. I rather not see an extra box saying "Twitter" on everything that I do.

Grow some balls man

Ok but it doesn't uselessly take up space, it makes a lot of sense in the big picture to have it integrated, if not for you but for the masses.

Does YouTube integration make you mad too? Like when you take a video, and you click the arrowbox and it says send to email, YouTube.... And you only wanted to send to email, but YouTube was there, does that make you mad?

If you get mad at that then I can't help you, but if you are just getting mad because of the principle of twitter, I believe it's lack of understanding and if you were to explore it more, you may begin to understand why others are addicted to it, if not becoming addicted yourself.

Again, it's not just a bunch of malarkey.

And grow some balls for what? Standing up against human social interaction??
