Wish it was as simple as running that counterfeit marker across the bill.
I came across 4 fake 20's this week that pass the marker test but are 100% fake.

The pen I have also has a light you shine on it that will make the hologram and stripe show up. I guess I should have been more clear. Of course you can also look at it through the light.

I dont get it. You post on craigslist something for sale, and you are surprised when a potential buyer appear?

I think he was surprised the buyer is coming at him with a full retail offer. It's rather common to post an ad asking for more than you expect to get, knowing full well potential buyers will likely try and haggle you down.

Exactly it seems just to good to be true.

My guess is that this individual prefers to haggle in person. Or is a criminal. I'd offer to meet at a bank or a police station. ;)

When something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Hey, be glad someone wants it bad enough to pay that much. Can't say it sounds legit, but you never know. Just meet up at a bank or in an Apple store or something.

CL is a joke in my area. Listed my iPhone 6 yesterday and I've received texts from 4 scammers out of NYC and Maryland. I got one local offer for $350 (I listed it at $650). And tonight I got a phone call from a local kid (he told me he was 15) that offered to pay me $20-$30 a week, and asked if I could hold the phone for him until he paid it off.

Needless to say, I deleted my listing tonight lol.

Yeah I get worried when people are so eager some times. I had instances where they say they really want to buy, only to have you drive out somewhere far for no reason. Now if they said they were going to pay full price and come to you I would be all over it.

Perhaps meet at a branch of your bank, and have a teller check the money before completing the transaction?

Will banks allow that to happen on their premises? Not to mention you're at a bank; probably more secure than a McDonald's.

I worked at a bank for years. They don't just allow people to walk off the street and talk to a teller to check for authenticity of bills. They have to be doing a transaction with the customer. And even then, they don't deal with cash involving side transactions between their customer and another person when has nothing to do with bank business. There's a liability clause involved.

I think it should be your banks business to check if bills are real, especially if when they are not they confiscate these bills and give you piece of crap paper to file with your taxes. Yes I've been there done that. A few years back I bought a phone on Craigslist and one of the $50s was fake. They took it and said it was nothing I could do. Funny thing is a couple of months later I was buying another phone and the seller ended up being the same guy that gave me the first fake bill.

Sooo... You get in line and deposit the bills to make sure the bank will take them before you give the buyer the merchandise. An honest buyer should be fine with this. Especially if the bank is not crowded.

Possibly he doesn't have a card to buy from apple online? Maybe he doesn't want the phone traced back to him through payment in a store? Who knows, people bid up stuff on ebay past the value regularly.

I think it odd that you list a phone at a price then balk. Some people are like that, they would rather buy from an individual than a store. Strange but true.

Meet him at a bank, tell him you want to watch him buy a cashiers check and take the cashiers check. You know it's good and the bank accepts the cash.

You're not even visualizing the situation. Who said the buyer would have a problem with this? Did you truly read my post? Think about two people walking up to a teller and saying, "I want to sell this xxxproduct to this person but I'm not sure his bills are authentic. Could you check them? You may be able to get a manager to possibly approve that but that's a red flag and it can turn out to be more than just checking bills. I'm not even sure why I'm having to explain this. I worked at a bank for years.

I do believe I stated that if a transaction was happening between the customer and the bank they would check the bills.

So why couldn't you just go to the teller and ask if these bills are valid I don't understand why you would even go into all of the details.
