So why couldn't you just go to the teller and ask if these bills are valid I don't understand why you would even go into all of the details.

Me either.

I'd just deposit them before handing over the phone. If the bank rejects them, you have the counterfeiter right there.

----------

i think we're getting ahead of the situation here. did the OP ever go with the transaction or not ? hello OP ...

Perhaps he was mugged at Mickey D's.

OP! Where are youuuuu???

Perhaps the OP was actually the one offering to buy and wanted to get a feel for how normal people would think. You know like a big double bluff.

Sooo... You get in line and deposit the bills to make sure the bank will take them before you give the buyer the merchandise. An honest buyer should be fine with this. Especially if the bank is not crowded.

I'm an honest buyer and would not be ok with that. I want to pay and leave. Besides no way am handing my money to a stranger and not receiving my item immediately.

Really. But you are there together with the buyer. Having a nice chat, barely takes any longer, the seller has piece of mind and you can use the time to check that the phone actually works and is not some fake.

I really fail to see the issue when someone wants to check the money is real. I did exactly hat when I had a cash buyer for the car of my brother in law. The chap wanted to give me 45K in cash, I said fine lets do it at the bank. Heck the bank had more issue with me depositing that amount of cash in an account that didn't belong to me and that was in Australia :) whilst they counted and verified the cash we did the paper work.

I don't get some people, if it's genuine what's the big deal.

That's fair. But I've done it before. And I'm betting most people would be ok with it too. There is video of you standing near the guy with the money being deposited. The chance of him running after depositing the cash that he logged into at an ATM to do is rather slim. And even if he did try and bail, you can make a pretty decent case.

Just like you have your choice not to buy from someone like that, they have a choice not to sell to you. The phone will get sold. iPhones have a tendency of being an easy sale, assuming the seller isn't asking unreasonable prices.

When I sell on Craigslist I do check if the money is real. I do not need a bank for that. I have a counterfeit pen and also use my eyes to check the money.

Some people just have more money than sense. I just sold on Sunday my iPhone 5S for $600.

The problem here is that the dregs of society have found their way onto Craigslist and discovered that it's easy to rip off honest people.

EVERY TIME I've tried to sell something on Craigslist I've ended up with shady people calling. In fact, out of five or six attempted sales on Craigslist, I only successfully sold one item. I remember the first time I tried to sell something on Craigslist, expecting people to call in a friendly manner to discuss the item and where to meet.

No, it's always shady, it's always some guy that sounds like he's hyped up on something being evasive rather than friendly and communicative.

Screw Craigslist, these days I just try to sell stuff through my circle of friends, or even on here.

Then, I'd find another buyer. There are plenty that would not have an issue with it.

That said, I sold one to a guy off CL not too long ago. Met at an ATT store. Never checked his money. To be fair, I knew his name and he would be very easy to track down, given his status in the community. ;)

Haha epic responses. Thanks for the replies. Yea I'm still alive and no I didn't get mugged. No no blowie, haha would be wild. But I basically just ignored the dude. I ended up selling my 5s on eBay instead so that was good.

Always listed my stuff on Craigslist and swappa , but when I sold a 64GB 6+ NIB I got someone who paid full asking on Craigslist.

Emailed me from his work address, legit business. Nice guy, said he needed one tonight because his girlfriend is coming from overseas and he wanted to surprise her. This was when the 6+ was a rare commodity though.

Oh man where has the romance gone. Some flowers, champagne, but of Barry White  and a whole lot of loving when the girlfriend comes from abroad. Versus here is a phone luv, enjoy Facebook and I'm off to the pub. :)

In terms of meeting people on craigslist, I would either mandate that you meet at a bank, or at a police station. There are hundreds of strange people in the world, you never know who you are dealing with.

I've sold cameras and lenses on cl at a McDonald's before. When you talk to someone and it seems shady you can feel it

Am I missing something here? I listed my plus for 1100 on local craigslist and this guy is adamant to buy it from me. Is it weird that he wants to buy it so bad when you can personally get one in the store now for the same price. He said he doesn't drive and wants to meet up at McDonald's. Is there something I should be aware of or missing?

Cash only.

Well how much iphones are going overseas ? Maybe he is selling phones overseas ? Just checkout mcdonald location they have cameras.

Then he could just walk into an Apple Store and buy one.
There is a limit on number of phones sold. For example iphone 6 64gb unlocked are 1500$ mexico i cant imagine how much are those selling in china now some guy was stopped when he was trying to smuggle iphones 6 and 5s wrapped around his body. Iphones in russia probably are being sold for tons of money.

He could just call come back later and buy more.
